2023.0. "dreams with water?" by ROMEOS::TREBILCOT_EL () Tue Jan 10 1995 23:24

Any input would be appreciated ...

lately I've had a significant number of dreams with water.

one is where some people I know but haven't seen for several months are
    trying to drown me

another was where some former sales coworkers are in shark infested
waters, trying to coax me into the waters. They maintained the sharks
wouldn't hurt me and it was great water to swim in and I knew in the
dream that they were lying. So I refused. They got angry and all got
out of the water and left and when they did, the sharks
disappeared...THEN I jumped in and enjoyed a swim.

In others I'm in my apartment (although it isn't the one I live in now)
and the waters outside rise up over my windows and the waves crash
against them, trying to break in, but the windows hold. I watchin in
more fascination than fear at this point.

Before I moved to California (7 months ago) I had several dreams that I
moved in with a friend I knew in California and then the place flooded.

It was the same dream several nights in a row
    and now these repeat often

When I looked up the definition of water/drowning in several dream
dictionaries, they all basically said that it represented holding
    emotions in...

someone suggested water as a cleansing ... but I can tell you THAT
doesn't fit my life at all!

Any ideas? Your comments are always welcome.

Oh, and my life at both points, before I moved and now, were times when
I was making decisions about significant changes

2023.1My thoughts on your dreamsSUBPAC::CTHOMPSONWed Jan 11 1995 05:0231
    Hi,
I have some thoughts about your dreams.... I think that the
significant theme is people from the past rather than the water. In
both of the first two the people from the past are the threat, not the
water. So because I don't know details of your life I will speculate
about the meaning... Is there something in the past you are trying to
get away from... either on an emotional or physical level?? ie if
you are making decisions now, are the decisions about career changes?
If so, are you considering something really different? And do you feel
particularly unhappy with your current career--- therefore the dreams
are a reflection that you really are unhappy with that career in the
past and those particular people (is it the same career you have today
and are thinking about changing) and if this is so, is one of your
problems with your current/past career that the people aren't honest
or sincere and perhaps don't share the same values as you do?

As for the dream about the apartment and the rising water and the
fascination rather than fear.... I'll go further out on a limb here and
speculate that the changes in your life (one's being considered) really
don't frighten you even though they may seem overwhelming... you are
ready to move on and are really interested in changing... and the
rising water may indicate that you're ready to walk away from the
things in your life that are holding you back (sort of a cleansing of
    the soul??)

Well I hope none of this is too strange.. only good spirited
speculation on my part... let me know what you think. If I'm way off
I hope I spurred some thought that may lead you to the understanding
    you seek.

2023.2more thoughtsSUBPAC::CTHOMPSONWed Jan 11 1995 05:0919
More thoughts after re-reading your entry.... it seems after reading
the dream about the shark infested waters that perhaps it really is the
people in your life (or past) that you are most unhappy with...
because the water wasn't really bad, the people made it seem that way.
so perhaps the career/situation wasn't bad but rather the people you
worked with... if you are considering a career change or relocating to
where you came from before California, perhaps you need to consider the
people that you knew before and perhaps avoiding them in the future (if
you return to the old career/location)

By the way, the current rains and flooding in California may be
why the water is so prevalent in your dreams. Our dreams often are
filled with details from what we see and hear in our everyday life..
however, the messages we need to get are often intertwined and not
    related to the specific detail.

    		Look forward to your reaction...

2023.4yes yes and YES!ROMEOS::TREBILCOT_ELWed Jan 11 1995 16:5014
    re: .3
No, I did not drink any alcohol before bed. The last time I had
alcohol was some champagne on New Year's and even then only two
glasses. I'm really into healthy eating, exercising, not drinking,
etc. No pizza before bed either.

    re: .1 and .2
I did not want to put too many details of my life in here...would be
too long...but yes yes and YES! You certainly provided extremely
    accurate insight!

    Thank you for your input!
