1975.0. "So Sorry Sedona" by SWAM2::SCHMAUDER_PA () Mon Jul 25 1994 19:17

    I went to Sedona, AZ this past week. I'm sure many of you have heard
    about this place.....I loved the view, the vortex - but it has become SO
    commerical it brought me to tears. We had a cabin that sat on a
    hill and as I sat there in the early morning I felt so bad for what has
    happen to the area. Every corner has a psyhic and everyone is a
    channellor (?)...and for this talent they charge you not only an arm
    and a leg but two arms and legs!!

    So sorry Sedona that we have contaminated you! What are we doing to
    this world!

1975.1Suggestions Needed for New Vacation DestinationMEMIT::LSLAVINMon Jul 25 1994 19:4410
    YUck!

    Thank you for your message, although I am disappointed because I was
    considering visiting Sedona later this summer. Guess I won't go now.

    Can anyone suggest "another Sedona?"

    Thanks!

    Lois,

    I would still go to Sedona....I would stay away from the commericalism
    by going to the vortex on your own. You can pick up a vortex map at
    any of the hotels. I would like to return someday and do that. Just
    to be in the area of that energy and mediate. It still can be a magical
    place if you want it to! I just was disappointed that the world is so
    greedy for money that they think you can "sell" spirituality.

1975.3Learning is an evolutionary process for us humans..MEMIT::LSLAVINTue Jul 26 1994 15:5511
    Yeah, "selling" spirituality is trying to use the old paradigm -- and
    therefore missing the boat on all of the other possibilities that could
    be even more enriching.

    However, thanks for your recommendation. I'll reconsider visiting Sedona.
    However, if anyone out there has other suggestions, Iwould still love
    to hear them.

    Thanks and blessings,
    Lois

1975.4yes, do go to visit SedonaTNPUBS::PAINTERPlanet CrayonWed Jul 27 1994 16:0910

    It really is lovely there, Lois. I went for the day several years
    ago. My brother and I walked around the countryside and had a great
    time. Can't remember anything specifically for you though.

    I can give you the phone number of a former DEJAVUer - John Blum - who
    knows just about all there is to know about Sedona, if you're
    interested. He lives in California. Contact me offline.

    Sedona is still very beatiful away from the commercial section, the
    commercialism is really out of place there though. There's even an
    outlet mall. Here is an area of fantastic energy and red rocks which
    take your breath away and people go there to shop. I still recommend
    it though since it's one of the most beautiful areas I've seen except
    for the grand canyon in the southwest. I live in the southwest and
    there are a lot of wonderful places without people but you also need
    to bring you own water, food, camping equipment and be ready to deal
    with the creatures (ie scorpions, snakes, spikers of various sizes,
    etc) that go with it.

    re: .1   Another Sedona...

    Try Yellow Island in the San Juan Islands of northwest Washington
    State. It is now owned by the Nature Conservancy and is not well known
    by the public. You can only reach it by boat and can not stay over
    night, but the place has spirit and is beautiful. It also has an
    interesting history.

    For a vortex, I recall visiting one in southern Oregon with my parents
    when I was young. As I recall it was near Roseburg or Grants Pass. At
    the time there was a tourist stop called "Uncanny Canyon" since closed.
    It is however a real vortex with all of the strange phenomenon that
    goes with them.

    Regards,

1975.7A beautiful area!POWDML::DUNNIGANPat Dunnigan, MLO4-1/B91Thu Oct 27 1994 15:3823
    I lived in Sedona in 1988, my sister has lived there for the last 10
    years. Several years ago they made Sedona a city, they put in town
    sewerage and have built shopping malls, large super markets, etc.
    Commercialism has taken over but the beauty of the area is
    unparalleled. Come up over the hill from Cottonwood on 89A when the
    sun is going down and the colors of the red rock are indescribable. Go
    up Snebley Hill Road and the view is breathtaking. This is the
    original road pioneers travelled from Sedona to Flagstaff to get
    supplies. It is very much the same today as it was 100 years ago,
    those were hearty souls. There are many areas off the beaten path that the tourists don't know or
    care about. The Oak Creek Canyon area about ten miles outside of town
    is beautiful.

    My sister originally moved there because of its beauty, now they are
    building a new home closer to Prescott in a more secluded area.

    Please do visit, you can't help feel the energy when you are in the
    presence of Bell Rock or the other cliffs.
