1408.0. ""Blue Moon " by WLDWST::GUILLEN () Thu Jan 03 1991 04:39

Did anyone catch the "Blue Moon"? I read that it will appear
again in 2009. Is there a meaning to this "Blue Moon".
Some say it is a symbol of peace. I sure hope so it will
be nice to have a peaceful 1991. Happy New year everyone!!
Does anyone know of the supersticisons that go with a
    "Blue Moon?"........

Yes, I saw the beautiful, full moon - it was enormous.
According to note 46 of the LPDSCI::ASTRONOMY conference,
the next "blue moon" will occur on August 31, 1993. That
will be the next month that will contain *two* full moons.

From my location in Philadelphia, the "blue" moon was big,
beautiful, bright orange, and awe-inspiring. I think someone mentioned
to me that it actually appeared blue in Colorado Springs.

    RE: next blue moon

The next blue moon, as stated, is in August 1993 however the next
blue moon on New Year's Eve will be in 2009. As for an esoteric
meaning for this blue moon, I haven't heard any. All I know is
that I didn't sleep well for a couple of nights.

For those who don't know what a blue moon is....when there are two
full moons in the same month, the second full moon is called a blue
    moon.

Here in Maine the Blue Moon night was overcast, foggy,
and misting. Just the same I took this as an opportunity to smuge my
house. Thankfully It was warm enough (above freezing) for me to have
    windows and doors open.

    bonnie,

Smudge is a dried bunch of herbs tied to a stick and lit like you
might light incense and the smoke is used to cleanse and purify the
aura or energy of a person or object. The common herbs used are sage,
cedar, and sweetgrass and I believe the practice originated with the
native american culture indigenous to N. America.

Yes, Toddy, there is a blue moon....

.....at least there was one in Colorado Springs on New Year's eve.
There's a group of hardy souls here who climb Pikes Peak every New
Year's eve and set off fireworks at midnight. (They look like little
Barbie doll fireworks from here.) It was a crystal clear night, no
clouds or haze at all, the stars were gorgeous and I saw the New Year
in on the deck of a friend's house sipping champagne and watching the
fireworks over the peak and the blue-tinted blue moon overhead. It was
    quite an experience. :-)

Blue moons are favored by witches (I didn't catch why)....

Positive thoughts are produced by blue moons....

    re: .8, Nanci,
I discovered that I was just watching at the wrong time.
Later at night, the moon did apparently take on a blue-grey
tone here as well, according to my moon-watching sources.

I think I would have rather been there sipping champagne and
watching fireworks, sounds like fun. Maybe next year ! :-)
