1882.2my take on the angelsSALEM::BULLFri Oct 22 1993 16:3545

Okay... I read notes 1611, and 1470.

And I guess my personal take on agnels is a lot simpler. They are messengers
and helpers and not so ethereal that we never come into actual contact with
them. I met some - here's the story.

Driving home from Hillsboro very late one night and ran outta gas. I was
seperated from my first husband for only two days then - emotionally a mess
*I* had left but was confused whether I was doing 'the right thing'.

It was late November and really cold. I was walking down the highway towards
Manchester (a good 5 miles away at least with nothing in between). Nobody
pulled over to help me for a long time. Then the pickup truck pulled over.
Two older men in hunting apparell were in the truck - there were shotguns/rifles
on the gunrack, and all kinds of hunting paraphenalia all over the bench seat.

The passenger said "That your escort back there?' I said yes. (funny part was
my escort was off a side street two exits back...) They offered me a ride and
against my upbringing and common sense I accepted it. Remember I was really
emotionally down and figured having them molest and kill me really wouldn't
be much worse than what I was going through.

So we went to the gas station, almost in silence. They bought 5 gallons worth for
me and drove me back to my escort without me giving them directions to the
out-of-the-way spot.

So while these two guys were filling my gas tank, I started talking about how
my husband was home waiting for me (I was still wearing my rings) I figured
they might let me alone that way. When the driver said "You're seperated"
And I was taken aback.

Then he went on to matter-of-factly state my marital problems. Ending it
with 'there's too much of your life to go to spend it being unhappy - there's
happiness there for you if you take it'.

They said 'have a good night, drive safe' and left. And I was completely calm,
and went on with my life never looking back. I am happily remarried and life
has improved 100%!

Now, either these were two psychic hunters giving out free advice in the middle
of the night for absolutely no reason. Or they were angels. Angels that
'earned their wings' that night!
1882.3I hope they were angels!GLDOA::TREBILCOTTI can't believe it's only WednesdayFri Oct 22 1993 16:416

You've gotta believe in angels! They are as much a part of our lives as
    air (imho).

Years back our son was critically ill for many years. We live in an old
house, and our bedroom is on the first floor in the front. Ben slept
upstairs, and in the back of the house. He would sometimes wake up in
the middle of the night and need help. For a while he could not walk
well, and could not get himself out of bed. Every single time that he
woke up and needed help I was awakened from a sound sleep, and somehow
urged to go upstairs. There were no voices, no sounds, just this
profound feeling that I should wake up and get upstairs.

Several times I came into Ben's room, and he acted as if he knew I
would be coming. It never happened that I was "awakened" and he didn't
need me. And it was very clear to me that I *must* do what I was told.

In time we became aware that events like these were becoming a part of
our lives. We would be in the right place when we were needed, or
someone would be there we needed - or we were led to do something like
go upstairs at 3:00 a.m. Angels. They were helping us through some
tough times. And they still do!

But I never saw that show, or I probably would have been much more cynical

    I have no real proof, and I believe that if anyone requires proof;
there is no believable proof available.

I have often had things happen, I have to go to work at some remote
location, I lived in Heidelberg, Germany. I was called to go to
Kitzingen, and it is about 3-4 hours away. I go for my Car keys, and I
can not find them, so I ask my wife, and her keys are not in her purse.
We search all of the house, take cushions off the chairs and couch. No
keys. Landlady comes over and we have been searching 3/4 to 1.25 hours
so we sit down to have a coffee with the landlady, and she says WHAT IS
THIS, AS SHE REACHED UNDER THE CUSHION AND THERE ARE MY KEYS.

I go on my way, and the remains of a really bad accident are being
removed from the path I drive. Would I have been the victim of the
accident? I do not know, but the time would have been about right.
This has happened many times. No keys, accident happens. Now if
I have a problem, I just look for the other possibilities.

1882.8Angels in our everyday lifeAIMHI::SEIFERTTue Oct 26 1993 15:5330
Too many of us in the world are doubting Thomas's. We always need some
freak accident to prove to ourselves that angels do exist.
I too had as very serious accident when I was 18 yrs old in which I
spent 3 1/2 months in the hospital and 2 yrs in recovery. The doctors
couldn't believe that I lived. I too was amazed that I lived and I
think I owe a lot to a special angel.

We are pretty greatful when our angels protect us from harm but how
many of us use them in our daily lives.

I have an angel card on my desk and I try to live my life on daily
    basis with these intentions.

Know all the possiblities of you impossible dream -- Leave space
in your relationships so you'll have losts of romm to play -- Be
yourself -- Forgive, forget, and forge ahead -- It's easier to fly when
you take yourself lightly -- Reach out and touch someone lightly with
your wings -- Love is the only fourletter word you ever need to know --
Whenever you hear a bell, another angels has earned their wings so give
them a smile -- Cry during sad movies, it is really ok --- Don't
postpone joy to scrub the bathroom or clean the garage -- Always love
Mother Earth -- Whenever you feel afraid get a box of crayons -- Carry
a spare set of wings in you pocket so you can fly -- Wherever you go ,

    OK a true tale.

It was just after midnight on a particularly stormy winter's night when
the car ran out of fuel stranding the unfortunate woman in a rather
isolated wood miles from anywhere on a minor road with little traffic.
To further complicate things she had no raincoat.

She rather reluctantly got out of the car and began walking. She had
not gone but a few yards when she saw headlights coming towards her.
Without any signaling from her the car stopped and the driver inquired
if she was requiring help, she explained her plight and he told her to
get in. He than turned his car round and drove several miles back the
way he had come from to an all night filling station.

There he lent her enough money to hire a fuel can and buy some fuel,
then he drove her back to her car, put the fuel in the tank for her and
    wished her a good journey.

Sounds like an angel? Nope, just me finishing a late call out to a sick
    computer.

Your behavior was very charitable, Jamie, but the account leaves out
the critical details which make an "angel story": there were no
highly improbable coincidences, such as you knowing all about her
marital status, or having a spare woman's raincoat of exactly the
right size in your car, or whatever. Details such as this are what
cause normally skeptical people to wonder what's going on, as opposed
to accepting the event as a "lucky, but ordinary" phenomenon.

But *every* event can be seen as either/both "ordinary" or "extra-
ordinary", at the free choice of the observer. Perhaps in some cases,
it may be advantageous to select the "extraordinary" interpretation.

Oh, and maybe, of course, you're really an angel :-). Denying it will
  get you nowhere :-).

One thing, that she pointed out just as I left her, we did not pass a
single car on the way to or from the filling station. I then watched
and I didn't see another vehicle until I got to the main road. So if I
hadn't happened along that route, purely by chance as I was not on my
normal way home from the office, she would have had one long wet walk.

While it will take a lot more that that to convince me I'm angelic she
    might be easier to persuade.

I've been thinking about this angel business...

I'm pretty sceptic, as you know, but I have an open mind, and on the
subject of angels, I'm intrigued as opposed to dismissive. There's a
think called fate, and often we believe it shapes events in our lives.
When something awful happens, or we're disappointed about something
either not happening or happening, how many times has this turned out
to be for the best in the end? For me, lots of times... I recently
joked about a guardian angel looking after me, and I have a good friend
who firmly believes that each of us has our own guardian angel. He
claims to have met his, but that's another story...

    Laurie.
1882.18Was it God or an angel?GLDOA::TREBILCOTTI can't believe it's only WednesdayThu Oct 28 1993 12:5561
From the time I was very young, the Catholic upbringing I had included
guardian angels. I even have a little gold pin that is a little angel.
You're supposed to wear it on your collar. Mine actually sits at home
    on my dresser.

I don't think I've ever believed in guardian angels. Funny, because I
believed in everything else they told me. I guess in the scope of
things, angels ranked pretty far down the list, after God, the saints,
    miracle, etc...

Oh, I think I just figured it out.

Miracles were performed by God according to what I was tought, so when
anything happend that was extra-ordinary or very good, I attributed it
    God.

I just remembered a story that to this day has be totally baffled.
    It's totally true though.

A couple of years back I was in dire financial straights. My father
had given me a keepsake that was a holy relic. Father Solanus Casey is
a Detroit priest who died and whom the church is trying to have
cannonzed as a saint. This relic I was given included a piece of his
    robe.

    Okay, enough background.

I needed gas and it was Monday. I couldn't make it til Thursday and I
only had a dollar in my purse. When I reached in to pull it out, the
relic was attached to it and another dollar appeared. So I went in and
paid the two dollars, hoping it would be enough to get me through until
payday. When I returned to my car I had almost a half a tank of gas.
I had been on REALLY EMPTY! I couldn't believe it!! I looked at the
relic and thought, "Hmmm, I wonder."

That weekend I went grocery shopping and knew I could only get very few
things. AS I walked up and down the aisles, I thought how nice it
would be to have english muffins and yogurt and a few other things, but
I decided I didn't have enough so I just got basics. When I pulled out
my checkbook to pay for the food the relic came out with it. I though,
"How strange I really must move that." When I got to the car to put my
groceries, I looked puzzled because something I couldn't put my finger
    on didn't seem right.

I carried the groceries into my apartment and as I was unpacking them I
found an extra bag. In it: English muffins, yogurt, meat for stew, a
candy bar, and everything else I wished I could afford!

I checked my bill and I had been charged for none of the items! There
was no one in front of me in the store either so it isn't that I got
    someone else's bag by accident!

I pulled out the relic and stared at it. I was convinced!

To this day I can't figure it out but I think it was someone looking
out for me. At the time I attributed it to God, but now I
wonder...maybe it was a guardian angel?

I still carry the relics around but I don't count on them for miracles.

>I still carry the relics around but I don't count on them for miracles

I think angels and such work best when we are not asking or depending on them
to help us. It is when we are in need and doing our best to take care of our
own problems when the angels seem most likely to lend a hand.

As for Jamie being an angel, nice as he is I doubt it BUT, I would not for a
moment doubt that an angel fuzzled with the computer he was called out to fix.
After all, it is really easy to make things seem coincidental if you know
enough about the course of events. Synchronicity is not always an aberration
we just don't have the vision to see the connections.

I believe the show was meant to be informative and uplifting, but boy
oh boy I found it emotional. The pieces of Tara and Mallory were
especially difficult for me to view. It was a real test of my belief.
I was surprised at my reaction of sorrow and loss for these two
beautiful people, who intellectually I know are in a better place, and
as the show illustrated, were sent angels to assist them. Still, I
felt pain for them and their families.

The directive to the painter about painting 2000 angels before
the year 2000 I found interesting, in light of certain prophesies
which claim the 2000 signals the beginning of the end of this era
on earth (covered in other notestrings).

Michael Crichton also used that line in his autobiography entitled
"Travels". It's an excellent book to get for your skeptical friends.
(;^) Especially the last chapter of the book.

He used the example that if you told someone who had never seen an
airplane that the silver bird flying in the sky contained lots of
people, they would probably laugh. There would be no way to prove it
in that situation. But take that same person to an airport, and no

    Probably in NOTES :-)

I, too, was very emotionally affected by the sure. I'm sure that's the
reaction the producers were looking to get. I thought that finally here
is a show that, to me, didn't decide one way or the other, but left it
up to the viewer to make a decision on belief. It did seem to favor
existence of angels and demons, but didn't really decide. THe stories
were about people who truly believe and it was honest without being
denegrating to the believers and nonbelievers. IMHO of course. Patty
Duke did seem to come down on the side of the angels. :-)
