212.0. "What time is it?" by AKOV68::FRETTS () Fri Sep 26 1986 17:34

For quite awhile now I've been having strange experiences with
"time". It can happen at any "time" of the day. I'll wake up
in the middle of the night and look at the clock. It will be
2:22 or 3:33 or 1:11. I'll be walking down the hall at work
and look up at the clock - sure enough 10:10 or 11:11 or
whatever. The best one was when the clock here at work was
running fast by about 15 minutes. I looked at my watch - it
was about 5 past 2 - since the caf opens at 2, I went to get
some tea, walked down the hall, looked at the clock -
** 2:22 **. This has also happened when I am with other
people and have pointed it out to them. It makes some
    people very nervous!

Any ideas as to what is going on?

Many people (and animals, for that matter) have very accutate "internal
clocks." This clock is "reset" if necessary throughout the day
by reference to external time standards like clocks (or in some
cases, sunrise/set). This tends to be an unconscious ability.

I have some of that myself, and it is rare that I have to use an
    alarm clock.

    i) internal clock: I seem to be blessed - or cursed - by this. Whatever
time I set an alarm clock to, and no matter how many time zones I cross
in traveling, I seem to wake up a few minutes before the alarm goes off
    9 days out of 10.

ii) noticing time. Whilst I cannot say why you notice the significant
times in every case, it is possible that when walking past wall clocks
that you notice the time "subliminally" and only consiously look when
the time glimpsed subconsciously is "significant".

I always have the *exact* thing happen to me and I've never
been able to figure it out. Most of the time it happens at 11:11
pm. May be it is an internal clock . It sure does feel strange.

I'll think about looking at the clock to see what time it is
and a split second before I look I know that the time is going to
be 11:11. This has gone on for years and I've gotton to the point
where I just kind of snicker when it happens but like I said I
still don't know how to explain it. There's just something special
    about *that* time.

    Re: .3 (ii)

I believe this is the explanation for what .0 is experiencing. To
give it a term, it's called the Reticular Activating System
(compliments of The Pacific Institute). It is similar to what happens
when you buy a new car and suddenly you notice how many more of
that type of car seems to be on the road. You always saw that car
type, but you never noticed that you saw them.

You are seeing the clock at other times, but not noticing the other
times, because they are not significant. You are not even aware
that you don't notice. It's not paranormal, we all do it.

212.6But why?AKOV68::FRETTSMon Sep 29 1986 12:5210
    re .5

I can accept this theory as the probable reason for these time
incidents, however why and how does this theory even occur?
And it works the same way whether you are asleep or awake?

If one subscribed to the theory that we create our own
reality then your experiences make perfect sense. By
'creating our own reality' I'm talking about our belief
system effecting our thoughts which in turn effect our
electomagnetic bodies, as well as the others, and bring
to us what we believe "should" be.

"Time is what keeps everything from happening at once."

Since your subconscious is doing the R.A.S. bit, maybe it will choose
this coincidental numerical time for you to die. When your time
comes, of course. Many, many, many years from now. *Way* beyond
the Aver. Life Expect., I'm sure.

Waking up before the alarm isn't rare; since you hate the alarm
to wake you up your sub. beats it to it. Mine does, unless I'm
very tired. BTW, the first time I pulled KP I was awakened by
a shaking bunk (nothing paranormal here; its dangerous to wake a
sleeping man by shaking his shoulder) at 4AM. For almost 6 mo.
after that I'd wake up a few minutes before 4AM *every day*.

31 October	-	ominous date ! could that have been the reason
    for your time-warp ?

I have a similar 'problem' - with me its 7:07 usually
am - sometimes pm. It got so unnerving that I even changed the alarm time
on my alarm clock from 7:10 to 7:05, hoping that I would wake up
at 7:00 sharp & be in the bathroom when 7:07 rolls around. It still
happens, but not as frequently. I often wake up earlier than 7:00
get showered & back to the bedroom when 7:07 rolls around.

BTW - I'm a pilot & the Boeing 707 is an airliner. Any significance?

Your reply missed 7:07 by a minute (19:08=7:08)! I bet you started
    writing it at 7:07.

I haven't been noticing this happening in my experience for awhile,
but I always enjoyed the feeling of "being right in the moment"
    when it did.
