1832.0. "In Search of the Lost Grail" by UNYEM::JEFFERSONL (Have you been tried in the fire?) Mon May 03 1993 17:43

What is a Holy Grail? The only Grail I know of is the one drank from
at his last supper. This peticular Grail I'm speaking about is a book
that possibly comes in three parts, but was recently made into one.
What is this book about? Where did it come from? Why is it?

Hi Lorenzo. You probably mean Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It's been
discussed somewhere in this conference, I think. I've only read the
first book in the series, and it was pretty entertaining, although very
sensational and real light on solid facts and references (in my opinion
-- but see below).

The basic premise of the series is that, based on "overwhelming
evidence" found in a small area in Southern France, together with lots
of slim historical clues pieced together in a zippy style, Jesus did
not die on the cross, but escaped to Southern France and bore offspring
whose descendants are alive today. The authors drag in everything from
the Illuminati to the Carolingian dynasty in "support" of their thesis.

Highly entertaining, but lacking in solid facts (again, my opinion).
Clearly intended to sell lots of copies by shocking folks of
traditional Christian thinking, and titillating folks who like to shock
normal Christian folks.

Regarding "the facts", I started to check out some of their
"references" (most of which were in French and supposedly located in
France -- conveniently putting off most skeptics). I was able to
confirm bits and pieces which didn't materially support their claims,
but which gave an air of credibility by showing that the authors "did
their homework". The bits which were really essential to support their
claims were either apparently nonexistent (possibly having been totally
made up), or, if they did exist, were inaccessible, being in "secret
archives" of "secret societies" like the Freemasons, Rosicrucians, etc.
I was able to find nothing which solidly supported their claims. Not
that I felt like having people waste several months doing useless
searches through obscure libraries in little towns in France, but,
well, you get the idea.

This is not about the book, but another story about Jesus had him
living out his life in India. As the previous noter says, who can prove
such things, but he supposedly had a family there. Also, he is said to
have a burial tomb there. Jesus was said to have spent time traveling
India before he studied with the Essenes (or in conjunction with his
studies). This was between his youth and the age of 30.

I have heard the same story also. In fact, there is a book written by
a German scholar that documents a lot of "proof". If anyone is
interested, I can try and get a copy of it and post some examples
    here!!

1832.5I heard it's the bloodline...GLDOA::TREBILCOTTbdatft!Tue May 04 1993 22:299
I have read the book mentioned in reply #2, also found it entertaining,
and was under the impression that some people believe that the Grail
itself is actually the holy bloodline...the bloodline that Jesus
carried on because he did not die, but lived, had children...

That is another theory...the Grail is not a cup per se, but a
    bloodline...

1832.6"Jesus lived in India"CLARID::CHARLESTue May 11 1993 10:5310
The book is called "Jesus lived in India", and it is written by a
German clergyman (think his name is Holger Kersten). The author
seems to have become dis-enchanted with church doctrine and I believe
    "cover-ups" of evidence.

I think the basenoter is referring to the book which was the object
looked for in the movie "Warlock", which was released a few years ago.
There is a note, probably started by me and which Steve Kallis relied
to. This is most likely what you are looking for.

Do a search on Warlock and you should see it.

I found it, the book is really called a Grimoire, I couldn't remember
    before. The note is 1419.

    I thought Warlock was about _The_Grand_Grimoire_ ?
I seem to remember a sort of corrupted reverse kabbalistic invocation
that speaking the mythical Holy name backwards would 'uncreate' the world.

What is the connection to the Holy Grail ? Did they weave that into
the movie plot somehow, or was that supposed to be the subject of
    the historical _Grand_Grimoire_ ?

    Todd,

Sorry something happened to my reply (.12) to your question.

I thought the basenoter might have been givcen the wrong name. The
Grand Grimoire was a book that supposedly came in three parts. That,
and the fact that they both start with G gave me the idea that it was
    the Grimoire they really meant.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have explained that in my note on .10

Or maybe the letters in the Hebrew translation of Grail and Grimoire both
add up to the same total ... ? Must have that trusty Latin to Hebrew
gematria dictionary around here somewhere ... <fumble> ...
