765.0. "Twin Study -- Out of the Ordinary Results?" by MARKER::KALLIS (Don't confuse `want' and `need.') Fri Jun 17 1988 12:08

                          -<Proxy Posting>-

I have been asked to post the following from a noter who remains
    to wish anonymous.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Anything interesting in this?

A set of twins, a male and a female, that have had many experiences
where one twin 'feels' or 'knows' what is going on with the othertwin,
even when they are separated by hundreds of miles. Both
twins have had a number of'psychic' experiences, but neither twin
is 'into' the types of things discussed in DEJAVU. The male twin
regularly remembers his dreams and has seen many of his dreams end
up predicting events. He also has done a number of very strange
things in his sleep (lots of sleepwalking as a child, jumped out
of a window in his sleep at age 16, and many other strange things
over the years). The female is very perceptive and sensitive to other
    peoples moods and feelings.

The twins were born in the Midwest to a mother who was adopted
and a father who was raised by people other than his
genetic parents. The twins, now in their early thirties, know
nothing about three of their genetic grandparents. [They
did meet their father's genetic father].

At the age of four, the twins moved to the Boston area
with their family. They were immediately made part of
an eight year study at a well known university where
numerous Xrays, body measurements, photographs, etc
were taken every three months over those eight years. They
say the study was a 'twin study', although they have
never seen the results or any data from the study.

Do you think any of these things in the twins lives
are out of the ordinary? Do you think there is a
relationship between the study, their sensitivity, and the
fact that they know so little about their family tree?

I'm confused. I don't see anything that strikes me as odd in this.

>>>>They say the study was a 'twin study', although they have never

Have they asked for it? Maybe the information was available to their
parents at age 12 when the study was completed. They should ask their
parents or the university that conducted the study. Twin studies
are abundant and to me it sounds like the university was studying
growth patterns in fraternal twins, perhaps comparing them to
growth patterns in identical twins who are remarkably similar.

Regarding the 'feeling' or 'knowing' what is going on with the other
twin even when they are separated by the miles - this could be attributed
to just their being part of each others' family. I do this with my
older sister - as well as my fratneral twin sister! I definately feel
closer to my twin - but I have 'feelings' about both of them. Sure, they
could have some telepathic link, but I think that just by virtue
of the fact that people are raised together - they have the same
values, background, etc., as well as attitudes and perceptions -
they come to 'know' each other very well and can perceive what is
happening with a sibling. It's hard to think something could be
odd in this case just by saying there are a 'number of
psychic experiences' or that the male jumped out of a window! And
many women are 'very perceptive and sensitive to other peoples moods
and feelings'....

And - I don't see any tie-in that's odd with the family tree at all.

(maybe I don't have a vivid enough imagination either....)
