2072.0. "Antique jewelry" by WRKSYS::MACKAY_E () Tue Sep 19 1995 19:11

Does anyone believe or heard anything about good or
bad luck (or spirits) associated with antique jewelry
(aka. estate jewelry)? I love the craftmanship of old
jewelry and have acquired a few pieces over the years.
However, I've heard sayings that sometimes the old
jewelry can come with more than what we bargain for.

I heard that old jewelry, (and I suppose new jewelry or anything) can
be "cursed". I would tend to think that jewelry being made up of mostly
precious and semi-precious stones and metals can pick up and hold
energy given off by people and situations that happen where the jewelry
is present. After all, they are crystals. :-) Just older and in crafted
settings. I'm sure that others in here can expound further.

    Just my random thoughts.

2072.3Grandmother's ringSTOWOA::PPARKERTue Sep 19 1995 21:2110
Hi, Just my two cents worth but I have been wearing my deceased
Grandmother's diamond ring for 24 years now. I never, never take it
off and my luck is nothing but good. Even had a narrow escape once (a
car accident) in which most people would have been killed and I never
even got a scrape (but thats a whole nuther story). Anyway, it is an
old European cut stone handed down from her pennsylvania dutch
husband's relatives. I never connected anything but possibly this is a
very lucky ring. Hopefully some are lucky while some carry bad vibes.

Good idea, Cindy. I'll be seeing Roz on Friday evening and post what I
learn here on Monday. Thanks for the suggestion.

I talked to Roz Reed on Friday evening and asked about "cursed"
jewelry. Basically, she agreed with me. She said that stones,
(crystals, precious and semiprecious stones and metals) pick up energy
from everyone who touches them and this energy can be postive or
negative, depending on the intent (concious or otherwise) of the person
handling the piece. In fact, one can attempt (and maybe succeed or not)
to place postive or negative energy in a piece of jewelry, a gemstone,
or a crystal and turn it into a "good" or "bad" luck piece. The Crystal
    Skull legends come to mind.

Anyway, the best thing to do when coming into possession of a piece of
jewelry, is to cleanse it. Bury it in sea salt for 8 days and this
should do it. Then you can place your own energy and intent into the
    piece.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Bright Blessings,

    Thanks for the info.

Why sea salt? Can I find it in natural food store?
Put the salt in a cup and bury the piece?

Sea salt has always been the traditional way of mystically cleansing
crystals. Something about the purity of it. I'll try to look up the
exact meaning of it.A couple of words of warning:
words of warning. When I first started doing this, (cleansing of
crystals), I placed a hematite orb that was on a silver chain into a
mixture of sea salt and water. Basically, a home made ocean. The
silver chain came out blackened and smudgey. A real mess. So be
careful there. I now use moonlight (full moon) on silver. Also, the
funest way to purify crystals (IMHO) is putting them directly in the
ocean. The major issue here is that they like to swim and you could
lose them. I'll place them in a bag and tie the bag on me and take a
swim or use a tidal pool that's part of a rock outcropping on the coast
and is constantly replenished by waves. However that is just how I like
to do it. You may have ideas of your own.

Basically, putting the salt in a cup and burying it for 8 days will
work. I certainly don't swim with them for 8 days, but feel that Great
Mother Ocean (The blood of the Goddess, as it were) is closer and
besides, I love to play in the waves. :-) You may also want to ask for
a blessing on the stones or a successful cleansing. If you're not
comfortable with this, then it won't matter. Sea salt should be
available in health food stores or in metaphysical shops that carry
herbs and such for spell work.

All of the above is, as always, IMHO and I'm sure there are folks in
here with more experience then I, that can tell me if I'm full of crap
or not and set you straight. Then again, the non-believers will say I'm
full of crap and those who just know me personally may say that anyway.
    :-)

    Bright Blessings,

I think it's because sea salt has more of the 'energy' in it available
for purification (and also being from the ocean and all) because it
hasn't been mined and/or processed like the table salt you'd buy off the
    grocery store shelf.

I do know that it's a very good thing to take a bath with a pound of
sea salt because it draws the impurities out of your aura. Or just do
a foot soak with a handful of the sea salt, if you can't do a bath
(then flush that water down the toilet and use the dishpan for your
foot soak only from then on). My Sahaja Yoga friends do this every
evening. I used to do the foot bath, and should probably consider
starting back up the practice...(;^) It does help to cleanse one's
aura. When I did it for several weeks in a row once, I could feel the
    difference.

Barbara Brennan recommends a pound of sea salt and a pound of baking
soda for a bath, then once done with that, go out into the sun for a
short while to recharge your aura.

I know that sea salt is good for cleansing but could never figure out
why I didn't feel comfortable using it on my crystals. I attended a
workshop a month or so ago and this was discussed. It seems that sea
salt is just too harsh for the crystals, often causing dullness and a
sort of "lifeless" condition. It was suggested to use "rescue remedy"
or to smudge the crystals or to even just hold them and impart your
energy/intent. Leaving in the moonligt was also discussed.

Interesting, MaryAnne! I've felt the same thing with my clear and rose
quartz crystals, so I've resorted to just gentle soap and water for the
dust accumulation, and then smudging and leaving them out in sunlight...
though one wanted to be left in the full moon for a while. So that
makes a lot of sense. Still feels OK to give the clear quartz a quick
dip in the ocean though...any thoughts on that?

    Rescue Remedy - that's a great idea.

I guess, like everything else, you have to do what feels right! ;')

There are no set rules....that's what makes it magic

I like the rescue remedy idea, MaryAnne. I mentioned the moonlight, but
I never thought of the sunlight. Guess that's what comes of being a
Cancer. :-) I would think an ocean dip is still OK, Cindy. That's not
    as harsh as pure seasalt.

MaryAnne, I like that no rules statement. While there are certain guide
lines that should be followed for safety's sake, I think a lot of the
rules were set down to maintain a modicum of control over apprentices
and to "impress the rubes". Same as in organized religion.

Old saying; "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them
    with B******T". :-)

    PJ,
I guess I need to clarify about the rules...I agree there are certain
things that must be followed....I guess what I mean is that we all need
    to listen to our hearts...

    MaryAnne
2072.16WMOIS::CONNELLStory does that to us.Wed Sep 27 1995 18:5514
MaryAnne, I agree completely. I've just found that when I've read about
certain rituals that provide certain results, I've thought; "Hey! I've
done that", or "that's happened to me and I didn't follow these
guidelines". Also, just the opposite as when I've followed the method
or ritual to the letter and absolutely nothing happened.

So listening to one's heart is probably rule #1 at all times.
Variations can be "Let your conscience be your guide", gut reaction,
first instincts and the like. Listening to your heart is the most
    beautiful one, though.

    Bright Blessings,

I have a couple of my mother's rings and some of her jade pieces
which I will not clean, since she is a very lucky woman and she
has nothing but good wishes for me.

I bought an old channel set platinum and diamond anniversy ring years
ago and in retrospect I think it bought me the worst "vibes" in my life.
It mysteriously disappeared (well, I somehow lost it, the only piece
of jewelry that I have ever lost to date) around the time that
my second daughter died. I don't usually lose things, I have no idea
how and where I could have lost it and I don't think anyone stole it either.
I guess, I am better off without it.
