8893.0. "Full duplex support for FDDI" by NQOS01::rchdial4.rch.dec.com::Workbench () Wed Feb 19 1997 15:00

Hi!

I have a customer who has 7 AS 2100A in a compute ring connected via a
GIGAswitch. The systems were running DUNIX 3.2C and the FDDI cards were
supporting full duplex. The customer has upgrade the OS to DUNIX 4.0B and can
not get the line cards in the systems to run at full duplex. He has tried to
issue the fddi_config command but when he looks it says that full duplex is
"disabled"!

This seems to be a problem that goes back to the later 3.2 days as related to
us in notes 5868 (no answer came out of that note!) and 7742 (which didn't
even get a reply!). This seems to be a growing problem and deserves the
appropriate attention.

If anyone has a solution please respond....

Thanks

I think it's just a display problem (checkout valid xmit time)... I
think that the mode is actually being changed...

Are you noticing that the full duplex operation isn't actually working?

    # fddi_config -ifta0 -x1

    fta0 ANSI FDDI settable parameters

    Token Request Time: 0.0001 ms
    Valid Transmission Time: 0.0000 ms
    LEM Threshold: -1238695928
    Restricted Token Timeout: 8.2067 ms
    Ring Purger State: Purger off

When I check out the valid xmit time what should I be looking for that will
help me determine if full duplex is operational? Also if this is really just
a display problem, is there anything else I can do to determine positively
that the fddi card is operating in full duplex?

Thanks.....
