769.0. "Disable RR on idle ISDN links /Accounting question" by TAGEIN::AURAND () Fri Feb 21 1997 09:47

Hi,

    a customer has two questions about the ISDN capabilities of the
    RouteAbout EI (V2.0-0)

1. Is it possible to disable sending RR messages on the LAPD link if there is
   no active connection ? This week a technician from the german Telekom was at
   the customer site and he told him, that the Router shouldn't send any RR
   on a idle link because this isn't standard compliant and their switch
   has to do some additional processing (which should not be done from
    their point of view).

2. The Telekom has enabled accounting for his ISDN connection but the
   accounting utility of the RouteAbout always shows a charge of 0.0.
   Are there any known problems with accounting ? The customer will
   check, if the incoming ISDN numbers are correct because the Telekom
   sometimes use a trailing 0 and sometimes not.

    It is not possible to disable sending RR messages in the current
    product. This is the first I have heard of not sending RRs on an idle
    link, but I will check into this to see if it might be possible mode of
    operation.

    Accounting should work if the PTT has enabled it correctly. Perhaps it
    is a numbering problem? Does the accounting display on the running
    router show charges accumulating to 'all other numbers'? Or just
    no usage at all?

769.2No accounting information at allTAGEIN::AURANDFri Feb 21 1997 12:489
    Hi Tim,

    the accounting shows no charge for all numbers including 'All others:'.
    The Telekom guy had done a trace on the ISDN line and he told the
    customer, that they are sending accounting information.

    	Best regards

    According to my contacts, there is no way to disabling sending of the
    RR on an active LAPD link. This is as specified in Q.921. If the
    switch wishes to deactivate the link (ie, shutdown LAPD) it has that
    option -- but we do not initiate deactivation in the router.
