    I've already explained this elsewhere.  On the 17th, the Department
    of Public Works is tearing_up/closing_down Main Street in Maynard,
    from Nason Street to the McDonalds.  Doesn't anyone listen? :-P

    	I heard (but have not confirmed) that there is a "grand trine"
    to occur in planetary alignments over aug16-17.    This would
    involve three planets each 120 degrees apart in the sky.   I
    don't know which planets,  I suppose I could ask....
    	Trines are thought to be benificial in an astrological chart.

        Also as noted in .1, Frank Waters, in _The_Book_Of_The_Hopi_ passed
    on some Hopi prophecy about August 17.
	Also a certain old Mayan calendar ends abruptly on that day.
    
    	Some people seem to believe that the alignment may trigger an
    increase in spiritual influence.   Perhaps as if the resonance set
    up by the planets could be used as a carrier wave by extraterrestrials
    to communicate with us at this time.
    
    	I am taking a "wait and see" attitude.   But many groups are
    organizing vigils and dawn ceremonies for the sixteenth in 
    anticipation of *something*.

    The "grand trine"....
    
    In recent discussions with Marcia Butchart, I realized that this
    planetary placement may not have a whole lot to do with August 16th.
    If this grand trine were in a birth chart, it would have meaning,
    but because the "orbs of the aspects" are fairly wide its correlation
    to "events" is not significant.  I do think that the predominance
    of fire signs will add to the overall energy, and the four planets
    in Leo (Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars) will focus on heart energy.
    
    There are other interesting things happening astrologically, which
    I will leave to Marcia to share with you (she's been thinking about
    them for awhile!).

...but you could also read _The_Mayan_Factor:_Path_Beyond_Technology_ by
Jose Arguelles. I've read only excerpts, one who has read it says it's
difficult reading.

    According to the Mayan calendar (Tzolkin) our Mother Earth and all
    who are on it have been, for the past 5,000 some odd years, living
    thru 13 heavens of decreasing choice and 9 hells of increasing doom.
    This Old Fire ends on Aug. 16th.  The New Fire begins on the dawn
    of Aug. 17th.  This will be The Age of Flowers.
    
    This time is the return of Quetzalcoalt as the Mayans prophesied.
    You may be familiar with some Hopi prophesies about the time of
    purification.  
    
    At dawn (4-5 a.m.) Aug. 16th at the Arnold Auboretum, there will
    be a greeting of the sun, the last day of the old cycle.  At dawn
    on the 17th there will be celebrating the first day of the new cycle.
    
    This is a Macro-Micro Cosmic event, not a comcept, not a desire,
    not just an historic date.

    Since we are talking about dreams I thought I'd add mine (or was that
    one of the other August 16th notes?). 

    I dreamed I was in a hallway and noticed people lined up at a doorway.
    Around us people were watching tv and listening to radios. A somber
    attitude prevailed with people wondering what was going on. The overall
    feeling was that "it" had finally happened and that work had to be done
    to protect the people. 

    Underneath all was the whispered warning "Get out of America". 

    I asked around to find out what happened. I was told that they (the
    person telling me) knew but wasn't going to tell (those
    sons-of-witches!). People were lined up at this particular doorway in
    an effort to get into some program the government set up to help people
    get through hard times. 

    It seemed the bueurocrats were testing individuals to see how well
    people could barter. In other words did the individual know the
    intrinsic value of an item. Inside the large room where people had
    lined up outside was the testing center and apparently a newsroom where
    reporters were busy scurrying around in an effort to make the next
    newscast. Again a somber spirit prevailed with major changes upcoming. 

    Everyone was tested with the exception of myself. I was still wondering
    what the heck was happening. Trying to make a decision between getting
    tested and sent who know where (Chile?), I decided to try the test. I
    could always run out the door should they approach me with a straight
    jacket. 

    Since no one was left in the line I walked up to the doorman and said I
    wanted to take the test. He was suprised and wanted to know who I was.
    I gave him my name and he let me into the office (of New Age Testing?
    B^). I gave my name again to a fat buerocrat, who, seemed suprised but
    pleased to find my name on his list. I then commenced the test (on
    bartering). I failed miserably and everyone got angry with me. Then I
    was woke up to unseasonable cool weather for Colorado Springs. 

    The overall air of the dream was much different from my usual with a
    heaviness pervading the air. I guess the Age of Flowers is gonna' be a
    bummer for the untrainable, old age types like me. B^)

    It also means you're a Leo. Leos are innately skeptical. You might
    want to consider sleeping late on your birthday.
