1220.0. "ESP EXPERIENCES!" by SKID::DROGER () Tue Feb 27 1990 17:34

    A close relative of mine has had many ESP experiences, but because
    details are faint on most of them, I will share 2 stories that stick in
    my mind.

    Most of these experiences occur while he's working...he drives for a
    living. One night he was making a delivery to a bank. A few minutes
    prior to arriving at the bank he had a vision of an oil can sitting on
    the sidewalk to the entrance of the bank. He couldn't figure out why
    he would have such a thought and simply shrugged it off. Minutes later
    he arrived at the bank and he couldn't believe his eyes but there in
    front of the bank was an oil can just as he had pictured it.

    Another time he was driving along the highway and hit a bump. A
    thought came to mind of how it would sound/feel if a truck ran over a
    person. Well, the thought passed and he continued driving for a few
    miles until he came upon a large truck (18 wheeler I believe they are
    called) which was in the breakdown lane. He drove past the truck and
    noticed a car in the breakdown lane with its hazard lights on. And a
    few yards ahead he noticed a body lying on the ground. He pulled over
    and approached the truck driver who sat frozen in the driver's seat.
    He asked him what happened and the driver told him that this man was
    standing in the middle of the highway waving his arms. The driver
    tried to stop the truck but was unable to and hit the man. Well, the
    rest is obvious.

    We both wondered if that thought he had when he hit the bump could
    somehow be linked to the accident that happened miles ahead! Is it
    possible that his thought occurred at the same time the accident did?
    Who knows!?

    Anyone have any thoughts, or similar stories/experiences to share?

    Thanks!

    Donna

1220.2Something I'll never forget!COMET::LAFORESTFri Mar 16 1990 18:1216
       Back in early 1983 I kept getting a feeling that I had to go visit
    my father in Ft Lauderdale. In fact, I told my wife that if I was ever
    to see him alive I needed to go immediately. At that time my dad was
    in excellent health and I had nothing to base my feelings on.

       When I called the airline the fare to Florida was more than I could
    come up with, and I became quite depressed because I could not shake
    the feeling of need to go see him. Then two weeks later they had a $99
    one way fare and I got a ticket.

       Four days after I arrived dad had a stroke that killed him within a
    week. If I hadn't gone when I did I would not have seen him alive.

       Can anyone explain what happened? I can't.

1220.3ANSWER UNKNOWN...SIMILAR EXPERIENCE!SKID::DROGERMon Mar 19 1990 16:1740
    I certainly can't explain it. But I did experience some strange
    feelings just 2 days prior to my father's death. I was visiting my
    parents one Sunday afternoon. I was talking to my mother when my
    father came into the room. He started to talk about something in the
    middle of my mother's conversation. For some reason I had this feeling
    that I really wanted to 'listen' to him. I had the realization that I
    usually didn't pay close attention to what he says so this time I'm
    going to really listen. And for some reason that day he looked really
    old to me, something I never noticed before. It was just the way the
    sunlight was reflecting off his face. He was 67 when he passed away.

    Other members in my family had strange feelings the day of his
    unexpected death. My sister who lives a few towns away was dropping
    her son off to school. She had this warm memory of my father's car
    and how it smelled when my father used to drop her off at school.
    Another sister recalls the morning my father dropped her off to work...
    how when she said good-bye to him it somehow felt stranger than the other
    mornings when she said good-bye. This time it felt like it was going
    to be the last time. Another sister who lives in Arizona was coming
    home that evening and had this strange feeling that her husband was
    going to tell her some very bad news. One of my brothers recalls
    the morning he was talking to my father. We had had a big snowstorm
    the night before and they were talking about the cars needed to be
    moved because someone was coming to plow that morning. When my
    brother headed for his apartment he had this strong feeling that he
    should go back and talk to my father some more, as though my father
    still wanted to talk to him. But instead he just shrugged off that
    feeling and headed for his apartment. That afternoon my father had
    a heart attack while driving.

    I don't know what messages we all were receiving and how we were
    receiving them, but somehow we were getting a message that something
    was about to happen. And it wasn't like my father was ill. He had a
    bi-pass operation in 1976 and ever since that time was in great health.
    It certainly was a shock for everyone for him to die so suddenly.

    I wonder if there is a solid explanation for these experiences. Maybe
    we will only know the true answer when it is our time to die!

1220.4Our Thoughts do have meaning....SOFBA1::LUCEMon Mar 19 1990 16:5726
    2 Experiences of mine...

       When I was in junior high traveling home with Mom and step Dad I had
    the thought of getting into an accident on the way home.. Sure enough
    Someone taking a turn on a dark rainy evening hit us head on...

       The second time was about 2 or 3 years ago, my boyfriend and I were
    leaving his relatives house. Prior to leaving they were talking about
    how many cars they had wrecked. I said to myself, were going to get
    in an accident now. Sure enough right on the on ramp. He lost control
    by going to fast around the ben... (IROC)... we did 2, 360 turns.

       It wasnt so much of a feeling of these incidents it was just a
    thought that had popped into my mind. I wasnt even affraid. I didnt
    actually think it would happen....

       I cant explain it.... It would be interesting to experience these
    things more often.. Atleast pay attention to them, that way you can
    actually avoid or stop bad things from happening...

                            {yes}....{no}

                                     Tell me what you think...

                                             Kim
1220.5A nice side - I like itSLSTRN::PLOETZWed Apr 04 1990 17:5719
    I always get scared to think out the bad thoughts (re: .4) because I
    think we can control things around us.

    On another note I have had quite a few dreams about someone dying and
    the next morning, I have found out that someone close to me has died.
    The last one was particularly interesting, as it was my friend's
    brother. He asked me to keep being his sister's friend. Usually the
    dreams don't pinpoint the person.

    Just the other night I dreamed that my pregnant friend had back pain -
    I decided it was back labor - but upon calling her, she mentioned in
    conversation that her back was really painful. Her lower back.

    Are any of you good card players? I seem to know what cards are going
    to be played, when I get on an ESP roll!
