607.0. "Consellation in a Previous Morphology ..." by INK::KALLIS (Has anybody lost a shoggoth?) Wed Dec 23 1987 14:49

-<Just to save Marcia the trouble>-

If you could be a constellation, which one would you like to be?
Don't hold back! Let it all hang out!

Cygnus the Swan would be my choice, soaring through the Milky Way.
Cygnus' brightest star, Deneb, is part of a large pattern called
the Navigator's Right Triangle. The stars that make up this triangle
are Deneb (in Cygnus), Altair (in Aquila) and Vega (in Lyra). The
formation is supposed to have served as a navigational aid in past
centuries, along with Polaris its attendant Ursae.

Can I just be the moon? I guess the moon is not really
a constellation, is it? I guess I live in a really small
universe...just the sun and the moon and those bright
    pinpoints of light...

Wait, can I change my answer? (typical Libra!)
I think I want to be a cloud!

Marcia, you should hear the song by Rush called Cygnus X-1.

I set a course just East of Lyra
         Northwest of Pegasus
Flew into the light of Deneb
         Sailed across the Milky Way

         On my ship the Rocinante
         Wheeling through the galaxy
Headed for the heart of Cygnus
         Headlong into mystery...

The x-ray is her siren song
My ship cannot resist her long
         Nearer to my deadly goal
Until the black hole takes control

Anyway I would choose Orion because it is so easily identified,
which is a contrast from what really is true about me.

this brings to mind a poem by Sara Teasdale (one of my faves)

    Stars over snow
And in the west a planet
    Swinging below a star
    It is not far
    It never will be far
