9129.0. "Doconfig and s3trio error under 3.2G" by NETRIX::"emilio.sorrentino@itawww.mln.dec.com" (sorrentino@trn.mts.dec.com) Wed Mar 12 1997 07:20

	Customer with AlphaServer 1000 5/300 with 3.2G DigitalUnix have a
    problem running "doconfig" after remove all *VOX* subsets from 3.2G.

	Problem was about "pty_data.c" like in note 2420.
	So I' ve removed "options SL" , "options RPTY" but didn't
	fix problem; it was changed !!.

	Doconfig now stops with an other error, about s3trio.

	Also tryed to start with genvmunix , but nothing change...

	Any suggestion are apreciated ,

				Thanks in advance,
					Emilio

	Follows same informations :

	AlphaServer 1000 5/300 DigitalUnix 3.2G
	SRM Console V. 4.6 - 221
	Arc Console 5.23

	Video PCI Card ATI Technologies

After reboot genvmunix and performed sizer -n ,then moved /tmp/newsysname in
/sys/conf/newsysname:

9129.1tryed an entry for s3trio ; new error !!NETRIX::"emilio.sorrentino@trn.mts.dec.com"Emilio SorrentinoTue Mar 25 1997 08:5955

Pete,
Firstable ,thanks for your interesting,

Peraphs my Email address is not so World-wide visible,
so i try again to use Notes.

Customer never copied files in /usr/sys/BINARY directory ,
but we don't know if VOX Application made by DIALOGIC, and
we don't know if after uninstalled subsets something is
remained on it.

I checked Mother-board, J27 is DISABLE, GRAPHIC is DISABLE in ECU.

I added line for trio in Config file ,and problem now is changed :

9129.2Not sure...NETRIX::"grist@zk3.dec.com"PaulFri Apr 04 1997 18:5222
I've tried to find something wrong with your config file,
but as long as you have "vga" and "ws" in there, I'm not
sure how you were getting those undefines. A "trio" device
would only be needed on a V4.0 system, when the name of
the driver changed, and it wouldn't be required because you
have an ATI card.

I'm not sure what this VOX product may have done or undone.
See if there is anything for /usr/.smdb./*VOX*.scp, those would
be the script files that handeled installation/removal of that
product.

One possible escape sequence is to boot /genvmunix, and then setld
the Digital UNIX distribution for youur version. This should go
and figure out what, if any, subsets your system is missing and
will call them mandatory. Afterwards, try running doconfig with
no arguments and see what happens, you should not have to reboot.

good luck,

Paul
