2527.0. "Hardware upgrade and v3.1 with Alpha VMS 7.1" by KERNEL::BURDENI () Wed Feb 19 1997 13:41

    Hi,

    I have been searching through this conference and still feel in a
    little doubt as to the answer to the following :

    Background :
    I have a customer who is running ALL-IN-1 v3.1 on an Axp 2100
    (OpenVMS 6.2). The plan, is to move this system to an Axp 1000a which
    would require a minimum of OpenVMS 6.2-1H3.

    Problem:
    The customer has been advised to upgrade to Openvms 7.1 and judging
    from previous conference discussions, ALL-IN-1 v3.1 will be OK in this
    instance, though a patch is required along with the SYSGEN MULTITHREADS
    parametre set to 0. I am unsure of the required patch, and whether or
    not there are any other considerations.

    Some help would be appreciated with this.
    Many Thanks
    Ivan

2527.1Check MR / MB400 situation as wellZUR01::ASHGGrahame Ash @RLEWed Feb 19 1997 14:125
You should also check the situation with MR and MB400. I don't think the MB400
MTA runs on V7 (it's supported, but it doesn't seem to work!), and there maybe
problems with Message Router as well.

    Neither MB400, Message Router or any other Message Router related
    products have been certified on VMS V7.1

    If you're customer is running ALL-IN-1 V3.1, then they need to install
    ICF 48, which is an accumulation of patches including some fixes for
    VMS V7.0. These are also needed for VMS V7.1.

    Whilst you're at it, you might want to consider installing ICF 46,
    which contains accumulative patches for the File Cabinet Server - but
    that very much depends on how important the FCS is to them (e.g. any
    TeamLinks users ?).

    Does the customer run PathWorks at all ? I'd rather not go into the
    gory details unless they do... :-)

2527.5MR will be a big problemKERNEL::BURDENIThu Feb 20 1997 16:2413
    All,

    Re .4 There has been no mention of Pathworks, but there are teamlinks
    users using TCP/IP transport, I will note the relevant patches -
    thanks.

    Thanks for the replies, I think there is enough here especially on the
    MR side to deter him from upgrading to v7.n of Alpha VMS. Not that I
    would want to, but I think the issues highlighted will put a hault to
    the move. (At least till the Messaging solution can be thought out).

    Cheers,
    Ivan.

    It is great when you spot your own mistakes before someone else gets
    there first. They are using remote MR therefore there is no problem to
    report back to the customer. Except the patch requirements already
    discussed for ALL-IN-1..

    Cheers.
