880.0. "DRS V2.0 DECnet routing problem" by FIRSC1::CASINI () Tue Apr 29 1997 12:49

	Hi all,
I have a DECnet IV routing problem with the following configuration:

	+-----------------------------------------------------+
		| |
	     ------- ------- NIS500
    Switch1 | | | | L2 Router
DECnet 38.34| | | | V3.1.3
	     ------- ------- DECnet 38.19
	       ||FDDI                   |
	       ||                       |
	     ------- \\DDCMP
    Switch2 | | |
DECnet 38.35| | |
	     ------- ------- VAX with DMB32
                | | | L2 Router
	        | | | DECnet 51.4
                | -------
                |
                |
        +-------------------+
                     |
                  -------
                 | | Host Endnode
                 | | DECnet 38.10
                  -------

	The Switch1 e switch2 are two DECswitch 900EF with DRS V2.0-2.

	Problem:

If the Switch1 e Switch2 are configured as DECnet L1 routers,
the endnode 38.10 is not able to set host to the VAX (L2 router)
with DECnet address 51.4. This configuration worked fine with
the previous version of DRS V1.0.

If the Switch1 e Switch2 are configured as DECnet L2 routers
	all work fine.

	Notes:

I have seen the same problem with AW90 EW V2.0-2 and V2.0-3 where
the L2 router was a DEMSA. I mean that if you have a DECnet L2
router and one AW90 EW L1 router in the same DECnet area of L2,
the DECnet nodes connected in the ethernet of the AW90 are not
able to contact DECnet nodes on different areas behind the L2
router. The problem is worked around by setting the AW90 as
DECnet L2 router. With DRS V1.1-5 all worked fine instead.

Considering the two cases, it seems that the problem was introduced
	with DRS V2.0 ?

Anyone have seen the same behaviour ?

	Many thanks for your attention.
	Regard Fabio

I use this kind of configuration during the migration

                 -------
            	   AW90

                    | LAN 1
    +-----------------------------------------------------+
                    | |

                 RL1/RVC RL1/LSP
                 only RL2/LSP
    		 ------- -------

                  X.25 DLM X.25 DA

                 ------- -------
                 VAX area1 AW90 area n
                 RL1/RVC RL1/LSP
    		 only RL2/LSP
                 ------- -------
                    | |

    LAN 2 LAN N

    I use AW90 V2.03 + patch X25 DA , It works for IV E/N and OSI E/S
    between LAN 1 and LAN N .

it doesn't work when i used a Router IV RL1.

    NCP> show kn area
        area 1 ( unreachable )

IT seems AW90 doesn't announce correctly the area reachability to other
old L1 router IV (DEMSA or VAX).

    Thanks
    Didier

Hi Fabio,

I have verified that this is indeed a bug which was introduced at V2.0.
Can you please raise an IPMT case as per procedure.

thanks,
Kevin.
