3497.0. "Error -> c = 0977 and reply command?" by GIDDAY::REID (David Reid,CSC,Sydney DTN 730-7233) Wed Apr 09 1997 00:17

Greetings,

A Customer had asked for us to analyse his DS900 and DS700 crashes which were
occurring around 5:00am each morning. Both are running NAS V1.5

Show server status showing an error of c = 0977

Past notes suggested that this error was sometimes associated with a REPLY/ALL
in version 1.3 but had been fixt in V1.5.

Asked Customer to check for this command in backup procedure (which was runs
each morning at this time) - not found BUT a REPLY/BELL was found and since
removing this command servers have not crashed!!!

Coincidence or bad luck???

Any thoughts..

Thanks and regards,

A quick check of the revisions history shows that the correction your asking
about was indeed included in the SSB version of V1.5. I setup a test of the
REPLY/ALL/BELL command using 9 LTA devices targeted to 3 ports on a DECserver
running V2.0 and it didn't crash. The test consisted of a DCL file containing
a constant loop of the command. It ran for 20 minutes before I stoped it.

Could you update the cusotmer to V2.0? He'll need at least 4 meg of memory.
The images are available on NPSS::PUBLIC$DSK:[INTERCHANGE.DECSERVERS.DNAS] as
  WWENG2_BL10D.SYS and MNENG2_BL10D.SYS.

If the problem persist please post a description of the local LAT services
available on one of the servers along with a copy of the customer's DCL file.
