433.0. "Ouija board question" by SKETCH::BASSETT (Jokers Wild) Fri Jul 31 1987 20:09

I just bought a Ouija board yesterday. Last night I tried to contact
someone but had no luck. Can anyone tell me if this is because
I tried it alone? Is it dangerous to do this alone? I am truely
a beleiver. Should I be doing something like burning candles?
When I tried, I had all the lights off - just the light from the
windows. I waited 5 minutes without taking my hand off the "puck".

Generally beginners (and many experienced people) find it hard to
use the Ouija board alone. At least two people should be using
it at once. Its handy and safer to have one other person writing
down the answers and who has the absolute authority to call things
quits if there is any sign of things "getting out of hand". Even
with two people on the planchette you may have to wait longer than
5 minutes to get really clear results.

Ouija generally works just fine in broad light as long as everyone
involved is comfortable with that (if you believe that the "spirits"
won't make an appearance in full light than you may block them from
    manifesting).

There are dangers to using the Ouija as discussed elsewhere in this
conference (do SEARCH "Ouija"). As long as you are aware of the
possibility of danger and treat it as reasonably serious (it can still
be fun, but not casual fun, just like, say, hang-gliding or mountain
climbing). Except that it is a reasonable precaution to have someone
relatively uninvolved ready to abort things if they get out of hand,
I know of no reason why one person working the Ouija board would be
more dangerous than more than one -- on the contrary, it is likely to
be safer because it is so very much less likely to work.
