1074.0. "Are all "magics" tied to a religion ?" by CSC32::S_LEDOUX (Home: Handymans Nitemare On Elm St.) Mon Jun 26 1989 09:33

Ok. Over the past few weeks I've kept my silence and read everything in
this notesfile - Not all the replies to all of the topics but a large %'age
of them. Boy am I confused (steady-state). I've a number of questions
that I'll save for later but the first ones that come to mind have to do with
"magic" as it relates (or not) to religion. In this context I'd like to
define religion as pertaining to worship.

Are there (what kinds, please) types of "magic" that are NOT related to
a specific religion ?

While I _definately_ belive there are some types of "magic" and would like
to begin research in some areas, I don't believe I could attain any measure
of success in an area of "magic" that requires being committed to a belief/
worship system. This is not to say that I don't believe in _something_,
I just haven't managed to quite figure out what it is yet.

Is there any hope for this aspiring wizard (is that the right term?) ?

Scott.

I cant imagin a type of "Magick" forcing someone to do something against
their own design. the whole idea of it is to allow the USER the
manuverability to decide such issues for him or her self and to choose
what is best for him or her self. You have the freedom to re-define
words that dont feel "proper" or "accurate" to what is best
suited to you and your belief... or if you are unsure about your
belief... you have the right to put things on "HOLD" untill more
info is gathered and the item can be properly sorted and put in
its place. You have the freedom to desecrate sacred objects and make the
profane into items of worship. Have fun... have a blast! Raise Heaven
or Hell... whatever thou wilt.

Are you talking Spiritualist or Magician? In general.... and IMHO I
would have to say that all forms require at least a general belief
in a supreem being either inside yourself waiting to be released,
or something that has always been where it is waiting to be discovered.
Or perhaps something that is to be manifested.

"God" or "gods" are very powerful words and I havn't found any form
of "magick" that doesn't use these words and symbols in some way.
It would be like saying... "I desire to build a house but wish to build it
without a desire within myself to build a house" Chances are, That
such a project, under such terms would never be completed because
there is no desire to see the finished work. No reason or objective
to reach.

If you believe there is no "God" outside of you... or that there is
no "Higher Self" within you.("God" within you) Why look into Magic?
What are you looking for?

If you dont have or know the answers, thats cool. But you do have to be
interested in finding them. I would suggest that to begin a study in
this... you only need an intrest. Just be positive and dont worry
about defining your "BELIEF". (Even if you were to write it down...
in two or three months you would change it... if you just didn't
throw it out in frustration during the first draft.)

Fantastic... Thats the first step in becoming a "Wizard" or "Mage" or
"Jerk" or "Human being", animals dont have such thoughts.... (but that
doesn't mean the animal isn't part of you.);-)

There are titles for different degrees within orders, but when you
start out your pretty much a "Student" no matter what. but if you have
Hope within yourself for such a discovery, then there is hope.
