1434.0. "Looking for ASTROLOGY programs ..." by SEGUR::HAUKINGHAM () Mon Mar 11 1991 14:30

I am looking for ASTROLOGY programs that run on PC or VAX

I went through the notefiles and saw few references to ASTROLOGY programs.

The problem is that replies are quite old (more than a year !) and as I am not
in USA I can't access BBS.

Bill Keefe gave me a pointer to ASTROL which runs on PC and VAX.
It is a nice program but I would like to have colour features.

I have heard of ASTRO50 from David Rice (note 808.13), does anyone have its copy
or an updated version ?

Don't hesitate to post replies to my note if you use other ASTROLOGY programs
that I can copy.

Regards
THierry

"Planetarium" and "Starshow" I've read reviews on, but
haven't used. I'll see if I can dig up the reviews and
	company names.

1434.3Great Astrology ProgramSMEGIT::EBERTFri Mar 15 1991 18:1824
The best astrology program on the market is Bluestar professional. It
does every calculation imaginable, transit, progression, siddeal,
tropical, etc. etc.. The company that puts it out is Matrix Software
they specialize in astrology and new age software e.g. numberology,
    chinese horoscope, taot, etc.

If Bluestar professionalis more then you want in functionality and in
price ($300). There are many other astrology programs to choose from,
including less sophiciated versions of Blue Star.

Many of the programs they sell complement each other. The a few really
great report writers that give a full 30 page astrological profile for a
chart - right down to aspects. Another report writer gives a complete
    compatability profile for two people.

The programs could be a little more user friendly but their
    functionality can't be beat.

    Matrix Software 616-796-2483.

    Ever So lightly,

    RE: .0

When you say PC, I assume you mean the IBM personal computer? If so,
there are a number of astrology packages that you can consider, one of
them being the aforementioned Bluestar from Matrix (Tel #
1-800-PLANETS). There is a company on Cape Cod called Astrolabe (TEL #
1-800-896-5081) that markets the package NOVA, which is supposed to be
very good. I am looking at purchasing a MAC right now, and will probably
also purchase Time Cycles' Graphic Astrology package. (Tel #
1-203-444-6641) This package has one of the easiest to read chart
wheels available. In fact, many of the astrological publications use TC's
    chart wheels for their illustrations.

You could try contacting a company called Microcycles. They advertise
as the world's largest astrological software dealer. Their number is
1-800-8-CYCLES, and they carry catalogs for all the software houses.

    Hope this helps.

	 re: .1, .2

	 P_N curtesy of Geddy Lee.

I'm still digging through 4yrs+ back-issues of PCMag. Sounds
like the info provided in previous replies might be a better
starting off point, or at least more current.

Man, I picked up a book called "Celestial BASIC", which was
suppose to provide all kinds of executable astological
programs -- it provided listings. None of the code ran as
advertised and conversion to other computers/languages has
proved too much of a pain to persue. Thought I'd mention
that caveat JIC that thought had crossed your mind.

1434.7Mods to ASTROL on a VAX anyone?DCOPST::BRIANH::NAYLORKnowledge is naught without wisdomThu Aug 27 1992 20:256
I pulled across the ASTROL program and it does most of what I'm looking
for as a starting point. However, has anyone in here modified the
program at all to calculate planetary midpoints? I'm also looking for
calculations for the Topocentric system if anyone has them.

    Thanks,	Brian

The registered version ASTROLDL calculates midpoints.
Perhaps the shareware version 95 too, but I'm not sure of that.
By the way, ASTROL95 has more improvements, compared with the version
I saw here, and has much nicer screen display.

Years ago I wrote a program that used the topocentric house system, but
it still was on an old Tandy4 machine running under Newdos operating
system. And you are not going to ask me to type in here all those
    calculations, aren't you ?

I'm afraid this was not that helpfull ?

1434.9Could you not upload prog?FORTY2::CADWALLADERReaping time has come...Fri Aug 28 1992 10:137
Guido,

Surely the file you wrote must be in ASCII - couldn't you upload it
(or get someone else to upload it) to a public area for anyone interested to
copy. They could then extract the formulae from the program themselves?

1434.10more ....DCOPST::BRIANH::NAYLORKnowledge is naught without wisdomFri Aug 28 1992 12:0715
.9 sounds interesting, but for us non-progammer types ...... we need it
to follow the KISS principle or at least have a comprehensive set
    of instructions!

Where on the net does the ASTROL95 s/w reside?

And for my next question - does anyone know of a good source for an
astrocartography program? That stuff is SO hard to fill out using a
calculator ..... (well, a spreadsheet, actually, but still complex).
Incidentally, I personally don't believe that the Placidus-based astro
cartograhy system is correct as some of the assumption about the
regions above or below the Arctic/Antarctic circles are highly
    questionable.

    re.9
Unfortunately my pc is not able to read the old diskettes (other
operating system). I will have a look for another way, but there
is very little time for the moment.
    Concerning astrol95, see pixel::ibmpc_shareware, note 1165. Only,
it is not the latest version of shareware they are speaking about
there. If I remember well, it was astrol94 (ega instead of vga,
and less possibilities). Astrol95 must be somewhere on BBS, but I
    cannot trace anymore where.

Doesn't do me any good, I'm afraid, as I only have a VAX to work with.
