2074.0. "Meeting your double" by VYGER::BEVERIDGEG () Wed Sep 27 1995 11:15

Last night I was ot for a drink with a friend who is moving to Hong
Kong fo 3 years with her work. We have only known each other for about
a year but when we were first introduced we hit it off almost
immediately, like we were both on the same wavelength. Anyway, we have
both had similar experiences in life before we met and it's been great
fun relating to each other things that have happened to us over the
years, but she told me something last night that happened to her at the
weekend and it totally freaked me, because the same thing has happened
to me not that long ago.
She was travelling to see her parents who live in Cambletown on Friday.
The bus journey from Glasgow takes about 4 hours and she usually has a
sleep or reads a book to pass the time. Anyway, the bus stopped to pick
people up in one of the towns and for some reason she woke up and
stared out the window at the queue. To her surprise there was a girl at
the bus stop who was her double. Her hair was slightly shorter and she
had different dress sense, but apart from that she was identical. The
girl looked up at Hazel and a similar shocked look appeared on her
face. Hazel was about to get off the bus and go and speak to her, but
the girl legged just as the bus pulled away from the stop.

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

    Cut that out, Bill. (;^)

About 20 years ago or so, I worked as a waitress while going to school,
and many of my customers would come in and say they saw me driving in
such-and-such a place in the town, however given the times and
locations, it definitely wasn't me. Not only did she look like me,
but she was driving the exact same car. I never did meet up with her
    myself though.

Another time I met a girl who looked like the exact double of one of
    my younger sisters.

About the same time frame that Cindy was waitressing, I was pumping gas
and mechanicing for a living. I was told on more then one occasion that
I was spoted at a local par 3 gold course that was also a popular
imbibing joint. (It's now the T. J. Maxx plaza in Tyngsboro, Ma.) It
seems this fellow was a bit of a Hell raiser and rowdy drinker. he kept
getting thrown out of the joint for fighting. People swore that it was
me and I almost got fired for it, when a couple of service station
customers didn't trust me to wait on them. I had to alibi myself to my
boss for my whereabouts the night before. The only time I was ever in
the Par 3 was about 8 or 9 years after this event for a company outing.
(Not Digital). This was in the daytime and I had nothing to drink. The
people working the bar must have been different, because no one
approached me to leave. Still haven't met this fellow and don't really
want to. I have a cousin who looks a lot like me, but he's a paraplegic
and couldn't have been this guy.

Doubles or Evil Twins (or Good Twins), I believe that we all have them
and some of us get to meet them.

    Bright Blessings,

    Shame on you Bill 8^)

Yeah, Hazel says she has been accused of ignoring friends in the street
and driving different cars in places she couldn't possibly have been
in. It's a real weird situation. Don't know what I would do if I came
across my double. Pretty scary to think there is another one of me
walking about. One is bad enough. ;^)

Hmmmm, this double business might work to my advantage.
Whenever confronted with allegations of dallying with friends'

2074.6I've got doubles out there too...BGSDEV::LANGONEThu Sep 28 1995 15:5914

I have often had the experience where people who know me have seen
me in places I wasn't in. And on occasion complete strangers telling
me how glad they were to see me again and having to explain to them
    I'm NOT that person.

Part of my theory is that some of us have more generic faces or
body types than others. I've known other folks that are mistaken for
other people all the time and they're sort of generic looking like
    me.

But only on one occasion did I meet somesone that REALLY looked
    like me.

About 15 years ago I was working my way through school driving a
delivery route. While stopped outside one of the stores I was delivery
to, a woman exited the store and begin to stare at me. I kept an eye on
her as she looked at me with a baffled expression on her face. She then
approached my truck and got up to the door. With the still baffled look
on her face she told me that I looked just like her son and had been
curious as to what her son was doing sitting outside this store in a
huge truck. She said I could pass as his twin.

Another time i was in a bar just up the street from my house and a man
came up to the table where my friend and I were seated. He looked at me
and started talking to me as if we were aquainted and proceeds to ask
if I can get him more of that white stuff some people put up their
nose. I politely told him that I had'nt a clue as to what he was
talking about and tried to excuse myself. He did'nt believe me and kept
badgering me about the dope. I finally lost my tolerance for this and
rather unpolitely told him to get the f*** out of my face and leave me
    alone.

There have also been other minor occurences where someone thought I was
someone they knew. I sometimes wonder if I go to sleep and night only
to wake up moments later and lead an alternative life. Maybe thats why
I feel so sleepy all the time?!...

We all have a double....and that double has what we don't...no one
is made fully complete(mentally) and so the double has the other half
of what you don't...and when a meeting has occured.....ESP.....the
psychic power is unavoidable. It's actyally amazing, some might be
just as sceptical as in UFO's,,, but hey......something beyond words is
    always out there....:-)

2074.9Twins?VYGER::BEVERIDGEGSun Oct 01 1995 06:3810
Is that the same kind of thing as where you have identical twins? I
    think that there is always something a bit weird about identical twins;
they are always very close and sometimes they don't even have to
physically speak to each other if they want to say something. It's like
they have vey close telepathic links or something. I have known several
pairs of twins over the years and more notably they have all been
female and they have always struck me as being a bit to weird. It can
be quite strange talking to one of them thinking all the time if it's
the right one you are talking to.

2074.10a twin for lifeNPSS::CREEGANThu Oct 26 1995 16:3735
This happened to me several Fridays ago up in the LKG cafe.
An oriental woman kept saying "Hi" and smiling while I was
building a salad. Then an oriental man (her husband?) came
over and asked me if I was Justin's mother [Justin is my
nephew]. (I had to show him my badge with my name on it.)

Oops, forgot I am an identical twin. BUT NOT AT WORK (since
we are never together at work). By this I mean, when we
shop together (whatever) and we're walking together, my mind
    knows (from people's reaction/faces), "Oh, this is a twin-thing."
But I don't think that way at work.

And, YES, people have come up to me and asked me if I am so-and-so,
BUT THEY AREN'T USING MY TWIN'S NAME. I tell them I'd like to
meet this person, especially since my twin and my younger sister could
    pass for triplets.

    Summing up being a twin:
Your best friend lasts your whole life, vacations with you when you
are a kid, your child-hood memories are full with her, you go to the
same school, you move together, maybe even gets a job in the
same company after school. And when she has a baby, you are "more
than an Auntie", because genetically we are identical, this child
could have been yours (exactly/identically) had you met her spouse.
And without an eye-blink I would and could donate an organ that
would not be rejected by her or her children. At family gatherings
our babies could be picked up by their twin-aunt and be coddled
and soothed by their look-alike-mommies (we look alike, we sound
alike, we nuture and enjoy). As toddlers they would grab their
twin-aunt leg when returning to "Mom" after exploring a room or new
situation. We pat and rub the child without them ever realizing
they've made a mistake. My parents and siblings still make
mistakes. I answer to "Karen" as easily as I answer to "Kathy".

A twin is your best friend for your whole life.

There is this gas station down the street and I have
been going there on and off for years. Well, one day
this attendant asked me how my dog was. I never had
a dog. He told me there was this other woman who
looked exactly like me, driving exactly the same car,
who pumped her own gas, but had a dog! Now, I have never
seen another car like mine, driven by any woman who looked
anything like me, who would consider pumping her own gas
(I do it myself because I can't stand sloppy fillup jobs).
My theory, in my case, is that people like to generalize to
help their memory. The reason behind my theory - I am oriental
and whenever there is another oriental woman in the group, people
will get us mixed up, even if there is hardly any resemblance
except for the generic dark hair and dark eyes. It is not easy
for someone to find (forget meet randomly) an oriental woman
as tall as I am (I had trouble finding clothes that fit
in Asia), in a countryside town in New England, driving
a performance sports sedan. In my last 15 years or so, I
have never met another oriental woman anywhere near I live
or work who would drive in such an agressive (maniac) manner to enjoy
the car I have, never mind paying money for it! So, it just does
not make sense - yes, I know I am generalize also, but I know
what an oddball I am, thus I think I can half-safely generalize.
Of course, if I ever have a chance to meet this other woman ...

re:11..............eventually a child will tell the difference between
who's mom and who's auntie. I don;t agree with letting child be fooled
by who is who, You should make sure they are made aware of mistaking
you for mom, you for auntie. They need to "practice" figuring out who
is who. If the child comes to you and calls you mom, don't go on as if
you were mom, immediatley tell the child you are auntie. And tell
him/her where mom is. They need a choice.

    Re.15

    Debbie,

Given that you were born so close in time to your 'twin', not only do
you share Sun signs in the western astrological system (Gemini), but
you also almost certainly share Ascendants in the Vedic system of
    astrology as well.

Ascendants in that system happen in two hour windows every day, and
Ascendants - not the Sun signs - are the critical factor in that system.
So you're even more alike astrologically in that system than people born
    on the same day.

    Cindy
