996.0. "Psychic Reading by Phone??" by 49ER::MEYERS (Radio Contest Junky) Fri Feb 24 1989 19:21

    Hi Everyone,

Do you think it's possible to get an accurate psychic reading
    by the telephone?

One of our local radio stations had a psychic who was answering
    questions, etc., for the listeners.

I asked her if she thought I would get the job I wanted here at
DEC or if I should forget it...(I am hoping to do something else
here at DEC in a different career field).

She told me to forget it and look elsewhere - that I was limiting
    myself here.

What do you think about the accuracy of doing readings by the phone?
Does it depend upon the psychic? Was she just guessing? I really
wanted to hear that I WOULD get the job. I'm not really taking her
reading seriously - but it would be nice to know.

    Any thoughts?

    Nancy

Nancy, did the prediction feel right to *you* when she said it?

I'd want to know who was predicting before deciding about their accuracy.

A psychic I often talk to was met over the telephone. It was a
radio show where the radio audience called in and gave their first
name and city/town they lived in. I did that and he told me what
my question was (it was involved), and proceeded to answer the question
tho I never heard the answer because of shock/surprise.

Since seeing him over a period of years, we've become friends and
often talk. He would be the first to tell you that you have the
ability to change what is said. That about 80% of predictions will
change because the individual chooses to do so. Only 20% happen
as they slip thru without being dealt with.

My advice is to go for the position if it is really what you want.
Put your whole heart and soul into it if it is important to you.
It's your life, don't let someone discourage you. You may not get
the position, but by trying, you may make contacts, learn more about
    that area of employment, etc.

    Good luck,
    Joanne

996.42 x impossible = impossibleFNYFS::DONALDSONOkay! The green *rabbit* leaps...Mon Feb 27 1989 14:1913
It depends on 'readings' work. If we can imagine mechanisms
to allow, for example, dowsing by map, or clairvoyance then
it's certainly possible to imagine readings over the telephone.

Basically, most of the things we talk about in this
conference are 'impossible' - so why worry about a
telephone getting in between? :-)

But if the readings depend on some subtle reading of
the clients body - then the telephone will probably
get in the way. ;-)

M, I think what .2 is saying is, seek the answer from God first, before trying
psychic-by-phone. (telepsychic??)

I'm less uncomfortable now than I used to be when someone quotes from the
Bible. Everything has its place, and I bring those quotes in to my life for a
reason, if only to find out with what do I disagree.

Many psychics have been able to do some pretty remarkable things with
only knowing the persons name and where the were at the time of the reading.
Distance didn't seem to make any difference. Since this kind of information
comes from the 'invisible world', from what we don't know, once it is received
by someone sensitive to it, what difference does their means of communicating
it to us make?

I would say it's possible but whether the woman is sincere, that's
another question entirely. You have to 'feel' that for yourself.
Since you asked the question and got an answer from the woman, if
it doesn't feel right (the little voice inside) be careful not to let
what she said 'plant' a suggestion in your mind. If the job is
something you really want (and for good reasons) think positively
about it and you can make it happen.

996.10Tarot reading by PhoneDRCS::ABEYAInes ABEYA @GEO - BACK FOR A WHILEWed Mar 01 1989 09:2821
My Tarot teacher told me that she regularly does readings over
the phone, but that it is of course much better to be able to see
    the person.

The way it works, is that she asks ther person who wants
a reading to pick 4 numbers between 1 and 22. She uses the "Tarot
de Marseille" where each card is numbered, and takes the 4 cards
with the corresponding numbers to do the reading.

This can of course only work well with "customers" who don't know
the numbers of the cards themselves.

What amazes me is that the majority of her readings (even ove the
    phone) are accurate.

What Nancy doens't tell us in .0 is HOW the reading was done:
without any support (medium), using cards and/or numerology (eg.
number of letters in your first name/date of birth) and/or astrology
(did the psychic ask your date of birth ?).

    Re: 996.10

My reading was done only by asking the psychic a certain question
(in this case "Would I get the job I want?") - she didn't ask for
my birthday, personal information, or where I lived, etc.

I still haven't gotten the job yet....so maybe she was right!!

Just kidding - I am still trying to keep a positive mental attitude
    about the whole thing.

Hm. I have found two types of reactions regarding this question, and not only
in Christian fundamentalist circles. The first type is that of fear for the
evil, embodied in "unnatural" phenomena. I have encountered this several times
in Christian fundamentalist circles, and every time I found out that they make
no distinction between "poltergeist"-like phenomena, clairvoyance, healing,
whatever. As far as I know the bible, there is no reference in there to support
this view.

The second type of reaction is found more often in eastern philosophies or
religions. They state that psi-phenomena like clairvoyance, healing, mind
reading etc. are things that you may acquire during your process of
enlightenment. They warn you not to focus on them, since such a focussing
actually may block you from further enlightenment: it focusses you too much on
earth-bound ("physical-world-bound") matters.

> Do you say it is of the devil?

If, Neal, this is a question to Lorenzo, then I cannot answer it. However, I had
the *strongest* feeling while reading his reply, that he was speaking in line
with my second type of reaction. I have read it like this: please do not focus
on psi-phenomena; focus beyond it, and you may acquire it automatically if you
need it.

At least, that's the way I appreciated his reply. Lorenzo?

I second the recommendation about going to the IOSG::CHRISTIAN
conference and asking the question. There are very few fundamentalist
Christians who participate in this conference, so might be best
to go where you would receive the answer you are looking for, complete
with references to scripture to support their view.

Oh well, the psychic was right! I didn't get the job.
They are going to abolish the requisition I applied for or
combine it with a different one (which would probably make
the position too technical for me to apply for).

P.S. I am still thinking positive!!

I just "happened" to feel like reading this conference today,
and then I just "happened" to see this discussion -- this after
having just realized yesterday that some things had actually come
to pass that had been predicted	to me over the phone! To wit:
earlier this year I called a physic who had been recommended to me
by a friend. I thought, why not? I had just had my chart read,
and I figured it would be interesting to see if her readings coin-
cided with what he had said. Without even asking for my birth
date, the woman I called started to tell me about who I was and what
was going on in my life. That's not the interesting part. I told
her the main reason I called was to see what she thought about the
possibility of my getting a job in DEC-UK, something my manager and
I have been working on for sometime which could go either way. She
told me that I would be in England in April, and that I would also
meet someone (non-work related) while I was over there (not a typical
thing for me to experience). I subsequently forgot all about our
	conversation.

It suddenly dawned on me yesterday that both predictions have come
to pass! I have just returned from a two-week trip to REO to check
out the prospective job (okay, so she was off by a week), and while
I was over there, I did actually meet someone outside Digital who
will probably become a good friend if I go back! As someone stated
earlier	in this discussion, we DO have the capability of altering the
directions in which we go, but even so, this was such a delightful
coincidence that I wanted to share it. I also believe in the theory
of "visualizing" yourself in the place that you want to be, so I've
been doing a lot of that lately, too, which probably didn't hurt.
