1751.0. "dream interpretation request" by ROCKS::SHARMA () Fri Oct 16 1992 14:53

Hi, can someone please help me interpret this dream; I had this a
    couple of days ago.

In this dream, I am lying in my bed and as I move to a semi-sitting
position resting my back against a couple of pillows against headboard,
I see a tortoise on the quilt, next to my right knee. My legs are
inside the quilt and tortoise is on the quilt. This worries me and I
slow down my movements; tortoise looks on, mischievously. As I straighten
up, the tortoise gets up on all fours and runs (it really shifted)
    behind my back.

Next I felt it gripping my lower back with all fours. I am more
worried. My backache seems to be feeling better, however; I normally
have a little discomfort in my lower back. Tortoise's grip is firm and
each time I try to pull it away a little by holding its shell, it
tightens the grip further. This leads to minor scratches on my back,
there is some blood drawn or is it perspiration? I don't know. I wake
up in a reasonably pleasant mood.

I am sure this dream is trying to tell me something but what?

Thanks for you help in advance.

    What does the tortoise symbolize?

A turtle can mean Mother Earth and your connection to mother earth, the need
to be grounded. I am just responding to what turtles can mean in the native
sense, and not specifically your dream. There are some more knowledgable
dream people here.

What do turtles mean to you?
1751.4personal symbolsGBMMKT::MERRITTThu Oct 22 1992 12:3310
Basically the best way to look at the symbol is to determine what
a turtle represents to you. A turtle moves slowely, and in a way
carries it's house on it's back. Dwellings have been considered our
consciousness. You mentioned you had back problems. Perhaps
your conscious mind is weighing you or slowing you down and it
is time to let the unconscious carry you, rather than you carry
your conscious (worry, anxiety, thoughts), etc.

It is interesting that you are on a bed which is the place for sleep
and dreams where one's unconscious does dominate.

I agree with the previous noter about what the turtle
means to you, it's a personal thing. However, most
dreams that we remember are a way of our sub-conscious
trying to impress a message on us, and it does that
by creating an image that you will remember, for
example, in this case, a turtle moves very slowly,
and you said that in the dream it was very swift,
so that way you will be impressed as to how quickly
the turtle moved, and you will remember the dream.

Most dreams try to convey simple messages, and this
is the way I look at it.

Once you determine what the turtle means to you,
then that is the cause of your back problem, if you
try to remove the cause by physical means (you grabbing
the turtle and trying to pull it off), it will cause
more pain and even bloodshed, and it won't solve the
problem (in your dream, you couldn't remove the turtle
by trying to pull it off and it made it more painful).

I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THIS...ALOT OF DREAM TYPE
FILES BUT ALL OF THEM OLD AND NO RECENT ADDITIONS. THIS DREAM DOESN'T
    NEED ANY ANALYSIS.....

ALSO, I'M PUTTING IT HERE COZ I WANT TO SHARE IT WITH PERWESH AND CAN'T
GET MY BRAIN TO WORK OUT HOW TO MAIL....

IT HAPPENED A FEW YEARS AGO WHILE I WAS TRAVELLING AND GOING THROUGH A
VERY AWARE PHASE. I WAS IN FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, WORKING IN
A SMALL HOTEL (IN OZ "HOTELS" ARE PUBS, USUALLY WITH A COUPLE OF BARS
AND ROOMS UPSTAIRS). THIS ONE WAS A TYPICAL OLD COLONIAL STYLE, BUILT
ON A CORNER, WITH A WOODEN VERANDAH RUNNING ALONG THE TWO STREET FACING
SIDES OF THE BUILDING,WITH GLASS DOORS INTO EACH OF THE ROOMS.
I WAS BASICALLY A CHAMBERMAID, STARTING AT ABOUT 7AM, CLEANING THE
ROOMS, BTHROOMS ETC. WE USED TO HAVE REGULARS WHO WOULD COME DOWN FOR
A COUPLE OF DAYS R & R FROM STATIONS UPCOUNTRY, OR MINES ETC..

I HAD A DREAM THAT I COULDN'T OPEN ONE OF THE STREET FACING DOORS, AND
THAT I RAN AROUND ONTO THE VERANDAH AND TRIED TO GET IN THAT WAY. I
COULDN'T OPEN THOSE DOORS ANYWAY. THE SENSE OF PANIC WAS - AT THIS
STAGE - UNFOUNDED, BUT IT WAS IMPERATIVE THAT I GET INTO THE ROOM. I
THEN RAN ROUND TRYING TO GET SOMWONE TO HELP ME, BUT NO ONE WOULD
LISTEN AND THEN RAN ONTO THE VERANDAH AGAIN TO SEE, THROUGH THE GLASS
DOORS, (WHICH WERE BOTTLE BOTTOM WIGGLY GLASS), A GUY CLIMBING ONTO A
CHAIR, ATTACHING A ROPE FROM THE LIGHT FITTING AND STARTING TO HANG
HIMSELF. HALF OF HIS FACE WAS BLACK AND I COULD SEE HE HAD A MOUSTACHE.
AT THIS POINT, I RAN DOWN THE STAIRS, TO THE PAYPHONE WHICH
DIDN'T WORK AND THEN I WOKE UP.

I TOLD VARIOUS FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES ABOUT THIS DREAM AND ANYWAY IT
WAS DISTURBING BUT NO BIG DEAL REALLY.

TWO DAYS LATER, I STARTED WORK, AND WALKED DOWN THE CORRIDOR WHICH RAN
PARRALLEL TO THE VERANDAH. I FELT VERY UNEASY AND NERVOUS. I PUT MY
KEY INTO ROOM 10'S LOCK TO FIND THAT IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I SUSPECTED THAT
THE OCCUPANT HAD DEADLOCKED THE DOOR AS HE WAS STILL SLEEPING.

(OH, BY THE WAY, ROOM 10 IS OPPOSITE ROOM 15 WHICH WAS THE ROOM IN MY
DREAM. ROOM 10 DID NOT OPEN UP ONTO THE VERANDAH)

ABOUT AN HOU LATER I WENT BACK TO ROOM 10, OPENED THE DOOR TO SEE A MAN
LYING SEMI FETAL ON THE BED, HIS RIGHT EYE HNGING OUT ON HIS
CHEEK,BLACK POWDER BURNS ON HALF HIS FACE, AND HIS BRAINS HANGING OUT.
    HE ALSO HAD A MOUSTACHE

THE GUN HE HAD SHOT HIMSELF WITH WAS STILL IN HIS HAND.

I RAN DOWN THE STAIRS, TO THE PAYPHONE, AND IT DIDN'T WORK.....

NATURALLY THIS WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, BUT I GOT REALLY FREAKED OUT
BY THIS, ESPECIALLY WHEN RECEPTION TOLD ME THAT HE HAD ORIGINALLY
CHECKED INTO ROOM 15 THE PREVIOUS DAY AND THEN CHANGED TO A CHEAPER
ROOM WITHOUT THE VERANDAH. THEN IT GOT WORSE, - THE POLICE FOUND A
ROPE IN HIS BAGGAGE AND ESTIMATED THAT HE HAD BEEN DEAD FOR 12 HOURS.

SO WHY HADN'T THE DOOR OPENED ? I WISH I COULD'VE TAKEN MY PREMONITION
SERIOUSLY AND TALKED TO THE GUY.

A couple of wierd recent dreams......any ideas ?

I went to a party (I drove there in my car and parked it in a
multistory carpark). It was in a really big house, like no where I've
ever been, and there were loads of dogs which kept trying to jump up at
me. I walked through a room full of people smoking (actually dreamed of
smoking a spliff-now THAT was wierd!) and through it into a garden. In
this garden there was a trench dug into the ground, with several people
in it, laughing and enjoying themselves. (this was an L shaped pit). I
climbed down and peered round the corner at the people, and saw among
other my ex boyfriend and his new (well, renewed) girlfriend. I
panicked as soon as I saw her and started trying to climb out of the
pit. This proved to be nigh on impossible, and I just got really muddy.

Last night I dreamed I'd got really drunk and staggered round to this
person's house. I knocked on the door and then staggered around the
corner to try and compise myself to look sober. It was awful! I
couldn't stand, I couldn't keep my eyes open....then some really wierd
things happened which I won't go in to, but I actually thought, in my
dream "But this can't be happeneing, you're not really here. Shurely
I'm dreaming?" I managed to control it a for a while after that, but
not very well. Later on I found myself at DEC (well that's what I knew
it was). I remember going into a room with terminals in, and who should
turn up but Barry Howard and Barry Mackenzie. Barry M had died his hair
black, and Barry H had his in the wierdest style I've ever seen!
Then, heading back to the library I had to get in a lift, but I got on
top of it by accident (???!!) and nearly got crushed by the ceiling. I
managed to get off the lift just in time, but hit a florescent light of
the way down. My legs got covered with small glass shards, and I just
pushed them further into my legs by trying to brush them off. I woke up
at this point, panting away like anything, and actually had to check my
legs to see if they were okay!!! I could still feel the pain, just
    fading away...
