and sociologist. Father Rizzo will show how to incorporate healing into our
daily lives and relationships. Practical demonstrations will be given.

This workshop is based on the Native American traditions - An introduction to
the medicine wheel and how we can apply ancient knowledge to our lives...
Learning to walk in balance and to heal ourselves and our Mother Earth. If
there is enough interest this will develop into an ongoing series including
herbal, crystals, musical and whatever. We can dance our dreams awake.
It will be given by Betsy Brown who is the New England area coordinator for
the Bear Tribe Medicine Society, an apprentice, and a long time student of
several native American Indian teachers. This workshop is also being held at

From the Mystery Macaroon:

I have a couple items that may be of interest to fellow Dejavuers.

1. There will be a "New Age Forum" at Mechanics Hall in Worcester
on July 16 & Sunday from 9am until 6pm. Various speakers will talk
on phrophecy, near-death, channeling messages, contacting the higher
self, apparitions, earth changes and the pole shift, and 2 demos
of esp and prediction. Admission is $190 at the door, $174 in advance.
You can register by sending name/address info. and $$ to the Aquarian
Fellowship Foundation, P.O. Box 226, West Upton, MA 01587, Attn:
New Age Forum or by credit card by calling (617)529-4248.

During the Forum there will also be an Exhibit Hall open to the general
public before 5pm on Saturday and after 9am on Sunday. The exhibit
will feature (at least, I think it will) tarot decks, books & mags,
crystals & gems, eguptian giftware, natural foods, holistic health
techniques, tapes, jewelry, greeting cards, Edgar Cayce remedies,
bach flower remedies, homeopathic remedies, radionic appliances, gem
elixers, natural cosmetics, computerized astrological profiles, and
a course in miracles. oh, and also the assocation for research and
enlightment.

2. For the next 6 Friday eves. (I think at 9pm, but I'm not certain)
channel 2 will have a series on mythology. I think (again, my memory
is foggy) that the series is based of tapes that were made of Joseph
Campbell before he died. (in this conference it sometimes seems necesarry
to be specific about such details ;-)

re: part 2 of Cindy's note:

The Joseph Campbell stuff is quite good (as seen in the PBS
series.) I managed to get a copy of video-tape of the series and
though I am not yet through it, it certainly merits attention (to
most of us, I think.) I want to thank whoever posted the note in
510 for calling my attention to it and therefore really noticing when
    someone else mentioned it.

Subj:	Mayan Travelogue - Slideshow & Discussion

Circa 900 A.D., a highly advanced and organized civilization with mammoth
cities, and millions of people virtually disappeared from Central America.
The disappearance of the Maya remains one of the Earth's great mysteries.
Jack Conaway recently returned from an archaeological dig in Belize. The
dig was conducted in several Mayan ceremonial caves in remote jungles of
that rugged country. Jack will be showing some slides and leading a
discussion of this fascinating Mayan puzzle. Bring your lunch.

    re: .8

I just read something in the newspaper this weekend about a
city found in the jungle in Guatemala that was complete with moat
and parapeets...and evidence of sudden construction of battlements,
etc. They said it appears that there had been a battle with some
other tribe...Mayans were heretofore considered peaceful, i.e, *not*
to be warriors, though they had human sacrifice. They have also
discovered vast underground caverns with evidence of human life...
so far they have not reached the end of them, either.
         Interesting stuff.

423.10A bit more on the MayaLEDS::BATESIl giocco della veritaTue Aug 22 1989 19:3528

The idea that the Maya were 'peaceful' as opposed to 'warlike' appears
to have been first refuted over 30 years ago, when archaeologists found
both ceramics and wall paintings depicting princes and warriors
fighting, subjugating, torturing and killing people of distinctly
different appearance (ie not Maya). Prior to that time, there was an
assumption that because the early Maya seem to have pretty much kept
to themselves, apparently not conquering their neighbours, they were
laid-back, peaceful folk. All this speculation was based on limited
evidence from ceramic styles, by the way.

In archaeology, one sees what one wants to see. (Surprise!)
It's probably as easy to infer that unfortified cities = peaceful people
as it is to postulate different means of attack and defense - that
a culture has defended itself effectively by mounting continual
offenses against neighbours. That's one theory forwarded about the Maya,
that seeks to account for their decline - that they wore themselves
    out,basically.

They are a fascinating civilisation, in any case. Astronomers and
myth-makers, they didn't use the wheel and yet had a far-flung
commercial network that brought them significant wealth and power.
Their ruling class, like that of Egypt, was composed of priest-kings
who were ultimately so inbred that even the infusion of new blood
couldn't save them. Their shamanistic traditions persist today in the
    mountains of Honduras...

This is a non-profit event with proceeds going to support the environment,
the homeless, the hungry, the abused, AIDS, and world peace. This is the
first year that this festival has been presented, and it was organized
by Jeanne Robinson, who some DejaVu noters may recognize as the channeler
for "AZ". The festival is not expected to be large, but it certainly
presents an unusual mix of various artists, and it may be a lot of fun!

My wife Lisa and I will be there with some recent pottery creations (we
opened the last kiln load just this morning) so stop by and say hello if
you decide to attend. It will be easy to spot Lisa's recent works ...
just look for the glaze designs of crazy women with wild hair (and you
decide if they are a form of self-portrait or not ;-} ).

This may be of interest to people here (from the flier):

Ahlara Lynne & Earth Star Magazine present James Redfield, author of "The
Celestine Prophesy" giving a lecture on "Emerging Spiritual Common Sense"
February 26, 1994, 7:00-10:00PM. $25/person at the New England Life Hall,
225 Carendon St, Boston. For info and tickets, call (617) 826-7090. ($5
validated parking across the street at Kinney's on Boylston Street.)

The Celestine Prophesy was released in late spring, 1993. Since then its
growth has been nothing less than phenomenal. Spreading almost entirely
by word-of-mouth, this book has gained almost instant popularity
everywhere it has been introduced, especially in spiritually-oriented
networks, growth-type bookstores, and Unity churches. The reason for the
book's success seems to be its timely message. Set in the forests of
Peru, the reader is drawn into an adventurous search for an ancient
manuscript, a manusctipt that contians 9 key insights the human race is
predicted to grasp as we move toward a completely spiritual culture on
     Earth.

The celestine Prophecy reveals how to maximize the mysterious,
synchronistic occurrences that lead one farther in life; how to clear old
repeated patterns and discover a higher mission and purpose; and how to
see Earth's spiritual transformation in the Nineties as a process not
     just envisioned... but actually lived.

423.14"Buddhism In America" Conference, Jan. 1997FOUNDR::OUIMETTEZat was Zen, Dis is Dao...Tue Sep 03 1996 21:3226

    	Hello all,

There is a "Buddhism in America" 3-day conference in Boston in January,
1997. There are numerous workshops being held over the course of the 3
days, with people like John Cabot-Zinn, Joan Halifax, Toni Packer,
Bernard Tetsugen Glassman Roshi, John Stevens, Lama Surya Das, and many
others from different schools of Buddhism. Zen schools are very
heavily represented in the workshops and Keynote speakers, as is
    Tibetan Buddhism.

I've received the brochure, and the workshops look very
interesting... But I'm a tightwad, and the $300 for two days (The
Friday before is all-day "pre-conference" workshops, an additional $95
if you want to attend one) is a bit rich for my blood. But if you can
afford it, it looks like it will be a great time, with the opportunity to
spend time with some of the "biggest names" in Buddhism and
contemplative practices today (O.K., neither the Dalai Lama nor Richard
Gere are listed... :^) in one place that I've ever seen.

For info, call 1-888-A BUDDHA. I'm not affiliated with this event
in any way, just thought some might find it interesting, and close to
    home.
