1236.0. "Please Reply I'm Confused....." by HAMSTR::WOLLEN () Wed Apr 11 1990 20:38

Ever happen to you? Last week while I was eating lunch in the
cafeteria two men sitting next to me and across from me were talking
about someone they both new years ago and couldn't think of his name.
I didn't know who they were talking about but as I watched them try to
remember this man's name I started hearing the name Wallach being
bounced back and forth. I could hear my own voice saying Wallach,
Wallach...... I couldn't stand it another minute and I said to them
that I could hear the name Wallach and I watched their expressions,
it looked as if they saw a ghost. I don't know how I knew the name
because I don't know any Wallachs..... Any answers out there? Same
day I decided to test my telepathic talent and played a I'm thinking of
a number from 1 to ten with my husband. I projected two numbers to him
and he guessed both of them. (my husband doesn't believe in psychic
anything) then I had him think of two numbers and I guessed both of
them. What was peculiar was that the first time he was thinking of a
number I could hear 3 and 8. The 3 was really strong but I could also
hear an eight so I told him that I thought it was a 3 but that I heard
both numbers. He admitted to me that he couldn't decide which one to
concentrate on. What was going on with my brain that day?????

Sounds like your telepathic abilities were heightened that day,
or are beginning to open up on a permanent basis. I have had
similar experiences and always feel a childlike delight about
    them.

What I am feeling lately is that we are at a time in our
evolution where telepathic communication will become more
commonplace, as I believe it is part of our heritage.

1236.2something going on here, what it is ain't exactly clearVIA::GLANTZMike, DTN 381-1253Thu Apr 12 1990 15:0919
Carole, your reply stimulated the following chain of thought in me:

What if telepathy has always been a human faculty? In fact, what if
there are, and always have been, many people who use it regularly and
effortlessly, just as almost all of us use verbal communication? What
if those of us don't accept telepathy as being possible or common just
haven't learned it yet, like a young child who hasn't learned to talk?
What if those who use it are always helping and teaching us, just as
parents help and teach their children to talk? What if there's nothing
mysterious or occult about telepathy, it's just another human faculty
that each individual learns in their turn, when they're ready?

If any of that's true, then I feel like a jabbering toddler, making
telepathic "noises", "hearing" and imitating the telepathic
conversation of adults around me, but having no clear comprehension of
their communication, or control of my own ability to communicate. It's
both frightening and exciting at the same time.

Could it be true? I can't wait to learn!

Spot on, Mike. It is true. We are only as limited as we perceive
    that we are.

You might be interested in "Travels" by Michael Crichton. It's an
autobiography of sorts, as opposed to science fiction. While he
doesn't go into telepathy per se, he does talk about a lot about these
sorts of things and lends a wonderful perspective to the reader by
talking about his own experiences with such things, including seeing
auras, spoonbending, the astral plane and so forth.

    Re. .1

The same type of thing has happened to me on ocassion. I once had a two
day period where I was really "psychic". I went to a frined of mine's
office, and told her so. She said, "OK, what did I have for dinner last
night?" I said, "It doen't work that way" and immediatly added "soup
and crackers with cheese." Her mouth dropped, and then she asked "what
kind of soup?" to which I replied "minestrone".
She was totally flabbergasted, and said that she hadn't had
minestrone soup in years and had been in the store the evening before
and decided she didn't want to cook, so she picked up a can of
minestrone and some crackers and cheese for dinner.

My telepathic power is not always so strong, my husband and I and my
mother and I have strong telepathic communication, but I'm not sure if
this is from knowing each other so well, but some days, it's like a
window opens and I can "read" a lot of what other people are thinking
    or are going to say.

I'd love to find out how to develop this, I agree that it's probably a
lost sense rather than something extraordinary.

1236.5The Cosmic Anchovy strikes! BTOVT::BEST_GActs of Creation in TimeThu Apr 12 1990 16:5821

I had an experience the other day at Pizza Hut (cosmic, eh? :-).

After we all had ordered our stuff I left to use the restroom. While
there I "imagined" a conversation between our waiter and one of the
other workers. The other worker was saying "Oh, just give them this
order of breadsticks that (some other folks) didn't want." I then
"imagined" that our breadsticks would arrive first - though we had
    been specifically told otherwise.

I promptly forgot all about these mental musings and went back to the
table where we began talking, etc.

The next thing I knew, the waiter was standing there with one order of
breadsticks (we had ordered two) and said that the rest of the stuff
    would come later.

Of course, when I told my friends what I had "imagined" they just
looked at me like I was nuts! :-)

1236.16Re: 1236.2 Response To MikeHAMSTR::WOLLENThu Apr 12 1990 18:3938
Mike, your reply stimulated my feelings as well. As Carole stated she
too experienced similar happenings that evoked a childlike delight. I
too get that emotion whenever I have a psychic experience. And I
believe that we are evolving into an acceptance of and practicing of
    our latent skills.

In retrospect of that day's experience of hearing the name Wallach, I
think perhaps the two men that were trying to think of the name of the
person from their pasts were transmitting to each other the name even
though they consciously couldn't and I happened to be fine tuned that
day and picked up the name Wallach. It was a matter of transmission
and receiving. What confuses me is what was going on in my head/body,
was it something I ate????? that made my antenna work so well. If only
I knew that then I could do it at will. I believe our brain has the
ability to communicate on many levels and telepathy is only one way.
It was an accurate day for me and I felt a little weird afterwards when
it continued further with my husband and again picking up
words/numbers. It's exciting to me and happens a lot but I must admit
that I practice being able to hear things/see things. I use my mind in
this way which is a normal occurence for me, I just don't think
anything of it until I get an experience that seems out of the ordinary
for me. I think we all know or should admit that things aren't always
as they appear. Sometimes there unexplainable at the time but we all
know what goes on in our own heads, don't we? I carry on many
conversations with my head and think I've trained an area in my brain
to be receptive to many paranormal things. I direct my brain to be
quiet so that it can hear. I sort of shut off the internal static you
could say. I agree that man is capable of the telepathic communication
avenue, he just doesn't think he's capable so it sits there waiting to
be developed. It's frigtening and exciting to be sure. I'm always
experimenting with my conscious mind and the unconscious mind is always
    experimenting with me.

What are you waiting for? Practice and it develops your innate skill
towards using another form of communication. We are more than meets
    the eye.

(warning - not much factual data behind this one)

I have often mused that we humans have a genetic predisposition toward
telepathic ability. That those humans with less ability come from
lineages where the telepathic 'gene' was been bred out - e.g. - people
descended from areas where 'witches' were burned, cut out of
society, etc. And that those of us who have the ability easily
within reach, are descended from those humans who remained on the
fringe of society - e.g. gypsies, etc. I derived the idea from
a sampling of 1 (me) whose predecessors (part of them anyway) came from
south eastern Austria where at the time there was a high concetration
    of gypsy folk.

    Idle musings.

you may have something there...I'm also part gypsy (3rd generation
Bohemian) and I've had 3 instances in the past two months of
some sort of precognitive (?) thought...two out of the three were
verified within the next two days...if only it could be controlled...

Perhaps the solar flares that are showering us this year are activating
the latent psychic ability in all of us.

I am the one who started this whole thing. I am of Greek heritage and
grew up in a family where many members were very psychic. Perhaps
there's something there about it being genetic. I most likely
inherited my (skills) from my Grecian ancestors. I've had psychic
happenings as far back to age 9 and I'm 30 + that now.

    Hi Cindy,

The way it was explained to me was that a long time ago there
was a country in Europe called Bohemia which after a war was
taken over by Czechoslovakia...this may or may not be true...
if you look at a map of Czechoslavakia, you'll see that a large
percentage of this country is what is called the Bohemian Forest.
I'm sure someone else could give you a more detailed background...
It's not something I tend to openly admit as some older people
still tend to have a negative attitude of gypsies...my father-in-law,
after being told my heritage told his wife to hide the silver 8^)

Basically, that's it in a nutshell...

1236.12Nurture more general than that.CADSYS::COOPERTopher CooperFri Apr 13 1990 15:1725
RE: .11

    Lennice,

Nothing you have said eliminates "nurture" from consideration, it only
eliminates one specific, direct, factor from the possible environmental
factors which might cause heightened psi ability -- direct statements
to the effect of "I'm psychic and I think it would be great if you
were psychic too", or direct training in psi enhancing techniques
    identified as such.

It does not eliminate less direct nurturing, such as fostering specific
attitudes which happen to be psi conducive, or behaviors (e.g., openly
discussing dreams) which might incidently improve psi functioning. It
also does not eliminate more physical rather than social, environmental
factors such as eating specific foods at a particular age which just
happens to contain a large amount of some substance which promotes the
development of psi (no -- I do not know of any such substance, but that
    doesn't mean it doesn't exist).

Remember -- in "nurture vs nature" the word "nurture" refers to
anything in the environment -- including the prenatal environment --
which varies from individual to individual.

In the broadest sense, a Bohemian is someone who lives
an esoteric, possibly avant garde, lifestyle. The Beats of
the '50 were frequently referred to as "Bohemian".

    re: .8, .14

Just to clear that up a little more...

In the 50's, I'd hear about the Beatniks (usually meant
people who lived in N.Y.C., particularly Greenwich Village (sp?))
and when I first asked to have that explained to me, the reply
was usually to describe a beatnik as a "Bohemian." In the
60's, whenever people were asked to define a "Hippy", the answer
was usually to describe them using the term "beatnik." "They're
sort of like beatnik, man, you know?" There is nothing that
has transpired in the past two decades, to my knowledge, that
has replaced the term hippy, although that seems to be a generally
archaic or passe' term. Yuppie is hardly what a hippy, beatnik
or bohemian person is. Laid back, counter-culture, and the
afore-mentioned avant garde are all applicable descriptors, I
    believe.

1236.19Hundredth monkey syndrome?CARTUN::BERGGRENAs you believe, so shall you seeThu Apr 19 1990 13:4223
Experiencing telepathic communication from time to time my feeling is
that it is a latent ability that *every* person has, and as Carole
mentioned is part of our heritage as human beings.

I feel that it occurs more subconsciously in western society because it
tends to be pooh-poohed by the vast majority of people. If we were
living in a more "aboriginal" or so-called "uncivilized" culture,
however, we find that telepathy is not only an acceptable form of
communication, but also tends to be the "norm" for these folks.

Our increasing dependence and value of "technology" has in some ways, I
feel, divorced us from some of our more latent abilities, such as
telepathy. But what is interesting is that as more and more people
desire to re-connect with the earth again, to explore (seriously) their
own spiritual roots and the interconnectedness of *all* life, telepathy
and other latent abilities seem to be on the rise individually, and of
course, collectively. Hmmm.... the "hundredth monkey" syndrome?!

Perhaps I am making associations here that are not relevant.

    But.....I genuinely doubt that. :-))

1236.20ANOTHER EXPERIENCESKID::DROGERThu Apr 19 1990 17:1535
I've had several experiences and have written about them in this file
before. I entered the following experience here already, but
    didn't get very much response.

About 6 yrs. ago while sitting at work, I had this vision of a girl
(she was on the 2nd floor, almost directly above me) vomitting in her
wastebasket. This vision had flashed quickly in my mind. I thought it
was extremely odd and shrugged it off. A few days later, I was talking
to this girl's mother who also worked on the 2nd floor. She told me that
her daughter, a few days prior, had vomitted in her wastebasket, while at
her desk. It seems she was under a lot of pressure at work and was
quite nervous etc. I could barely believe my ears and wondered if I
heard her correctly. Its possible I was picking up signals from her
earlier that day when I had passed by her in the hallway. She may have
seemed nervous that day, I'm not sure.

I haven't had an experience that vivid since. At times I feel I might
be psychic and other times not. But when things do happen, I do
try to pay closer attention and 'listen' to what they could mean.
For example, last December while watching a television program, a
particular last name kept coming up in my mind. I then shrugged it off
not giving it much more thought. The very next day I had gone on an
exploratory interview. During the interview, I was told about a
particular job that might be of interest. After discussing the job,
I became interested enough to request an interview with the hiring
manager. Well, it turned out that the hiring manager's last name was
the name I had been thinking about the previous night. It then became
apparent to me that this was some sort of sign and that I shouldn't just
shrug it off. Well, I interviewed for the job and was hired. And it has
been a great job..the best I've ever had in DEC. I'm glad I payed
attention to this signal. I realize now that I shouldn't just shrug
these things off so quickly and should really try to listen to what
    they could mean.
