1008.0. "An Unsettling Experience" by EMC2::PELLATT () Wed Mar 22 1989 11:28

I am posting the following account for a friend. It relates a rather
unpleasant event a friend ( "Lucy" - not her real name ) of hers has
    experienced recently.

She'd be interested to hear ( either here or I will forward any offline
mail ) from anyone who has had similar experiences or who has advice to
    give.

They are currently searching local newspaper back-issues for relevant
information, and I will post any developments here ; dependent on the
approval of those involved of course.

    Dave.

Lucy remarked how strange it was that the loveliest part of the woods
she goes to walk her dog in 'gives her the creeps' to the extent of
making her scalp prickle as if someone is watching her.

Well, two weeks ago, she went there again (sunny lunchtime so not
scared) and decided she would see why that one particular bit of path
made her feel peculiar. She deliberately made herself walk over the
'spot' several times and her skin pricked from feet to head and then her
hair started to 'stand on end'. She burst into tears and started
    retching and eventually vomitted.

She ran away from the patch and sat down and had a horrid picture of a
girl with shortish blond hair lying face-down in the mud, dead.

Needless to say she was VERY shaken and didn't know what to do, but I
have no reason to doubt that she's telling the truth and is seriously
worried (as I've said, it's taken her two weeks to pluck up the courage
to tell anyone). She has given me several bits of 'information' she
sort of picked up on the spot while she was there:

    		Choking, possibly strangulation.
Overwhelming sadness, pity for whoever it is.
Feelings of the person are of degredation,
longing for some sort of 'dignity' and
great sense of shame (possible rape came to
    		mind while she stood there).
'Her head is lower than her body' was
something Lucy said she was very
aware of and of discomfort i.e., wet,
    		muddy ground.
There are no marks on the body i.e., blood
of anything horrid, Lucy just says
she just cried with the overwhelming
pity she felt for 'her' (whoever she is/
    		was).
Biggest shock - on the last visit while
crying the initials M A S came into her
head but not necessarily in that order.
She was 'told' that "A if for Ann without
an E" and that S is the last name. She
became scared then and left but thinks
the M was meant to be Margaret.

This sounds similar to a description I recently read in Ted
Holiday's book, _The_Goblin_Universe_. In this book he
describes several different types of spiritual encounters, and
this story fits what he would have called a ghoul.

The ghoul, as he describes it is a specific location that
seems to contain a 'recording' of some powerful emotion, from some
event that took place at same spot at an earlier time. He says
it's not an actual spirit presence, but is more like a recording
in a specific location. One can map the area affected by the
'ghoul' by walking back and forth in and out of the affected area.

Your friend might be interested in trying psychometry, if she
is talented in this direction. It is said that some people have
the ability to read the past history of objects, by holding them.

    A practical idea (I hope):

If "Lucy" wants to, she could probably find out pretty easily
if anyone matching the description she pictures died in that area.
Newspapers, people who've lived there a long time, the police
department, the town clerk, any of these might help. 'Course, you
have to be careful asking people for that kind of information (they
might think you're strange). I've had people tell me that they
"thought something terrible happened" at a place, but this could
usually be explained as a psychological thing where the person develops
an idea about a place that they then can't shake - such as kids
being terrified of a particular closet because "it has monsters
in it." This woman's reaction seems awfully extreme to be that,
    but maybe it is.

    Hope she feels better soon.

    Re .2

An interesting suggestion, seems to fit all we know so far.

    Re .3

Some friends of Lucy have made a start using the local newspaper
and unfortunately, even with the issues recorded on Microfiche,
the sheer volume of work that has to be done, without a definite
date ( anywhere between '75 and '85 is the best guess so far ) is
    proving obstructive...

...anyone done this sort of thing before ? Is there any way to make
    it easier ?

FWIW, my initial feelings are that perhaps some essence of the "victim"
is trapped at this place and has, maybe, called to Lucy for help ?

    RE: .4

I havn't done very much research work, however I have known
people who have. (Histories of towns and people and such.)
They have always tried to start of first with local folks
who were closely connected to the subject of research first.
Then go to the newspapers and such. You really dont know
what kind of event you are looking for and it would seem
possible or almost probable that you will skip over or miss
what you are looking for if your not sure about dates, or
    people involved.
Are there any local homes in that area? Door to door asking
for long time residents or for any rememberances could pin down
    a little more for you.
You also might want to take a stap at contacting your local
chapter of Senior Citizens. Contact the person in charge first
and ask if you could grab a few minutes from a meeting to ask if
anyone could recall any stories or such about that specific area?
Acknoledge that you understand this is rather strange but you are
    very curious.
Local Hysterical (Historical) Societies are also filled with
gabby old women who are filled with the stories of the town and
sitting and listening to someone tell stories is much more enjoyable
than looking through a microfich. (it also is good therapy for the
    story teller and yourself) ;-)

RE: .4 (Dave):

Also Dave, don't reject the obvious before you've considered it. You
should consider talking to some police (preferably off duty, over
coffee or whatever) and to local reporters. Either has the risk
of being high exposure approaches, so you definitely should not
jump into that course, but (1) they are the ones most likely to know,
    (2) if your search is successful and you find something your going to
be morally obligated to go to the police anyway, (3) you can probably
think of a good cover story or at least act as an intermediary
until/unless something is found and it becomes an issue open to
requiring legal testamony. So consider it -- its the highest
    efficiency approach.

Also, as a personal favor, could you get everything down on paper or
tape with photos of the area, mark maps, and anything else you can
think of to indicate precise information. It should all be dated
and given to someone neutral (I volunteer, but someone of "standing"
    might be better).

Keep in mind, however, that even if such things can happen (as I
believe they can) that reactions such as you describe can
unquestionably be triggered by completely non-paranormal phenomena.
For example, a faint odor pecular to the area, or some other innocuous
local feature or combinations of features, may be triggering distorted
recall of some frightening childhood event of her own. By all means,
though -- do investigate -- that's the only way we have a hope of
knowing one way or the other.

Has your friend considered contacting a local Psyshic that might
be willing to travel to the site? If the impressions are as strong
as described, then the psychic may be able to bring forth some valuable
information that could save a lot of time searching files, etc.
Also, have you thought that she may have stumbled upon a murder
scene and that a body may be buried close by! Perhaps, this entity
is trying to bring itself to light to ease the minds of loved ones
who have no answers to her disappearance?

i was going to say that perhaps a medium might be interested
in helping your friend out, visiting the site etc.

as for it being a murder site.surely the police would be
the best people to ask, misiing persons that sort of thing?

1008.9Have you found any help?POBOX::HEINThu Aug 03 1989 20:289
Has anything been found on this incident? Your story made me feel
really sad. It seems to me like the blond girl is trying desperately
to make herself and/or her situation known, and is possibly hoping
that your friend can help. Maybe she wants to let the public know
who killed her. (I know it sounds almost like a movie plot, but
it is possible). Please let me know (if you can) if anything has
    been turned up.

    Re the last few.

'Lucy' has now moved house away from the place in question, and now
wishes not to even discuss the experience. I have visited the spot but
failed to 'feel' or see anything unusual.

Short of finding teams of volunteers to scour ten years worth of
newspapers ( even in England, deaths / disappearances are frighteningly
frequent which makes the task of finding *one* that might fit even more
complex ) and digging the area, there seems little else to be done but
    let the matter rest.

I know that you said that our friend wanted to let the matter rest,
and I don't mean to pry, but has anything else been discovered on
this matter? I've been away at school for a semester, and yet this
story sort of haunts me. It gives me such a feeling of sadness.
I know that there isn't much I can do to help, especially if your
friend wants to forget the whole ordeal, but my prayers are with
her. It must be a horribly draining experience to think about the
vision she saw and the feelings she felt.
