1979.0. "* T_F_S_O DREAM *" by ELMAGO::AWILLETO (R U Green?) Mon Aug 08 1994 18:39

    Greetings:

I did a DIR/TITLE="Dreams" and came up with 1978 Topics, and none of
them seem to address the T_F_S_O theme, therefore I considered it
appropriate to enter a new dream topic (Mods: permission to relocate if
    needed).

I had a dream last night which I think is TFSO related: I will enter
the dream (very brief), and follow with my reasons why I consider it
TFSO-related -- However, I would be very pleased to receive your
    thoughts or intrepretations as well.

                                    *** *** ***

    Thus the dream:

I enjoyed a very good time at a Pueblo Feast (a local community festival
which features dancing, food, and comraderie) and was leaving in my car
when I suddenly felt very tired and parked on the side of the road to
    nap.

I was thrown out of my sleep by a loud horrendous storm. As I studied
the storm more closely, it turned out to be a series of tornadoes headed
my way, with the first one not twenty feet from my car. (My car was
faced towards the village I had just left and I had luckily parked along
side an outcropping which has effectively place me in a safe pocket.)

The tornadoes were very uniform and paced by my car in a very timed
fashion and I counted them as they passed. Well, my car rocked a little
as they passed and on the sixtieth tornado which was larger and stronger
than the rest, I was afraid the car would be lifted and proceeded to
roll down the window and prepare to leave the car -- but the tornado
    left and I was safe.

Well, I retreated from my car and walked into the road and found that
there was a crossroad there and many people from several cars were
running towards me to see if I was alright. I told them I was OK but
felt a little thristy. One young beautiful native girl held out a sweet
looking flower (an iris/orchid/morning glory type) and I took it and ate
    it.

In the distance was another girl, more sophisticated looking, holding
two flute champagne glasses filled and topped with similar flowers. She
handed me a glass and I proceeded to eat the flower (again!).

    Then the dream was over.

1979.1Torrential Winds -- My Intrepretation...ELMAGO::AWILLETOR U Green?Mon Aug 08 1994 18:4056

                                   *** *** ***

                                  Tornado Dream

                                       ***

    The Following is my intrepretation:

Our plant will close in December this year and each employee has
received a notice of that fact. We now await our second notice which is
essentially a 60 Day notice of Termination, after which we will receive
    our TSFO Package.

I believe the 60 tornados of my dream represent the impending 60 days
and that the last one will seem deafeningly torrential to me. Also, a
note on the last one -- I may have an opportunity(?) to stay with the
company but I'll have to move across the US, do I want to ride the
torrential winds/tornado/(digital)? I guess not since I stayed on the
    ground.

The crossroads is simple due to the fact that this is now the time for
job searching and there are so many choices. The groups of people who
greet me in the crossroads are the network and supportive people in my
life who give me moral support during this time of transition.

The two young women represent "furtile" companies who want to start a
job relationship and the flowers are the offers I am to chose from.
Flowers are from plants (and I'm leaving the ABO "Plant"); also flowers
are the highest most productive part of the plant, so I feel that the
offers will be "tasty" due to the fact that I ate them.

Still, there are some odd points:

    * Why eat the flowers and not just smell them?

    * Is the last tornado that symbolic?

    * Why did I do a U-turn with the car and "luckily" park under the
outcropping and face back towards the village?

    * Who is the village, could it be ABO?

    * Why did I nap?

This was a curious dream for me; I've had tornado dreams before and
they usually have a strong, clear message for me -- and I believe I've
nipped this one except for the few oddities mentioned above. So, if you
have any thoughts to the above I'd really be please to hear them.

    Regards,

    Anthony

I'll take a quick shot, Anthony.

> * Why eat the flowers and not just smell them?

You need to eat to stay alive. You can't go without a job.

> * Is the last tornado that symbolic?

The last is always the end.

> * Why did I do a U-turn with the car and "luckily" park under the
> outcropping and face back towards the village?

Because you follow your inner voice.

> * Who is the village, could it be ABO?

Could be. You may have already "left" despite the fact you still
	have 60 days.

> * Why did I nap?

You do not have a sense of urgency. You trust in the universe.

These are all just wild guesses that came to me very quickly and
	without a lot of "analysis".

    Hi Anthony,

In a tornado you also have no control, you just have to go with it
where ever it will bring you. Plant closures are a lot like that,
it's not in our control. Perhaps you see the chaos of the storm
as going by you but not really touching you yet, an observer but not
    a participant.

Perhaps you faced the Pueblo because it's your heritage and your roots,
if you go with the tornadoes they will take you away from your roots
here. Maybe your facing toward rather than away from the Pueblo was
a choice to stay with what you know.

Flowers can represent life, they are a symbol of rebirth since they
come again with each spring. Maybe you need renewal or this is
all bringing you toward a new birth or path, you freely accepted it
    in the dream.

    Just my random thoughs...

    Adele

1979.5More Thanks...ELMAGO::AWILLETOR U Green?Wed Aug 10 1994 13:4943
    Hi Adele,

                             - A Tornado Observer -

A tornado does indeed uproot and devastate those who are unfortunate
enough to be in it's path. In many ways the shutdown of ABO has "hit to
the gut" all of us in this facility and the initial impact of the news
still lingers in the back of our minds.

Also, the dream showed an anomaly in that several tornadoes cannot exist
so near one another and indeed won't follow the exact same path. So, I
guess this is an "organized" type of chaos. And I guess I have felt that
the chaos is around me but not in or about me; and I'll just play
observer and watch as management tries to recreate the workings of ABO in
NIO. (I kinda feel like Whoopi Goldberg's character in The Color Purple
when "Mister" is in the kitchen and attemps to cook breakfast, I believe
    there was an explosion(?))

                           - Eyes Towards the Pueblo -

Pueblo is of my heritage in that they too are Native American, however,
I'm of the Navajo people (more akin to the Apache) and the Pueblo are
considered trading partners to us. However I would feel more at ease at
a pueblo than I would in a tornado. ;') The Pueblo people have some
secret kiva teaching that I would never be allowed to learn, but I
understand that is true of many sacred beliefs around the world. (I
don't know why I shared that.) However, the basic theme I believe is that
I had fun at the Feast and enjoyed "visiting" the place.

                           - Freely Accepted Flowers -

Renewal/rebirth. That's good! I feel this is very appropriate since the
young women offering the flowers do have that capability of birth and
since they were young and of the age of consent they are inded in the
"Springtime" of their lives. And indeed, I did accept their offers.

Thanks for your thoughts, Adele, I'm even more impressed with this dream,
it seems very potent and rich with message/reaffirmation.

    Hi Anthony,

Perhaps because we had layoffs prior to the closing announcement it
would seem like more than one tornado. Just a thought, the final
one is the worse because we all go with it.

Interesting, I didn't know you are from the Navajo nation, we'll
need to talk more. Flowers also represent women in some cultures and
from what I've read I believe that the Navajo is a matriarchy. Isn't
it? It sounds like a good dream, especially since you were not harmed by
the storm but simply watched it go by. Sleep is also renewal and
can be a form of escape when things get to be too much. You were
sheltered from the storm physically by the earth and also took shelter in
    sleep (mental shelter).

We're facing some very, very stressful times. If I can find one the
blessing in closing a whole plant is the mutual support since everyone
is going through it together. When people are being layed off they
can feel more isolated; singled out and may feel some embarrassment.

Keep on dreaming.... as we all look to what is hopefully a bright
    future.

About flowers - the Bach Flower Remedies are homeopathic remedies that
work on the energy body and are used to stabilize the emotions of a
person so that clearer thinking and acting is possible. Different
flowers calm different emotions. Impatiens, for example, help to calm
an impatient person, and so on.

1979.8Wind's Childhood PlaymateELMAGO::AWILLETOR U Green?Wed Aug 10 1994 19:5444
RE: Note 1979.6 ZOLA::AHACHE "Magic happens if you let it"

Adele,

Regarding your inquiry of Navajo matriarchy, yes, it's the cultural norm
that the ancestry/inheiritance is passed down through women. If fact, my
native clanships are referenced through my mother's clan, so my clan is
her clan and my father's clan is my "born for" clan. We can talk to this
more off-line.

Thanks again for the additional insights; now I feel I need to share more
about my background and the significance of the tornado to me.

                                   * * *

My childhood home was in the suburbs of LA in Santa Fe Springs, but each
summer my parents would have me stay with my grandmother near the 4-corners
area in Crownpoint NM. My favorite things about the summers were the animals
and the landscape, I would always have something to bring back to the city
for 'show and tell'. One summer I found a pasttime which I favored and
thought to be without consequence, and that was running into dust devils or
little whirlwinds.

My grandmother said that I was only playing with "Wind's Child" and that it
shouldn't be harmful to me. (Traditional folklore says that winds like
these have both positive and negative aspects to them, that is, the wind
could 'twist' my brain and make me a lunatic or it could be a scout for me
and the wind's child would listen and tell me "what's in the air".

My mother, being protective of her son, didn't want to risk the negative and
had reprimanded me to stop running into whirlwinds. Well, not too much
after I had stopped 'playing with the wind' I had a dream of a whirlwind
chasing me. My mother told me, "See, now the wind is giving you nightmares."
However, grandma says, "No, the wind misses his playmate and they are
now friends."

                                   * * *

So, periodically I have tornado dreams. And each time these dreams come
they bring me a "Scouting Report" of what's in the air.

Thought I'd share that.

RE: Note 1979.7 TNPUBS::PAINTER "Planet Crayon"

Flowers as medicine is good. Native medicine uses many plants and herbs
for curative purposes. Some are used in the form of teas or elixers or
in powders or meals/porridges.

I wonder, what might the Back Fower Remedies consider iris, orchid or
morning glory energy restorative for, in terms of correction/healing?

(BTW, Cindy I like the combination of your name PAINTER with FLOWERS, I get
an image of Picasso's Flowers. ;') )

    Hi Anthony,

Thank you for sharing the story of your childhood play with the wind.
I too believe that the wind has a personality and that you can talk
to it. Living in New Mexico if you don't like the wind it might
drive you crazy, I don't always like the sand that comes with it
but I really enjoy standing in the wind and letting it whip through
my hair, it makes me feel that I'm free and could fly. I become the
    wind.

Thank you also for the information on the matriarchy, we'll need to
    talk more.

    Take care,

Descent through the mother is "matrilineal" descent. If a culture
were *dominated* by women, it would be a matriarchy. No such
culture is present now, nor has one been encountered by archaeologists.

The Trick is that we are part of a men-dominated culture, and see so
many other men-dominated cultures, that when we encounter a culture
that is `different', we try to just flip the dominance around. This
hasn't been a valid technique. What works has been to turn the
dominance *over* to get a parnership culture, with women and men
    working together.

    Karey,

Only on myself and an occasional friend or so, and nothing too indepth.
A few years ago I was at the house of a friend (former DEJAVUer) and
someone had brought along the card set. They're shuffled face-down,
and the person picks a card that is the best remedy for them at that
time. I picked Vervain, and everybody agreed (including myself!) that
it was the perfect one for me at the time. (;^) It worked, too. My
    friends confirmed it. (;^)

I like the Rescue Remedy creme for injuries and aches. I use Olive
and Hornbeam if I'm low on energy (these days at this place it's an
ongoing situation...), and Elm if I feel overwhelmed. Then Star-Of-
Bethelem for sadness/grief, or Rescue Remedy if called for.

I've made my own mixtures up too, but it's been some time since I
did that. My closet contains about half of the Remedies, so I haven't
    used them all personally.

The iris or the orchid wasn't in my book. The morning glory is.

It says the morning gloy is a good tonic for the entire nervous system.
With morning gloy, one breaks nervous habits such as smoking or using
opiates. Displays of nervous irritabliity, including grinding of the
teeth and jitteriness exemplitied by talking too much or restlessness
at night to the point of insomnia are all states treatable with this
    remedy.

The book states that if you are going to acupuncture or acupressure it
is good to take this before. It will help those point to be located
    easier.

This is strange because 5 weeks ago I planted morning glory in my
yard. They are climbing up my flag pole. They are almost as high as
the second story of the house.

Also I quit smoking 5 weeks ago.

The quitting smoking was a planed event.

The morning glory wasn't. It was brought to me by a friend. She gave
the me seeds and said she envisioned them growing right up my flag pole.

She said what a beautiful sight they'll be and she's right.

I would have never made the connection had I not read this book this
     morning.

Does anyone have any suggetions on making this into an essence I can
    take internally or even externally.

I really need to break this terrible habit. Last week was really
difficult. I 'almost' went back. I got new resolve and now I'm ok with
    it.

    What a nice 'coincidence'! (;^)

It was once explained to me how flower essences are made, but it's been
so long that I can only present the overall instructions - pick the
flower, put it in a clean bowl filled with spring water, set it out in
the sun, and let the energy of the flower permeate the water. The
specifics which I've forgotten, include how and when to harvest the
flower, time to leave it in the sun, and how to prepare the final
essence (involves using alcohol - brandy or something like this, and
storing it in a dark bottle).

Also, there may be parts of the flower - the morning glory - that are
poisonous that you would not want to put in the water.

The Alchemist in Hudson, Mass, might have some of this essence - they
have a lot of these things. Their number is: (508) 562-2154.

You can also stand close to the morning glory plant, hold your hands

A few mornings ago I woke early with the remembrance of a dream. This is unusual for me as of late. I turned to
my boyfriend Paul and told him the dream.....
I had been at work and my new supervisor had to tell me reluctantly that I was being TFSOed. This didn't
produce the response I'd expect in conscious life. I was rather reserved and excepting. Not me :-)
	I turned and left.
Paul listen and assured, back to sleep I drifted, back to my dream. This used to be a common experience for me,
to wake then go back to my dream. Truly a gift, in that I can review the dream, make conscious decisions on what
it meant and how to deal with it, then go back and DO it. Back to sleep...
Sure enough here I am, back at ZKO. My supervisor is there and she's asking me to come back. I don't
want to. I let her know I'm moving on.

This dream felt good. I felt my own power, I was making my own life decisions. Not much for interpretation here,
rather straight forward, but still a special dream for me. Especially with my more recent dream (& sleep)
deprivation. Hey, this wouldn't be stress related would it. Big ;-) face!

BTW: last night's dream had me in bed. There was a BIG spider crawling on my shoulder. I called to Paul
to brush it away but he couldn't see it (he really is very far-sighted :-). The spider crawled to the
front of my throat and I awoke, feeling just a LITTLE bit creepy. Also unusual since I'm not a big fan of
the 8-leggers. I would have expected to be shaking!!

Who knows????.... (maybe there really was a spider! gasp!)

love,
-pam

    re: 1979.23

Thank you for taking the time to do the research and tell us what you
found. I want to add something else I found to clear the addiction of
    smoking.

I had an ergonomic study done in my office. The person who did the
study works in health services. I mentioned that I quit smoking but was
still struggling with the addiction of nicotine. She told me about a
drug called clanadine (sp). I called my doctor to ask about it. She
didn't return my call right away. Well over the weekend I found the
herbs that make the compound clanadine. I bought it and I made the tea.
On monday morning my doctor called me and I told her about taking the
herbs. She said they make a patch of clanadine to help in quitting
smoking. She said she was all for the homeopathic method. She wants me
to let her know how it worked. The only problem is that it tastes
terrible. She said to mix it with some juice or something to make it a
little bit more platable. She also said there have been studies done that
quitting smoking is as hard to break the addicition as heroin
addictions. I don't like being addicted to anything.

I'm also going to get some of the essences and try them.

    Thank you...thank you

Do you make tinctures? I have been studying about tinctures lately.
I ordered a tincture of gingko leaves to take. I'd like to get
into where I make my own tinctures. I find this to be very intersting
    stuff.

    AW, I'm at MKO2.

And yes I do make many of my own tinctures, it's quite simple. If the
tea you are drinking is real bad you might want to make a tincture for
yourself. I'm also interested in what herbal combination you're using.
The Tincture Tree is my business name, soon to have a mail order
catalog. I've been working with herbs for the past 3 years, took
Rosemary Gladstar's apprentice course, and am close to my Bach Flower
Therapist Certification. I love tinctures for their medicinal and
spiritual effects and have had alot of fun experimenting with them.

glad to find others with the same interests!

Since this is a TFSO topic...

Does anybody know why management-types get upset when a person tries to
    volunteer to be TFSO'd?

If you'd like to answer anonymously, send your reply to me directly and
I'll post it for you w/o your header.

1979.30ABO has returned to 'people' politics -- i.e., politeness, courtesy, regard...ELMAGO::AWILLETOR U Green?Thu Aug 25 1994 14:3112
I guess it depends on the particular manager and the politics
within the facility.

I know that here, we all feel that we've been shafted by the
company -- so, with the plant being shut down, we've all
pretty much have joined forces to help each other get jobs
elsewhere (except for the few managers who are going back east).

So, regardless of the Company's focus away from the workforce
as living, breathing, *beings*; we the people, some of whom have
decided to be TFSO'd sooner (4 waves of departure) have mostly
found our managers to be accomodating.
1979.31BIGQ::GARDNERjustme....jacquiThu Aug 25 1994 19:018

Managers like to feel they are "managing". If one decides to offer
what they have been struggling over how to present to one, then the
one who offers is typically considered to be "in control" of their
environment and not the manager. Simple. Power and control issue.
