799.0. "RFC 951/1048 and bootp relay" by MDR01::VENTURA (MCS Madrid) Thu Mar 13 1997 09:38

	Hello,
	We want configure a remote boot of a LPS17 trought Routeabout Acess EW
from a Digital Unix system.
	I have read that Routeabout conforms to RFC 951 and, in the other hand,
the Digital Unix system (V3.2) conforms to RFC 1048.

	May I have problems because of the differents RFC's?
	Anybody has configured something similar before?

	Thanks for any answer.

799.1LPS17 need RFC1048MDR01::VENTURAMCS MadridFri Mar 14 1997 07:3214

    	More information:
    	 LPS17 and Digital Unix are in different subnets and, between
    them there is a DECnis at local site and the Routeabout at remote
    site.
    	The LPS17 need a load of RFC1048 system to receive subnet mask and
    gateway information.

    	I think that is not possible to boot the LPS17 trough the
    Routeabout because it complains RFC951 that it's older than RFC1048.

    	Anybody could confirm this?
    	Regards

799.2it should work - see earlier topics that describe how its brokenMARVIN::RIGBYNo such thing as an alpha betaFri Mar 14 1997 08:155
I don't think that its specifically that the RFC supported is too old, there
have been other notes in this conference recently indicating that BOOTP relay
has been broken - especially if DHCP is used over it.

It should work - raise an IPMT case to get it fixed.

    No please don't raise (another) case, we have enough already!

    Plus I believe the fix is now available. I don't know the status of
    the IPMT cases but by early April a fix kit for the RouteAbouts &
    DECswitches will be out and will incorporate the fix.

    On the other hand, maybe filing an IPMT is the best way to ensure you
    get the fixed kit ASAP.

    The fix is now available from support channels.

799.5Available in easynet?MDR01::VENTURAMCS MadridMon Mar 17 1997 06:546
    	Thanks to all,
    	I'll look for the fix, but is it available for copy somewhere
    in easynet?

    Not right now. When the next maintenance release comes out (early
    April) it will be. If you need a fix before that you'll have to
    contact the official support channels.
