| 26th Annual Rock Swap
Gilsum, New Hampshire
Saturday and Sunday
June 23-24, 1990
One of the few towns in New England with a heritage in
mining and minerals, Gilsum has been blessed by nature
with scenery and minerals in abundance. The town
history, written in the 1880's, noted that, "after a
shower, the village street ... is noticeably red with
innumerable garnets of the finest guality, but so
minute as to be unavailable to the jeweler." The
roads are paved now, but Gilsum's identifying marks
can still be seen in the famous Stone Arch Bridge
south of the village - a structure held up by the
shape of its stones and containing no mortar
whatsoever.
Sponsored by Gilsum Recreation Committee for the
benefit of Gilsum Recreation programs:
ROCK HOUNDS - Treasure is to be found whether with hammer
and knapsack, or by browsing through rows of tables with
beautifully set jewelry, or rough just-dug rocks, for
purchase or swap.
MINE MAPS - Locating over 60 inactive mines are available
for the more adventurous collectors.
TRAIL BLAZERS - Bear Den Geological State Park has pot
holes and huge boulders 200-million years old, is a
remnant of the ice age and is of interest to everyone.
NATURE LOVERS - All this to be seen in a setting rich with
numerous species of mosses, lichens and ferns, areas
carpeted with wintergreen, majestic beeches, oaks and
birches, and that rare commodity, pure mountain air.
CAMERA ENTHUSIASTS - Scenic jewels are here, there, and
everywhere, from our small New England town to the
Ashuelot River Gorge, with every turn in the road a new
vista of nature.
FOR EVERYONE - A little prospecting fever, with a touch of
Country Fair flavor, and a dash of Old Home Day atmosphere
and you'll have something like the feeling you'll
experience on Rock Swap days.

starting at 8:00 AM
