2566.0. "Move from Kanji/English to English" by KYOSS1::ERICKSEN (Cindy Ericksen/DTN:323-4051) Wed Mar 12 1997 16:31

    Hi All!

I have a question concerning mail exchange between a multi-language
ALL-IN-1 system (v3.0b Kanji & English) in Japan and an English
ALL-IN-1 system (v3.1) in the US. As I've never had to deal with a
multi-language system I'm not sure exactly how things work.

At my customer we have a situation where a user from Japan who is
running TeamLinks on a Macintosh (English version, v2.1) over
Appletalk and DECnet using both Kanji and English; he will shortly be
moving to the US. The customer allows for only 1 active email
mailbox per user so I have to know how to handle the miration of his
messages from the system in Japan to the local system. I was
thinking of drag-and-drop from his old mailbox to his new one but I
don't know how the languages will be handled by the US system.

Also, if a user has his language set to Kanji and sends a message to
someone using the system in the US am I correct in assuming the
original language of the message will be retained? Can the user in
the US view the message without a problem (the user here understands
    both languages).

Thanks for your help and understanding!

    Cindy

Unfortunately, the translated versions of ALL-IN-1 (and indeed most
products!) don't do automatic language translation of message content,
which would be a really neat feature!

So, you'll have to make sure that your new system can display messages
containing Kanji characters. I would think that the PC would need to be
running a Kanji version of Windows.
