1102.0. "Flower's" by TELALL::SABANSKI () Fri Aug 04 1989 14:55

I heard a story last night from an aunt of
mine that I thought was beautiful.

My grandmother and grandfather were married for 52
years. And everyday of thier marriage my grandfather
would give her a flower. It would either be hand picked
or bought at the store. Everyday without fail she could
    expect a flower from him.

Three weeks before thier 53rd wedding anniversary,
my grandfather died unexpectadly in his sleep.

On the day of thier anniversary, my grandmother
was in the house. It was in early November, so there
were no fresh flowers outside. All of a sudden she
said she smelled flowers. Fresh flowers! She said the
whole room just filled up with an overpowering smell of
flowers. She said she knew it was my grandfather's way
of wishing her a happy anniversary.........

I wonder if you can really contact someone after you've
crossed to the other side??????? Or maybe she just missed
him so much that she imagined it?

Yes, that is a warm story. I want to ask somewhat of a
rhetorical question, however...what is the difference between
    this reality and imagination?

I think it could have been that she missed him
so much that she could have just imagined it.
But none the less it filled her with warm memorie's
and made her feel at least for awhile that he was still
    with her.......

But I do tend to believe that you can keep in touch
spiritually with loved ones. I think you will alway's
have a connection with them no matter where they are,
if you just tune into it.

I read somewhere, and also believe, that when you remember someone who
is deceased, that person exists for you during that time.

We are never really alone - it just appears that way if you are only
    operating in the physical plane.

    That was a nice story.

My brother died a little over two years ago. Occasionally, he pops
up in my dreams when prior to his death I don't recall any dreams
in which he took part. When he is in a dream I awaken as if we just
	had a visit.

The smell of flowers for me has always been an omen of something
happening in my family or friends. It is ususally in a place where
there are no flowers. I have smell flowers right before a death or a
    car accident.

I'm sure in your case if was just a sign that your grandfather was ok
and keeping in touch with your grandmother.

My Dad died unexpectedly one month + one day before his 53rd birthday.
On the day he died, when Mom was leaving the house for work, she
gave him a kiss and he said "don't forget to wear your seatbelt".
Off she goes to work. He had a heart attack later that day and died.

A few weeks later, feeling terribly (understandably) blue, Mom gets
in the car after work and didn't put her seatbelt on. She's about
1/4 of the way home and all of a sudden the seatbelt snaps up,
reminding her that she had forgotten to put it on. She said, "It
was kind of like Dad was trying to remind me". A lot of other things
happened like that, around his death. Strange. But, I believe my
Dad, like your Grandfather, is there. Whether just in your mind,
    or in spirit, or however.

The flower smell must've made your Grandmother feel nice.

1102.10I vote for Grandfather!CARTUN::BERGGRENFri Aug 25 1989 20:2743
Yes, communication is not only possible between "heaven and earth", but
is a daily occurance, but generally takes place on a more subconscious
    level of the mind.

The reason being that the realm of spirit is actually our real home
and there is a thread of consciousness that ever so subtly links these
    worlds together.

I've been involved in studying the phenomenon of spirit communication
for ten years and during the last three years was part of a group that
"fine-tuned" our abilities to do this type of communication.
Basically it involved quieting the mind and elevating the consciousness
to a state similar to that achieved during meditation. In this way
you're able to make the subconscious mind more accessible to the
    conscious.

Communication happens via mental telepathy, which is not
just seeing images in your mind (clairvoyance), or hearing words
(clairaudience), but can occur through any one or a combination of the
five senses, smell included. In technical terms, receiving info
communicated through the sense of smell is termed "clairsentience".

Anyway, I could go on and on. But what I would say is that I have no
doubt your grandfather wanted his well wishes to be known to your
grandmother and that he was sending her his love, so he choose
the one thing he felt sure she would connect with him the most -
flowers! I think that is absolutely beautiful! Hooray for him
and her! What a great, sweet love they share!

You can probably tell by this note that I believe in Life after Life.
I do. I continue to fine tune my abilities to communicate in this
way, and it has greatly enhanced my life in more ways than I can say.

Well anyway, I cast my vote that the flowers were from your grandfather
and not simply a figment of your grandmother's imagination...although
that was certainly the vessel your grandfather used to communicate
    his love through!

    Peace,

    Karen

1102.11Different definitions used elsewhere.CADSYS::COOPERTopher CooperFri Aug 25 1989 22:1743
RE: .10

Just a quick note on terminology to help avoid some confusion
    elsewhere.

Karen's use of terms is mostly correct, but it is not the general
usage one usually finds nowadays. Her definitions are close to the
original ones. There are still many groups which use the terms in
these original meanings, but they have changed meaning somewhat among
    others including the parapsychological/psychical-research community
who originated all the terms I'm speaking of.

Specifically, "telepathy" (rarely used with the adjective "mental" now,
since it is redundant) is mind-to-mind information transfer however
the information is internally perceived by the reciever (the modality
    of the transfer).

Similarly, "clairvoyance" is now generally used to mean transfer of
information from the (present time) physical world to the mind,
irrespective of the modality. If it is desired to specify the modality
the appropriate adjective would be used, such as "tactile
clairvoyance", "auditory clairvoyance", "visual clairvoyance" (which
would be redundant from the literal/original meaning), "olfactory
clairvoyance", <<can't think what taste would be>>, "emotional
clairvoyance", etc. etc.. The same adjectives are used with
"telepathy". Clairaudience is not infrequently used to synonymously
    with auditory clairvoyance.

I have never seen clairsentience used to mean "olfactory clairvoyance"
in the general modern usage. I have seen it used, somewhat
inappropriately to mean something like "pure thought telepathy". It
means literally, "clear sensing" (as clairvoyance means literally
"clear seeing" and clairaudience" means literally "clear hearing").
It would thus be a more appropriate word for what is now generally
called clairvoyance, but that usage is now pretty deeply entrenched.

I make this point not to correct Karen -- if that is the terminology
within her community, then it is, in a very real sense correct within
that context -- but to prevent readers from taking those definitions
into other contexts and getting confused.

Hi! Well, we both knew it was inevitable... I was really touched by
the flowers story. As always, isn't it wonderous the many ways that we
do communicate with each other - spirit in body and spirit sans the
    physical body?

Hope you're enjoying vacation. I look forward to talking to you real
soon! We've got "work" to do!

Oh, by the way, you haven't by any chance received the Joe Campbell
tapes back yet - I'm really looking forward to seeing them.

Talk to you real soon and take GOOD care of yourself!
