261.0. "Where in New England?" by FLOWER::JASNIEWSKI () Wed Dec 10 1986 14:04

While scanning thru the directory I noticed someone was interested
in power spots in, well, Colorado. What about good old New England??

One reply mentioned a place in the white mountains of NH - a mountain
made of quartz, which was frequently struck by lightning; "people's
hair stood on end" ect. I would say that this place would certainly
be regarded as a power spot by Native Americans anyway-

Quartz is a piezo-material which means that under stress, an
electric field is produced. Take a mountain of quartz, place it
under geophysical stress and its no wonder people's hair stood on
end. I wonder if the lightning was striking the mountain, or if
the lightning was eminating from it?

A person immersed in an electric field of this intensity would
likely experience an altered state of consciousness, I think.

Various types of medical equipment use very powerful electromagnets,
e.g. NMR scanning and the like. Very often these devices are used
to scan brain tissue. Need the electric field be more randomized
    for ASCs to occur?

I've seen a picture of a woman putting her arm within (what was
then) a gap of an extremely large electromagnet. Her head was not
far away. She had a smile on her face. The implication I got at
the time was that she was demonstrating no harm was coming to her.
Perhaps I hadn't considered some of the more interesting alternatives,
but then I guess I usually go with (the elsewhere mentioned) Occam's
    razor.
