| Jean-Yves,
Can you please give a little more details about this problem? We in
system test have tested this many times. With version V1.5 of the
VNswitch we are able to set the SNMP community string from either
the console menu, or through CLI (from the SNMP config> promt). You
might be using ilegal characters or might be doing something wrong.
Otherwise, you should not have any problem setting the community string.
Thanks,
Eladio Cortes

| Jean-Yves,
Yes, I verified that what you say is true, you will get an error message
as long as you are trying to enter a new community string which is exactly
the same as the current one. However, I see this more as a feature than as
a bug. Changing the community string to exactly the same thing does not
accomplish anything since with or without an error message, you will leave
the string unchanged. On the other hand, suppose that you have a long
community string, and want to change it to exactly the same string except
for one or two characters. If you make a mistake and involuntarily enter
the same string, the system will give an error message. If the system had
taken it, you will incorrectly think that it has been changed to a new
string. Since you receive the error message you will need to re-enter it.
There is, however, one important caveat here. The MAM, as well as other
non-VNswitch modules, will not give you any error message when you try to
enter an identical string. Thus, there is a discrepancy here. I consider
this a very low priority issue, but I will rise the issue with the MAM
and module developers.
Thanks,
Eladio,
