891.0. "Time travel dream? " by SHRFAC::ADAMS () Wed Oct 19 1988 18:50

Can someone help me disect a reoccuring dream?

Over the last sixth months I've been having this dream that
I'm walking around in this old building looking for something...
what, I have no idea. I just keep looking, searching, sneaking
from room to room. The rooms are old and absolutely beautiful:
libraries, parlors, foyers..very detailed architecture. As I
enter each room, I am relieved that no one is there and then
I marvel at the craftsmanship. I usually wake up at when I hear
someone coming. It's as if I'm not suppose to be in this place
and fear of approaching footsteps jolts me from the dream.
But not last night...last night I "completed" the dream and it
was so real, so facinating that I woke up with tears in my eyes.
I somehow made my way into a lobby and I exclaimed "sh*t, it's
a hotel" Again I marveled at the detail but I was even more
impressed by the people. They all wore period dress (1800's) and
were bustling about booking rooms and all those things one does
in a hotel lobby. I was hiding behind a partition and overheard
the manager talking to a bellhop about proper etiquette etc. Again,
I didn't feel I should be there. Suddenly, I was outside
standing on a common flanked by two streets and was again overwhelmed
by the people, the horses, the peddlers, the buildings...it was
so incredible. I then said, "I'm not of this time...why am I here,
how did I get here?" But I felt so comfortable, so alive that I
thought well maybe I'm supposed to be here afterall. I could smell
a freshness in the air and excitement rushed through my body...Then
I said "This is what I've been looking for in all those dreams...this
is my past life...and I'm here...I've made it!!" And wouldn't you
know it, just when I thought I had died and gone on to this place
in my mind, my alarm clock woke me. I sat up in bed and felt as
if I had just travelled back in time, it was THAT real to me, THAT
    detailed.
I've always been a vivid dreamer but usually things don't make sense
which discredits the dream. But this seemed too real, if you know
what I mean. Appreciate any explanations or sharing of similar
    experiences.

What a thrill that must have been! I had a "dream" once in
which I found myself riding in a carriage, in 18th century
England, and dressed in period garb. Remember thinking "I
know I'm asleep in Delaware; how the heck did I get *here*?"
The dream was 100-percent lifelike, down to visible motes
    of dust in the air.

Here's hoping we both find those places again! 8-)

.1 ....precisely ! I really enjoyed my venture into the past
as well. I'm assuming of course that I will return to play out
whata dream- expert may interpret as a fanatsy. It strikes me
as incredible that the mind can create such vividly detailed
illusions with such limited knowledge. It all points to, I
believe, the vast unexplored frontier of the mind. What really
stood out in my dream was that I could SMELL the freshness of
the air, the manure in the streets...even the people.
When I awoke, I almost called shirley McClain!

I had a similar dream when I was about 12... it was so vivid that
when I woke up I wrote it down... unfortunately I've lost the book... but
basically I was in an old warehouse, I stepped through a door and
    was back in time...

I met a guy there who I could describe exactly, his name was Jonathan,
normally in dreams I am only 'aware' of somebody I don't actually
    'see' them...

I stayed in his house then I knew I had to leave I went to the
warehouse and got on a sort of ski-lift that went forward through
the years... promising to meet this guy in the future...

About 2 years later I was at a disco when I was asked to dance -
this guy was the spitting image of my dream and we hit it off right
away... he'd seen me dancing from across a very large room (Butlins
ballroom) and had skipped away from the bar where he was working
cos he was sure he knew me... I'm not that special that anyone woulkd
notice me like that, and as I was 14 and he was 21 it was very
strange... we felt like we'd met before and before he told me I
guessed his name was John... I kept in touch with
him after the holiday, till his fiance found out and went spare...then
I got a very moving letter from him.

This is probably pure coincidence, but this was the only dream I've
ever had that was so vivid and real I could write it down... the
strange thing was that in my dream the dream jonathan had said "The
timing is wrong... you must go back" In the letter telling me he
couldn;t keep in touch he actually used the words "The timing is
    wrong... you're too young"

Unfortunately I did have all his letters and the original story
I wrote after my dream - but my mother threw all my memorabilia
out when I went to University.

Mark,

Maybe all these beautiful rooms are unexplored areas of yourself and
the dream may be telling you it's time to begin looking into them. In the
beginning you felt you shouldn't be there but towards the end you feel more
at home, possibly countering a conscious reluctance to begin a spritual
quest.

I'm sure there is more to it, but this is what first came to mind. Hope it
helps.

Thanks Terry...that's a start anyway. I *did* sense a feeling of
acceptance upon awakening, as if I had come to terms with something.
What do you mean when you say "spiritual quest" ? I've accepted
Christ in my life already...is there more?

Carl Jung reported that he had dreams of discovering new rooms in
his house. He interpreted this to be new areas of his mind or
personality that were opening to consciousness. It is as if the
    rooms represent unused psychic functions.

the piece I was forgetting: upon entering each room, I was always

Mark,

Spiritual quest to me is that process we all eventually go through
that gets us where we're going. Not an easy process, but once
    undertaken almost impossible to abandon.

    MARK,
About eight years ago I had a dream about being in a fine hotel

the place was decorated with rich wall papers and elegant carpets

and the hallways had gas lamps....well long story short last

week I stayed in a Hotel in Tallahassee florida, that from the

moment I stepped in to the lobby....A feeling came over me that

" This was the Place in my dream ".....Boy was I blown away

when on my elevator trip up to my I saw in my minds eye the

carpet and wallpaper designs, along with the gas lamps (electric)

in the hall way when the door opened.

Well, I think I've finally found the place to enter my note, but
I'm not sure if anyone will read it here, since the last note was
in 1988! But seeing how much psychic activity goes on here, maybe
    someone will find it :-).

About 5 or 6 years ago I had a wonderful dream. It left me with
such a happy feeling when I awoke that I've often hoped to have
    this dream again.

The dream went as such... I seemed to have come back from the future
into this pinkish, empty room. A young man, Tom, with blond hair,
apparently had come forward into the future to meet me there.

The room, as I mentioned, was empty. There was a pink marble fireplace
on one wall, and two windows on the opposite wall. White curtains
were blowing into the room from the fresh breeze. The far wall
was blurry... not even sure if it was a wall or fog. And the final
wall was more a staircase landing, where a closet was.

Tom and I danced and danced. It was wonderful. He asked me to
marry him, and I eagerly said "yes". He responded that I had to
wear a gown of pearls. I looked "all over" (where, I don't exactly
know, but I know I looked), and could only come up with a veil of
pearls that was in the closet. He said that that would do. As
I put it on, however, we both "heard" someone telling us that we
had other responsibilities and had to go back to our respective
times. I'm not sure if someone else actually said it, or if our
own consciences were saying it, but loud enough for us both to hear.

Even though we had to depart one another's company, like I mentioned
before, I awoke happier than I ever remembered.

The funny thing about this, though, is that I've mentioned the dream
to some other people, and they RECOGNIZE the room! They've been
there with other people, and they all describe it in a very similar
fashion. Perhaps it was another time that we all shared? Another
    place? Planet? Got me!

Hi - yes, most here will read it as all new notes appear to those who
use the "Next Unseen" key, which is the key on your keypad just above
the Enter key. This will take you to the next new note/topic, then you
use 3 key to move to the next note in the same topic, or the 1 key to
move a note back in the topic.

Sounds like a wonderful place, especially with the white curtains and
marble fireplace! In fact, it feels kind of familiar to me too.
    Interesting.

I've had a dream that I was in a room that was all white (it could've
been pink - I'm color-blind). There was also a (white) fireplace
there, a white easy chair, and a low, white stone altar. My dad
was there, but we didn't dance and he didn't ask me to marry him.

re: .10 (RENSING)

I'll take a shot at this, although I repeat what is suggested many
times in this notesfile, you are really the only one who can interpret
your dream. Other can offer suggestions, but you have to come to your
    own conclusions.

I would think (using a Jungian approach) that the young man, Tom, is
your inner male (aminus). The image of masculinity as you experience
it internally. Perhaps at this time in your life you were involved or
had been involved (or possibly a precognition) in a relationship that
existed through a projection of this aminus quality onto a real person.
This, to me, is found in the fact that you could find a veil (something
you "look through", the projection) of pearls rather than the gown. In
the end, it is suggested that you lay down your projection and continue
with your outer life but that you could always find this special
individual within yourself any time you look. I think somewhere within
you realized this which is why you woke up feeling so wonderful. A very
good dream to keep around and relive when you feel a need to be near this
inner man (rather than look for him "out there").

For more you could read any of Jung's work in dreams. For a closer look
at the idea of animus and projection, read _She_ by Robert Johnson.

If the Jungian stuff clicks or if you'd like to get some more
ideas on how to get it to click you might want to check note

RE: 12... as I mentioned, other folks seem to have dreamed of a
similar place, but different people and circumstances. Hence, I'm
not surprised about the chair... nor your father's not asking you
    to marry him :-)

re: 13... "inner man"... you kind of lost me. Does it make any
difference that I'm a woman? (with a first name of "Dale", sometimes

You didn't put your first name on your note but I assumed you were a
she anyway. As far as the inner man goes, it is a Jungian concept
(also found in some eastern thought - yin/yang). Within each one of
us is both a feminine and masculine principle. In women the feminine
is typically pronounced while in men the masculine is. Part of Jung's
process of individuation is to find balance between both. Anyway, if
you want to learn more, pick up a book on Jungian psychology.
