I believe the Green Party will make tremendous political gains in
Europe this year and will firmly establish themselves in Great Britian.

The big surprise will the establishment of a Green Party in the U.S.
    ... starting in California.

We should begin to see results within the year.

    Hi Mary,

I believe the Green Party has already been established in the U.S.
I remember attending a talk given by Louisa Poole a couple of years ago
where she mentioned her participation in this activity. Perhaps Don
Reinke (who also attended the lecture) remembers the details of what
she had to say. I vaguely recall her saying that the government was
watching her because of it (darn, my hazy memory again)!!

The Green Party is also established in several countries here in Europe.
I don't think they will make much of a chance in the UK, though, because of
the election system there.

But in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium (I believe) and Austria, they are
in parliament, and have been influencial in several important cases.

What has the so-called Green party got to do with DEJAVU ? I'm not sure
why this was entered in this conference but as it's here ...

  > ... it has to be said that the Green Party in the U.K. is not able to
  > play the same role as they play in other countries because it's
  > impossible to get the Green Party candidates elected.

This is generally true. It would help if there were a few more competent
*people* in the party and a few less hypocritical politicians. The reason
why the Greens aren't elected has less to do with PR than with the lack
of cohesion, confidence and competence of the candidates. [ Perhaps we
should have a new note on an example of the latter which is somewhat
closer to this conference - David Icke, son of god II. ]

  > Without being elected it's very difficult to persuade people that you
  > can actually do a good job and that there is an important job to be done.

This is generally not true. The people who care, the ones who act, the
ones who awaken consciousness have not been - and would not *want* to be -
elected. The true leaders do so by example and by dissemination of
information - regardless of the quotes in .0, Porritt is an excellent
example of this type. Greenpeace & FoE membership is doing well at the
moment because of their proven ability, integrity and dedication. Find
me one reasonably sized political party in any country that can begin
to match the above for realistic long distance vision and self*less*
action and I'll truly be amazed.

IMHO there is infinitely more good to be gained by enlightening the other
[human] inhabitants of our planet and learning to grow together than by
pratting around with yet another bunch of self-seeking political maggots.
It doesn't matter if the enlightenment comes about as a result of global
literacy, technological developments enabling cheap communication or by
everyone sitting in a circle going "Ommmm" to raise Gaia consciousness
AS LONG AS IT HAPPENS. The presence of a group of failed left/right/mor
politicians who whinge about electoral systems rather than concentrating
on the _real_ problems only hinders this advance.

[ FWIW the matter of PR has been done to death in various incarnations of
the Euro Forum and Great Britain conferences. The Green party has been
mentioned there as well. Other related conferences are CSSEUK::GREEN
(the concept, not the party) and TOWNS::ENVIRONMENTAL_ISSUES. If people
wish to continue with this here could it please be moved to the Arena
topic ... in the same way that a stray spark should be moved into a petrol
  can ... :-) ]

1447.6This belongs here.CGVAX2::PAINTERAnd on Earth, cooperation...Thu Apr 04 1991 19:4311

The connection to DEJAVU is that we've 'been there before' (Atlantis,
etc.), and that if we don't become more conscious about our selves and
the planet, then we're going to be there again.

But with the kind of awareness that this topic and others is bringing
to similarly-minded people, we can raise the level of consciousness and
positive action such that we can create a far better place than what
we've currently got and are headed toward.

OK, that's great. Sorry, I misinterpreted the base note.

1447.10The Earth's time has come..DICKNS::STANLEYWhat a long strange trip it's been...Fri Apr 05 1991 13:1012
Sounds like a good idea, Marcos.

Actually,... I'm not concerned with how we save the Earth... as long as
    we do it.

Either the mainstream political parties become champions of the
environment, or some new party (like the Greens) will do it for them
and they may find themselves obsolete.

This is the time of the Earth. Go with the flow or get swept away.

    :-)

Its like being carried by a flash flood, todd.

One can thrash around and fight the current, getting banged about by
refuse ... or one can determine the direction of the current and ride
it like a wave..navigating as best one can.

Either way.. we end up downstream... it's the condition we find ourselves
in when it's over that makes the difference.

The Earth is in trouble and we are going to save her. There may be
difficulties along the way.. but we will deal with them as they come up
    as best we can.

One way or another though... twenty years from now ... we will find
ourselves downstream... with the Earth in recovery mode... and the
societies of Earth adapting to the new, non-destructive ways of doing
    and being.

This planet is our home and we cannot survive without her.... and at
this point, she can not survive without us... without our help. Everything
    else takes a lower priority.

So grab a raft, ole buddy... we're in for a heck of a ride.
