490.0. "DIGITAL in a past life" by CAMLOT::COFFMAN (Howard D. Coffman) Thu Sep 17 1987 14:54

How about a discussion on what DIGITAL may have been in a past life.

I have some of this discussion with friends but thought a wider
discussion would be quite interesting.

I'll vote for a think tank on Atlantis.

490.1Say what?GLORY::WETHERINGTONThu Sep 17 1987 18:0222
    In all my experience with re-incarnation, in all my readings from
    many different schools of thought, and in all my discussions with
    people from dozens of different mystical backgrounds, I have never
    heard of anything but an INDIVIDUAL SOUL undergoing reincarnation.
    Never in my life have I heard of anything at all made by the hand
    of man, that was of a nature to

    1. Need to
    2. Have the ability to

    re-incarnate.

    I do not believe that physical, inanimate creations could possibly
    undergo re-incarnation, and if you understand re-incarnation, you
    will understand that they would have no need to...DIGITAL as an
    entity is simply a physical vehicle for the actions of the people
    who are a part of it (and this particular person cites the existence
    of this conference as one of many reasons he's happy to be here).

Maybe the people responsible for DIGITAL had created something similar in
a past life. And although DIGITAL itself wasn't reincarnated directly,
it may have been created by people who were reincarnated.

Thanks Dave.

The purpose of the note was to have some *fun* with a topic.

We don't seem to do alot of that in this file. :-)

    What a frightening idea, that corporations are reincarnated! Does
    this mean, that in future lives, I will be working with the same
    turkeys, doing the same things, interacting with the same outside
    groups? Alfred Hitchcock could have done wonders with something
    like this.

490.13other times I can barely see...GLORY::WETHERINGTONMon Sep 21 1987 21:1518
    Forgive me, folks, I seem to be breaking my own rules as fast as
    I make them.

    It may be a while before I can get myself off of defensive mode
    after recent experiences...I was also afraid that perhaps someone
    might be trying to get something started that could endanger this
    conference, thus my overly aggresive reaction...again, I apologise,
    it was unwarrented. I will leave the defense of this conference
    to others who know more what's going on, and have been here since
    the beginning.

    I have noticed that this DEC office, at least, has more than it's
    share of exceptionally bright, talented, special people...and I've
    experienced the feeling that I almost felt like I know a couple
    of them already, we immediately felt comfortable with each other
    and seemed to already know each other's styles...dejavu???

    I can't begin to determine exactly what we might have been in the
    past. . .but I have a gut feel for some of the characteristic
    attributes: zealous, talented, and eager to be RIGHT.

    From what I've read on re-incarnation, maybe we were #1 then,
    that's why we're #2 now.

    Did anyone happen to see The Boston Globe's sketch of KO in their
    lead article on DECWORLD two weeks ago? Sort of Neptune-y, rising
    from the sea. . .if a line drawing can connote power, this one did
    (to me, at least).

    It was quite a clock. It was keyed to the station of the Pole Star,
