I recall seeing somewhere (me thinks in here) a discussion about Easter Island.
There will be a broadcast of a show on the subject on channel 2 in the Boston,
Mass. USA area sometime this week.  Tuesday's NOVA show seems to be it, but you
should check your TV listings to be sure.

(I did a DIR/TITL=EASTER but got a party note).  I'll come back and delete this
in a few days.

    Last night covered the current consensus of conventional archeological
    investigations on possible origins of the peoples and culture of Easter
    Island. Next week (19 Sep) will discuss possibilities as to how/why
    that culture drastically changed (one might say, collapsed...) a
    hundred or so years before western civilization stumbled on Easter I.

    re:-
    judging from the last show it seeems that they did a good job of
    trashing their fragil ecosystem. it seemed that the island was covered
    with palm trees which they did a good job of cutting down.
    my favorite scene was the easter island statue simulation carryed
    out by this professor in i think it was wyoming. all these cowboys
    pulling a 10 ton replica of an easter island statue in concrete
    was quite a sight.

    Now what _I_ wanna see is the expression on the archeologists'
    faces in a few hundred years when they dig up an Easter Island
    statue with "Made in Wyoming" printed on the bottom...
