819.0. "90EI, ISDN one way comm. trouble" by NETRIX::"ellen.syberg@cpc348.dmo.dec.com" (Ellen Syberg) Wed Mar 26 1997 13:55

Two RouteAbout EI are communicating correctly one way but
not the other.

       		Denmark 90EI 129.2.1.2
                      --------+--------------------

                              /
                              | 192.168.1.50
                      --------+-----------------
                France 90EI 129.3.1.1

From Denmark to France everything works fine - you are able to ping
telnet etc. If you have the line already opened from Denmark everything
works fine from France as well.
But if you initiate the line from France you are unable to get through
with anything (ping telnet etc.)

Below is an event log doing a telnet from France attached. The cache log
is from the Danish site where ISDN error, ISDN info, PPP info are enabled.
At the bottom are the configs from France and Denmark attached.

Any help or suggestion of what could be wrong is appreciated.
Especially translating the event log cause codes.

I have read note 807 but its not complete.

I suspect that it may be because Denmark has two circuits configured as
'ANY_INBOUND'...This doesn't work, as only one circuit can be
configured any_inbound. You may be seeing France connecting to the
'other' circuit (in fact your trace information does appear to show two
inbound calls happening at once, with one connecting to the second
    circuit).

I would enable the 'Local ID' protocol and use that to match incoming
callers to dial circuits, assuming that Calling Line ID is unavailable
    (it appears to be).

    The 'NLS Display Information' trace message is different from note 807;
the code isn't really important in this case -- the blank string is the
text of a printable message that could be displayed on a LCD screen,
etc. In this case there is no message to be displayed. 0x4 is
probably calling party number; 0x6 called party number. Apparently the
    switch isn't providing that information.

If you still have problems, collect a trace with timestamps ('set time
uptime') and with GW events enabled ('disp sub GW all') except for
    GW.043 ('nodisp event gw.043').

Tim,
Your suspesion (suspect ?) was right.
I added ISDN# France_IN and sat the inbound destination name to
France_IN and after upgrading the French router from ver 1.1 to
ver 2.0 it worked. The Danish router was already ver 2.0

But I would like to ask you, what do you mean by

>I would enable the 'Local ID' protocol and use that to match incoming
>callers to dial circuits, assuming that Calling Line ID is unavailable
>(it appears to be).

Local ID and Calling Line ID ?

[Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

Calling Line ID (sometimes called 'Caller ID') is a service provided by
the network to identify incoming callers. Local ID is a proprietary
protocol used in the RouteAbouts to replace/supplement Calling Line ID.
In some areas Calling Line ID (CLID) is not available, or only
available at extra cost. In many cases it may not be available on an
incoming call due to carriage over a intervening link which did not
support CLID. For those reasons we have Local ID.

In both cases, the incoming caller's phone number is used to match up
the call with a dial circuit.
