1270.0. "A reality shift" by CRUISE::CFEUERSTEIN (Why is there air?) Mon Jun 04 1990 15:16

I have had an experience on Friday night that I have to tell
someone. First, let me say that I am within the society's
definition of normalacy. Although, a few of the people that
    know me might argue...

Anyway, I have had a reality shift. I was laying on the couch
watching the sports on the local news. I saw a picture of
Larry Bird and Bob Lowvell (sp?) was saying Larry Bird has
been traded to Portland for Clyde Drexler. OK, I said. Seems
to be a reasonable trade. I'll check it out in the morning and
went to bed. Well, everyone I talked to did NOT hear that. No
newspaper reported it (I even bought other varieties to check).
Needless to say, it did not happen in this reality. But it did
happen in the reality in which I went to bed on Friday night.

This raises a question or two. Basically, is the reality we go to
sleep at night the SAME reality in which we wake? This has happened
to me in the past, but with only smallo things. Things that didn't
really matter, in which I was able to easily convince myself it
was a matter of memory. But this last episode, I really paid attention
to, it really mattered since I am a die-hard Celtics fan.

There is no stress in my life that really matters. Just the day to day
stuff. I am not going crazy. I consantly ask my self if I am.
There is no other reasonable explanation. I went through a
    reality shift.

Hi Craig,

There are lots and lots of books on this subject from noted physicists
to metaphisical types. A recent novel by Richard Bach titled _One_
discusses this in some detail. Some QM folks talk about parallel
universes and some philosophers (P.D. Ouspensky for one) dig into it
a bunch. Since you are a "die-hard" Celtics fan, perhaps, at each
game, you can jump to the reality in which they are the winner :-)...

   > This raises a question or two. Basically, is the reality we go to

Actually, the reality we are in *now* isn't the same as the one we
will be in in the next instant. The world as we know it, ends every
second. Then again, all there is now - perhaps there are just a lot
   of alternate "nows"...

1270.2Maybe a future event?AIADM::MALLORYI am what I amMon Jun 04 1990 15:426

Maybe you have a gift that you are unaware of. Let's see if that trade
    actually happens in the future.

I have had this happen to me also. It's usually just little things.
Something that I believed was true is no longer true or vice-versa.
It's never anything along the lines of what the base noter has
suggested. The feeling is similar to the feeling one gets experiencing
dejavu (as opposed to DEJAVU :-) ). One just seems to remember
    something that isn't real.

Of course, and this isn't to suggest that what the basenoter has said
didn't happen, the person might have heard the announcement wrong and
it might have been a rumored trade possibility. One never knows. It has
been said that there is a hell of a great universe next door so maybe.

1270.5Its called 'cross-over'.HKFINN::STANLEYWhat a long strange trip its been...Tue Jun 05 1990 14:2411

Reality is interesting, isn't it Craig? It isn't nearly as solid
as some would have us believe. In the old days, some magicians
could shift back and forth between various dimensions of reality
using the dream world as a door. They didn't so much go to a different
reality as they brought the alternate reality to them.

Its quite possible that you have a natural talent for cross-overs.
My son does too. Why not see where a little practice leads? :-)

    Hi Mary,

I have no idea how to practice this. And I'm not sure that I would
to practice it. I agree, reality is such a tenuous thing. A sad
note, one of my closest friends died the other night from lung
cancer. She was 33. In the other reality, she was healthy. Her
husband indicated she checked into the hospital 3 weeks ago.

    And so it goes...

On the other hand, since you were laying (alone?!?) on the couch,
you may have dozed off, dreamed a bit & awoke, all w/o knowing it.

Ever have your spouse say "You're snoring; wake up and go to bed."
and you not only deny you were asleep, *you don't even snore*!
(Maybe they're making it all up just to harrass you...)
