3483.0. "no modem hang up on ds500 w/autoconnect question" by CSC32::L_MORSE () Wed Mar 26 1997 19:27

    	A customer just upgraded to V2.2H on his DS500 to deal with a
    	memory issue that caused them to reboot the ds500's often. Since
    	then they now notice a modem hangup issue.

    	If AUTOCONNECT is enabled on a DEDICATED service modem port, when
    	the user logs out of VMS, the modem does *NOT* drop the phone line
    	on a DS500 (cxy08) -- it *DOES* if we connect to a DS200/MC.

    	They have to leave AUTOCONNECT turned off on these ports and this
    	causes login script conflicts because they need a <CR> if they hit
    	a DS500 but don't need it if they hit a DS200/MC. To make matters
    	worse, when AUTOCONNECT was on and the dialin user didn't take
    	deliberate steps to hangup, they would hold the phone line for hours
    	(in spite of INACTIVITY LOGOUT) until they powered off their PC.
    	This cost us a lot of $$$ on nation-wide 800 service!

    	The port will remain in local state.

    	Why would the ds200 act differently than the ds500 ?
    	The customer is mailing the port characteristics to me.

> Why would the ds200 act differently than the ds500 ?

Because they run two entirely different code bases. The DS500 uses a PDP-11
processor while the DS200 uses a Motorola 68xxx processor.

I think both the DS200 and the DS500 have long since been retired.

3483.2ded service and autoconnect don't work togetherCSC32::D_SHAVEYThu Mar 27 1997 18:109

    Larry,

    	Dedicated service works different on the DS500. With dedicated
    service you can't have autoconnect. There is a stars article on this.
    It causes phantom logins to the system with dedicated service.
