886.0. "Show Line speed" by HGOM19::MARKWU () Mon May 05 1997 02:46

    Dear colleagues:

I encounter a challenge from my custom.
    	The problem is like this:
Our RouteAbout's port Line-speed always show UNKNOWN,
And Cisco's router can show the line speed.
But I remember cisco's calculate is very rough.

How can I tell custom about these problem ?
        Thanks

    Best/regards
    Mark

    	Mark,

I'll let someone else respond for the RouteAbout portion... But fwiw,
Cisco only shows the speed that has been set via management for the
WAN port (at least on the router models and IOS versions that I'm
familiar with). So, if you set a port running 56K to 1.544Mb, it will
show as running at 1.544 Mb, regardless of actual clock speed; there is
no auto-sense of speed-to-display function (again, in the
versions/models that I'm familiar with- if anyone has information the
11.x on the 7xxx behaves differently, I want to know about it...)

As far as the RA is concerned we recently fixed some code to do the same
thing, ie. you could manually set the line speed. It was released as part
of a V2.0 fix kit (v2.0.3?).

Kevin, you in here?.

Yes, this was just added in V2.0.3 I believe...and it reports the
manually set speed, not a guesstimate.
