Perhaps a Jellyfish, just bobbing along on lifes beautiful ocean
of experience, causing no harm to anyone except those who grab me
    by the tentacles ( ! ).

Or maybe a Killer Whale, munching all those little furry sea mammals
that humans get sentimental about ( oops, sorry Carla...but what
    about the abalone ? ).

But there again, perhaps an Andean Condor, soaring along thousands

An elephant. I've always loved the beasts. As a child I wanted
nothing to do with teddy bears, dolls--I had my stuffed elephant
collection, which I have kept to this day. Even now, my husband and
family occasionally give me an elephant for a birthday or Christmas.
I read volumes about them, their lives and habitats and behaviors.
I cried most of the way through Dumbo. I instinctively loved them,
even the smelly, real ones I ogled at the zoos. I was ecstatic when
I finally got to ride one at a state fair some 5 years ago.

599.22A story to tell what animal I like to be and whyLASSIE::MARIGOWDAThu Dec 17 1987 01:1247

Once there was a deer. One day while roaming around in its forest it met
a lonely wolf. Deer did not know, that it was a wolf, for it had not met
any wolves before. Deer slowly got close to the wolf and asked the wolf
if they can become friends and play together. Wolf agreed and they became
friends. And after couple of days wolf killed the dear and eat it.

As all the deers go, this deer also went to heaven. There God saw this
deer always being sad. So, one day God went near the deer and asked why it
was so sad inspite of being in heaven.

Deer:"God I am thinking of the friend who killed me. Thinking of his
behaviour hurts me a lot. Why was it so dishonest?"

God:"Your friend who killed you is a wolf. Wolf do not care about a
deer's love and friendship. All they care and see is the flesh that
they can eat. Who asked you to be friends with a wolf?"

Deer:"But it said it was my friend, it promised to help me. It always
talked of high values and principles. It even used to cry when ever it
used to hurt me. More than anything I trusted those tears and thought
of it as a great friend."

God:"Ok, enough of being sad. I will send you back to the forest. Now
I will give you a choice to be what ever the animal you want to be. You
can go as a wolf if you want to. Do you want to?"

Deer:"No God I cannot be a wolf and live a life of lies and betray friends
for the desire of flesh. I like to be a deer only. Give me more intelligence
to find out who is a real friend and who is not"

God:"Now you know the pain of betrayel, abuse of trust, you will never inflict
the same kind of pain on others. Try and learn from this pain you will be
peaceful.

Understand this my little dear then you will not grieve any more. Every one
walks the path they choose. As you are choosing the path of trust, Love and
friendship, the Wolf chooses the path of preying on other animals flesh. Do
not worry your little head about the path others have chosen. Live the path
you have chosen and keep your heart clean.

Wolves are around, keep distance from them and remember never trust a Wolf's
tears and never trust a wolf's smooth talks. Now go dance my dear to your
heart's content and be happy in the forest."

There are four animals that I wouldn't mind being -

. A cat - but only if I had a good, loving home where I would be
treated with the respect I deserve! :-) This would be at the
times when I want to be admired and taken care of.

. A dolphin - at the times when I want to be free and playful!!!

. An owl - at the times when I long to know the mysteries of life!!!

. A little creature of the forest, something like a chipmunk. I
sometimes daydream about being this little creature and living
in a world where I *was not* part of the food chain and had an
endless supply of vegetation to eat and a warm little burrow to
sleep in, filled with fragrant leaves and flowers. I would spend
my days soaking up the sunshine, playing with all my forest friends,
and then spending wonderful dreamfilled nights in my cozy home.
This would be at the times when I need to feel totally secure

I would want to be a Lark. It seems to me that the expression "Happy

Here is a "relevant" quote from Lazaris' new book ("The Sacred
Journey")[although this could also go under the Reincarnation
    topic.]:

    "...
Once you move out of any Kingdom, you never go back. Once
you step over the boundary and enter the Human Kingdom, you never
step back. Certain Eastern philosophies notwithstanding, you do
not step back. The last animal lifetime, however, is a very important
transitional lifetime. Within each animal species certain types
of animals have a much smoother transition than others. In the
species of birds, for example, we would suggest that an eagle, hawk,
or owl has an easier transition to the Human Kingdom than, say,
a buzzard! There is no species better than another; there are
just certain animals within a species that are more likely to make
    the jump than others.
The last animal you were, we would suggest, is often your
Spirit Animal. If you can remember or discover what it was, it
can be of grand assistance in your current growth. It can be of
assistance, that is true, but certainly it is not necessary to
    your growth."

        I don't know which animal I might have been...I suspect I was
a snake in some lifetime (a bushmaster!) :-)

599.37Dolphin, killer whaleCHICKN::GAUTHIERWed Jan 27 1988 19:5222
    HI.
In my usual open-minded way, I read .0 and decided immediately
that I wasn't interested. Then I remembered that I had often thought
I'd like to be an Orca, a killer whale. My first choice is dolphin,
but Killer whales EAT them. I'd want to be on the top of the food
    chain.
What I'd like about being a dolphin, and this is hopefully
true about killer whales, is that they don't have much of a problem
getting enough to eat. They are so well adapted to their environment
that they can hunt for a relatively small portion of the time and
get all they need. They spend a lot of their time playing and having
fun, goofing with other dolphins and other animals. They are thought
to be highly intelligent and to possess language; they don't screw
up the earth and overpopulate it, like some animals I know! They
are very social. Sometimes I wonder if, when we're ready to reincarnate
to a higher life form, we become dolphins, or some other type of
    whale.
I'm very partial, probably like most people, to mammals.
Now I guess I'll take a look and see what everybody else would like
    to be.

Being a perfectionist at heart -- although falling chasms short
of it in real life -- I believe that there is only one creature
that I could tolerate being. A SHARK, preferably a great white,
but I suppose I'd settle for a Mako or Tiger. Of all the creatures
on this earth, they are the closest to perfect. They have two basic
functions, eating and breeding; they are at the summit of the food
chain - even man has to be careful; and they are adapted perfectly
to their environment. I have been greatly interested in sharks
for many years, and have come to the conclusion that if I believed
in evolution, sharks would be the one creature that would have had
to change the least. I like that, I'm a creature of habit and I
usually resist change, I think I'd like being in total control of
my "territory" and not have to worry about much except a harpoon, an
occasional killer whale (see -.1), or a rambunctious dolphin.

BTW: (-.1) Although the killer whale is at the top of the food
chain and has been know to attack a shark or two, there are more
incidences of sharks attacking and killing whales (any type) than
vise-versa -- especially great whites, so....
