9916.0. "maximum number of login sessions futures" by NNTPD::"romani@stl.dec.com" (Roberto J Romani) Thu May 22 1997 06:10

Hello All,

From the v4.0c SPD ther is the following paragraph....

 Number of Logins

The following maximum number of logins are supported:

 RLOGIN: 2,048*

 Telnet: 2,048*

 LAT: 4,000*

Note: *These numbers can vary depending on hardware configurations and
 user workloads.

A VAR has requested to know if the telnet and/or rlogin figures will be
increased
in subsequent releases of DU.The VAR needs this information because they are
in a
tender process against SUN and SUN has just announced that there latest
version
of the operating system have gone above the maxmimum telnet session > 2048

Does the above Note just mean that we have not tested above 2048,because I
thought the limit was 3162 for BSD style ptys and 8192 for STREAM ptys.

regards

The limits in the SPD are the tested and supported limits, which
engineering will accept problem reports on. Many times you can
exceed those limits and the system still runs fine, however, if
there are problems getting the 4001st user logged in, engineering
won't necessarily be able to address it with a patch. We would
like to hear about it, so we can fix it for a future release, but
your customer won't be entitled to a formal patch. Likewise if
the system crashes when user number 16384 logs in, we'd like to
know so we can fix it, but won't be able to supply a patch.

9916.2Maximum LAT Virtula Circuits?CSC32::D_MATTHIESThu May 22 1997 20:0118
    Hi All,
I see where 4.0c sets the maximum LAT devices to 4000. NOTE 5301,
    in this conference said 5000
"The short answer is that there os a compile-time constant which
determines the maximum number of sessions that the driver will
support. This includeds BSD, SVR4. The value is currently at 5000.
5000-620 (For BSD) -1 (For the open /dev/streams/lat) -1 (for the
        adapter in use) = 4378."
    	Why the reduction?
Along these same lines what is the maximum number of Virtual
Circuits supported. I seem to remember an artifical limit of 255 that
was bumped to 1024. What does the Meridiam implimentation support.
