2066.0. "Help for Bosnia" by BUNKA::LEMEN () Fri Aug 11 1995 17:35

A friend of mine has received a postcard asking for assistance in helping
resolve the situation in Bosnia. Starting today, for every day of the next
month, people are requested to meditate, pray, send light --- whatever is
appropriate to your spiritual practice --- for two minutes every day at 3:00
pm New York time. The intention is to ask for a resolution to the conflict.

Thanks,

	june

After 21 days of attempts to stop the fighting by prayer the
cumulative messages from F-15s appear to be getting through!
It's ironic that seaborne flights are launching from the
carrier, Teddy Roosevelt, of "speak softly but carry a bigggggg
    stick!, fame."
Nothing like a cruise missile down your vent stack to give
    you 180 degree attitude adjustment!

To those of you in the US & Canada, there is now appearing on the
Discovery Channel a 4 night documentary on the causes and initial
breakup of Yugoslavia. I highly reccomend it. It shows how the
breakup of the USSR and the strong Russian/Serb ethnic ties made
European western military help almost impossible for fear of
igniting a already volatile Russia. It also shows the political
infighting of a dying Yugoslavic Communist Party that excabberated
the minor skirmises and how the European Community's "Lord Carrington
Peace Plan" actually accelerated the fragmentation of Yugoslavia and
polarized the Serbs from their neighbors.
There were very few "good guys" in the Balkans from 1990-1995!
There was also demonstrated a pervailing feeling that most all the
populations of the republics were not ethnic haters and that only
the breakdown of law and order and the tolerance of thuggery drew
these people into their historically aligned feuds. Politicians,
using fear mongering to consolidate power.
dejavu, an appropiate word in Balkan politics! BillM
