278.0. "Favorite perodicals" by MSTIME::RABKE () Wed Jan 07 1987 21:13

    	Maybe this topic has been covered before so excuse please, but
    I couldn't find it.

    What are some of your favorite periodical (magazines, newsletters,
    etc.) in the metaphysical field?

    I find Psychic Guide moderately useful and somewhat amusing. Locally,
    the Rocky Mountain Pagan Journal (RaMPaJ) is excellent but limited
    largely to Pagan issues. The Llewellyn Guide is more of an advertising
    supplement than a metaphysical journal, but if you can't find it
    there, it may be very difficult to find anywhere.

    FATE is good. The current editors have enough broadmindedness to
    look at a lot of issues, and sufficient judgement not to be
    indiscriminately credulous. A very nice balance, over time.

    Metapsychology magazine may be of interest if you're curious
    about "channeled information". See note 213.0 for more details.

    Interesting sounding stuff here. Could respondants to this note
    try to include sources (publishers address or the name/location
    of that 'one store' where they find it) for these periodicals?

     				Thanks,

    Many newsstands carry FATE (though oddly, few in downtown Boston).
     You could always subscribe, I suppose...

This is not a direct response to the question, but it may be useful.
Virtually any library will have in its reference section Ulrich's
International Periodicals Directory. A large number of periodicals
are listed there including cost, frequency of publication, publishing
organization, address, etc.. The periodicals are arranged alphabetically
by subject, and the most relevant subject heading is "Parapsychology and
Occultism". A randomly chosen example from the 1984 edition:

A HANDY TIP -- many magazines and journals will send a free sample (not
necessarily the current issue) if asked politely in writing.

278.8Circle is having problemsSSDEVO::YOUNGERSure. Will that be cash or charge?Thu Jan 08 1987 21:2119
    RE .2  (Paul)

    Yes, Circle is still publishing a Pagan journal, which is of interest
    as far as national Pagan interests.

    However, they have not, as yet, sent me the *fall* issue, or the
    winter issue. This is because they are heavily fighting a legal
    battle. The surface issue is zoning, but more deeply, it was brought
    on by a group of mis-informed Christians who believed they were
    Satanic and wanted them out of the area.

    They are very appreciative of money, energy, prayers, psychically
    charged items, such as crystals, and letters from clergy - especially
    Lutherans - explaining that there *is* a big difference between
    Wicca and Satanism, as well as letters of support from "ordinary"
    people.

    As you can see, I have only gotten through "C". There are dozens
    of others. The above list is largely copied out of Margot Adler's
    wonderful book, _Drawing_Down_The_Moon_, which is currently out
    of print (although a revision is in the works). If you would like
    more, I would be happy to start with "D" as soon as another request
    comes in. Maybe this would be best dealt with through Mail.

    circle is still alive and relatively well. On my last trip home,
    (to Wisconsin) I was informed that the zoning problems are pretty
    much settled and they are working towards the next issue of CNN.
    This might take a while to put out and they still can use all the
    support you might care to offer. If you're real interested I have
    a current phone #. They did put together a nice solctice celebration
    (which i missed by 1 day).

    When was your last trip home? Recently I presume. I got an update
    from them in early December, and they were still indicating that
    they needed help.

278.13Circle Sanctuary still needs Help!SSDEVO::YOUNGEROxygen starvation does strange things...Tue Jan 13 1987 01:4421
    A trip to Denver yesterday brought us in contact with friends who
    have been in touch with Circle as recently as Yule. The responses
    to them from Selena indicate that, once again, Circle thought that
    the troubles were over after the next zoning board meeting, and
    that, once again, they were turned down.

    On top of this, there have been two "poison pen" letters about the
    situation at Circle Sanctuary, one unsigned by "Moonrose", another
    unsigned by "Moonbeam". If there is any truth in the "Moonrose"
    letter, I couldn't find it.  Both letters were postmarked in Denver;
    there is a Moonrose in Denver, but she almost never writes, has
    special stationery, and always signs her name. I'm telling you
    this so that you will be alerted to the problem -- this campaign
    is not only attacking Ccle, but also the other pagans whose names
    they use but do not sign.

    Circle still is having problems, and they are real ones - legal
    and financial. They need your help in whatever way you can offer
    it. Don't believe it's over until Selena tells you it's over!

    One which I like is;

    	Shaman's Drum
    	Box 2636
    	Berkeley, CA 94702

    Shaman's Drum is a quarterly, and costs $15.00/yr. I have also seen it
    at the Skylight bookstore in Harvard Sq. They describe themself as a
    journal of experiential shamanism. They are associated with a group
    called the Cross-Cultural Shamanism Network.

    Shaman's Drum has articles and interviews with shamans from Alaska and
    Siberia to South America and Australia.
