408.0. "Crystal Skull Speaks" by GRECO::GADDIS () Wed Jul 15 1987 13:36

I have just finished reading a book "The Crystal Skull Speaks". The book is
about a crystal skull that was found in a Mayan temple in Belize and is
ability to communicate with a medium.

Does anyone know about the skull or its purpose/abilities?

Regards,
peace

There was a two-part article on the crystal skull (there actually
are two) that was published in _Fate_ about three years ago. Most
of the legends about it appear to be exaggerations. The most
fascinating thing about the skull is the way it was fabricated,
    from the various accounts.

If you're near a good library, possibly they have back issues of
    _Fate_.

There is one in a museum in London that has created a problem.
The cleaning people refuse to enter the room where the exhibit is
kept at night to clean. .....(or,... is this another one of those
    rumors Steve_;-)

I have also read some strange things about them, not in that particular
book though. Actually, I wouldn't mind having one on my mantle
    ....(nice conversation piece).

I can recall being scared out of my wits after reading in _Ripley's
Believe It Or Forget It_ about a similar skull which was "cursed"
and had caused the deaths of all who had owned it...there was a
great picture of it in the book that haunted my dreams for weeks!

As I mentioned in 307.12, there were, as of three years ago,
9 of these large skulls found (along with numerous small ones.)
I attended a lecture and slide show on them at the College of Marin
and I have forgotten who the guest speaker (and apparent authority)
was. In any case, when Lazaris spoke about crystals many months
later, I was disappointed by the lack of mention of the skulls.
The slides did appear to depict a great deal of activity occuring
within the skulls (such as people moving, mountains, vegetation,
strange animals, etc.) It was a very interesting presentation
complete with all the "Indiana Jones"-type of story to go along
with them. As I mentioned earlier in 307, these skulls are all
in private hands or in museums...in general, they are not available
    to the public.

WHEN I WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, I WENT TO ROSWELL NEW MEXICO
TO VISIT RELATIVES. THE NEXT DOOR NEIGBOR WAS AN INDIAN. (WHAT TYPE
I DONT RECALL). IN ANY CASE HE WAS A COLLECTOR OF INDIAN ARTIFACTS,
AND HAD QUITE A BIT THROUGHOUT HIS HOUSE.
ONE OF THOSE ITEMS WAS A LARGE QUARTZ STONE ABOUT HALF THE SIZE
OF A VOLLEY BALL WITH A FACE CARVED IN ONE SIDE OF IT. HE SAID
THAT HE HAD FOUND IT IN MEXICO WHILE ON A DIG. HE ALSO SAID THAT
ONCE HE UNCOVERED IT AND SHOWED IT TO THE INDIAN GUIDE THAT HAD
TAKEN HIM THERE, THAT HIS GUIDE IMEDIATELY FLED.

    Re .5:

I've seen photos of two of the most famous crystal skulls, and they
look very much like human skulls, complete with jawbone, teeth,
etc. Far more than just a face, of you will. They were/are
    adult-skull scale.

I have seen pictures of the crystal skull(s). They are certainly
beautiful works of art (I wouldn't mind owning one!).

I doubt that they were intended to be anything more.

Go back and read what I wrote. I said I DOUBT that they were intended
as anything more than art objects. (God forbid that in 500 years
my paperweight should be regarded as a sacred object).

Interesting. There's a biographical piece on Willaru in Steven
McFadden's book, "Profiles Of Wisdom", fyi.

When I was in a weekend workshop with Hunbatz Men, a Mayan shaman,
(and also in Steve's book), he mentioned that there is a place for
a crystal skull at the top of the Chichen-Itza pyramid. Given that
the snake that goes up the side of the pyramid in the form of a shadow
on the equinoxes that represents kundalini, this made a lot of sense.
(Kundalini travels up from the base of the spine to the crown of the
    head.)
