296.0. "random reading" by GNUVAX::TUCKER (Peace of mind...) Fri Jan 30 1987 15:59

Isn't there a technical term for opening a book at a random page
    and finding guidance there?

One method of doing it is to choose a book that "feels right."
Place it on a table, and, with your eyes closed, open it at random.
Then, still with your eyes closed, move your index finger onto
whjichever page is exposed, Then open your eyes and see what you
    read.

While I'm writing, I'll do a short one here using _Computer
Engineering_ by Bell, Mudge, amd McNamera. I'll choose word by
word, hoping for guidance for you.

"That selector move end structure memory." Mean anything to you?

The other way is to do the same sort of thing, looking for a phrasse
or paragraph. Used a lot with Bibles.

A third way is by selecting several books and alternating words/phrases
using the above techniques between books.
