484.0. "Opening Up" by DEMOAX::OSBORN () Sun Sep 13 1987 20:46

    Just look as the offerings in this Fall's catalog for North Shore
    Community College in Beverly, Mass:

    Astrology 1
    The Edgar Cayce Legacy: Catalyst of the New Age
    Palmisry for Beginners
    The Psychic Arts: an Overview
    Psychic Development for Daily Life
    UFO's for Beginners
    Excursion Workshop:  An Inner Exploration

    Quite a lineup for a Public Community College, wouldn't you say?
    I guess my point is that with this ever-increasing public interest
    and awareness of psychic philosophies, comes a great deal of fear
    and anxiety (especially from people who have not explored these
    ideas before. I'm wondering if people in this notes file feel any
    more comfortable in discussing their ideas with others and what
    reactions they are receiving.

    I'm very new to the DEJAVU notes file, so am not sure whether it's
    the subject or the vehicle I'm still a little apprehensive about.

    I generally don't discuss many of these topics with too many people;
    consequently, when I do attempt to verbalize my ideas/views/beliefs
    the words sometimes come out as though I really don't know what I
    believe! But the bottom line is that I feel pretty comfortable
    in sharing with all of you what I believe.

    Where is this college located, and do they have any branches in
    NH?

    I agree that it seems to be a positive step, but I think
    it is part of an age-old cycle; we can't explain everything
    therefore, the answer(s) are based on something out of our
    perceptions/senses. That's why prophets have always had
    a following (sometimes with a negative impact--it killed them!)
    and I am not surprised with the popular "re-surgence" of
    psychic phenomena; e.g. Shirley Maclaine's books, "channels"
    shown (no pun intended!) on tv, and so on.

    The classes look like fun--has anyone taken any of them so far?

    This might belong under the Science heading, but I was reading the
    other night that when the scientists climb up the mountain and finally
    figure out the Ultimate truth, they are going to discover the
    theologians who've already been there for a few centuries.
