127.0. "How about a Gathering?" by WFOVX3::ESCARCIDA () Mon May 05 1986 20:20

Just had a thought..... How about a Dejavu Gathering consisting
of all readers and contributers to this notes file?
I realize we are all scattered but in spite of the proximity would
any of you be interested in gathering in one central location?
What say you? Any ideas or feelings on this?

Personally, I would like to meet my brothers and sisters from whom I
    have learned so much.

Within reason a Gathering would be a neat idea, if we could pull
it off. However, it would better be something practical: "Notesr
Lunches" are okay, but with only an hour and so many people to meet....

Of course those who couldn't attend in the flesh could come
    Astrally.... :-)

I think that this is a great idea. I agree with Steve that it would
be difficult to meet everyone at a lunchtime gathering. How about
some Saturday or Sunday with a BBQ? It could be pot-luck and I'd
be willing to use my house. That is for those in the New England
area (I'd also have to check with my wife for when would be a good
    day). Interested?

127.4Listing of Gatherings for 1986HYSTER::HITCHCOCKChuck HitchcockMon May 05 1986 21:1149
Well, speaking of gatherings! Meeting some people who contribute
to Dejavu would be fun, but many of us are spread out. Since
much of this material is relected in many of the New Age/Earth
Religion/Neo-Pagan Movement, there are many, many gatherings
during the warmer season that draws many people interested in
these topics.

I'll list some of the ones I know of here, and if you want the
address of the promoters for a particular event, send mail to me
directly. I'm going to several of the ones mentioned below, so
if anyone is interested, we can meet!

I think a BBQ is a terrific idea. Anyone who isn't self conscious about
it can bring any "occult" equipment (Ouija boards, Tarot decks, crystals,
horoscope preparation material, or whatever) which they think people would
be interested in. I'll certainly bring my Tarot cards. If you don't use
equipment, so much the better.

I'm looking forward to this.

Now I guess we have to get organized. I still offer my home for
the location. I live in Mont Vernon, NH. If that's OK with everyone
then we have to come up with a date that's good for everyone. Does
anyone have any suggestions on how we should go about choosing a
date? If anyone prefers not to respond here, please send me mail

Depending on what's convenient for people, I also offer the use
of my house. I live in Littleton, Mass., which is right near the
intersection of routes 2 and 495. If Mt. Vernon, NH is more
suitable that's fine with me too. Where I live is very secluded
(situated on a 100 acres of wooded land) with wooded trails
around (including a beach area on a lake).

I suggest Saturday, May 31 or Sunday, June 1. It should be nice
weather by then.

OK, now we're getting somewhere. We have two possible locations,
two possible dates and some people who want to come. I'm going
to start a list of those interested. If you have a preference for
location or date, please include that with your response. Chuck's
suggestion of May 31 or June 1 are good for me. Remember you can
also respond via MAIL if you want to come.

I'd like to come, too. Littleton would be easier, if I have to
choose. Once things are settled a bit and once I'm _certain_ I
can make it, let's see whether we can sort of divide the goodies
to be brought (salads, sodas, etc.).

Symbolically, Sunday's better than Saturday; practically, either's
    okay.

Either place is OK with me but I have a slight problem with the
date. I will be in New Mexico and California the last two weeks
in May and the first week of June but clear after that. :-(
If that date is suitable to everyone else then so be it I'll be
there in spirit maybe even astral travel my way :-).

By the way, I don't see any reason why we can't bring our spouses.

could make Littleton if need be. Not sure about the dates, though, and
will have to check.

RE: "Has this been done in another file?"

Well, there's Netparty which exists just to co-ordinate gatherings of
general noters. Also, the Flying notefile has frequent gatherings of
participants.

It looks as though the balance of interest is in favor of having
it at my house in Littleton, Mass. It's been my experience from
other gatherings to plan for Saturday and have it Sunday in case
of rain. Although I know everyone can't make it on this weekend,
the majority seem to favor the the end of May time over the June
7/8 time. So...

Gathering to be held on Saturday, May 31 with rain date for
Sunday June 1.

It'll be far easier to navigate you to my house with a printed
map and directions, so those who are attending should send your
postal address to me at HYSTER::HITCHCOCK and I'll mail you them.

An additional bonus I hadn't mentioned before was that we have a
Sioux Indian from Oregon staying with us who has been giving
teachings in the traditional rites of native American
purification using the sweat lodge, so if you haven't had the
opportunity to see one, it'll still be erected at that time.

Hey, we're really doing it! We could dial-up if people in other
parts of the country (world?) from my house and have an online
get-together if we wanted.

I would suggest that everyone bring their own meat (or main dish for
those of us who are vegetarians) and a dish and drinks to share. Are we
doing outdoor cooking, i.e. grills, etc? If so, I think I can bring a
large Weber grill. I'll check and see what condition it is in.

If we're going to do this, I need to know who is *really* going

directions to my house.

Send VAXmail to HYSTER::HITCHCOCK today!

This'll be a lot of fun if enough people make it happen.

I think it is a good idea for everyone to bring their own meat or

we'll be doing outdoor cooking, so if you have a grill let Chuck

Are there any others who will be bringing children? My wife
and I have two little ones who'll be coming with us. I figure we
could coordinate some parental supervision shifts, if there will
be others with little people. Mine are a two and a half year old
girl, and a nearly four year old boy who like to socialize. Anyone
who is interested can send me mail.

Also, I'll be bringing sundry percussion instruments, and invite
anyone who wants to do the same. Music is my favorite kind of
spiritualism... at least the easiest to dance to. I'll have Conga,
Bongos, and Tabla, plus several little things like wood blocks,
cowbells, etc. I'd like to lead some chanting, if people are into
it. And if there are guitars or other melody instruments, I love
    to Jam with them, too.

Re: .28
I want to add my comments to Ed's note on children here, so that
others can respond as well.

My feelings on children (especially young ones) are that they're
OK at an adult gathering =>so long as the parents who bring them
take complete responsibility for them<= either by making sure
they look after them themselves or coordinating with others who
volunteer beforehand to look after them for periods of time.

Additional comments and (hopefully) volunteers should speak up
here.

an incredible time!
