1992.0. "Millenium" by CRISTA::MAYNARD (The Front Row Kid) Thu Sep 22 1994 17:42

Excerpt from the Boston Globe (Sep-22-94) from an article entitled
"Apocalypse now...or maybe later" by William A. Davis
The Millenium and how New Age groups are dealing with it.
    (I have omitted Biblical references)

...New Age seers are more imaginative. Several have predicted that a
"parallel planet" will soon pass close to earth, making it possible
for those in the know to hitch a ride- and start a new life- on a
    better world.
Total Overcomers, one of the most unusual apocalyptic groups believe
Judgement Day is imminent but can be avoided by joining the crew of
a fleet of spaceships that will blast off "in a cloud of light" for
another spiritual dimension just before the world ends.
The Total Overcomers- so called because as part of their spaceship
training they must overcome "human mammalian addictions" such as
tobacco, alcohol and sex- have taken out ads in USA Today and other
newspapers with grabber headlines like " Last Chance To Advance Beyond
Human!" A Total Overcomer recruiting team visited the Boston area
recently and gave free lectures at the Cambridge Center for Adult
Education and the Massachusetts College of Art.
Billed as UFO discussions, the lectures attracted about 150 people.
A Total Overcomer spokeswoman declined to say if the group had picked
up any new members here. "This isn't for everyone," she noted.
Another new age theory is that a galactic photon belt will soon blot
out the sun and cause a worldwide electrical blackout, during which
space alien troops will land and wipe out Earth's inhabitants. In a
variation on this scenario, both the blackout and the invasion are
engineered by geriatric but still power-mad Nazis who have been hiding
in caverns beneath the South Pole since the end of WWII.
Even Native American Shamans, not usually associated with apocalyptic
prophecies, are talking about major but welcome changes in store for
the world. Focal point of theirs is the birth in Wisconsin a month ago
of a white buffalo calf called Miracle. True white buffalo, as
distinguished from albinos, are very rare and occur only once in every
10 million births. "This is like the second coming of Christ on this
island of North America," said Floyd Hand, a Sioux Medicine Man.
"The legend is she would return and unify the nations of the 4 colors-
    black, red, yellow and white."....

Millenium Fever. This, too, shall pass.

If a white buffalo can do this, she has my support. I'm taking
    a "wait and see" attitude.

I think there's a gender problem here...

The NATIVE_AMERICANS Notesfile indicated that this
buffalo calf was a HE, not a SHE.
